Genuine question for Tory voters

Really not asking this in a goady way- I just want to know if anyone has changed their mind over the last few days of TM refusing to do any interviews/debates. I don't think Rudd did anything positive for the Conservative party with her appearance on the debate the other night and what I have seen of TM, she seems like she might actually be having a bit of a breakdown?

OP posts:
MotherOfBleach · 03/06/2017 00:11

Ah yes, 2010, two years after the global recession ended....

Fontella · 03/06/2017 00:15

I miss the middle .... where the hell did the middle go

The middle turned out to be a major disappointment.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 03/06/2017 00:16

I liked the centre as well effic

I miss it too Sad

Labour and tory have gone so far left and right they are going to meet up in the middle

citroenpresse · 03/06/2017 00:16

NHS underfunded in relation to demand, tax allowances doubled, your point is....?

MotherOfBleach · 03/06/2017 00:16

So, who should pay more, Effic?

Someone has to. If not the top 5% then who?

Also, I never said that uncontrolled immigration wasn't a problem. Nor has Corbyn from what I've seen/read.

He refused to put a number to it, which given that the Tories have failed to meet their immigration targets since being in Government, I think is sensible.

Fontella · 03/06/2017 00:24

He refused to put a number to it, which given that the Tories have failed to meet their immigration targets ....

How can anyone meet their immigration targets while we remain a member of the EU. We haveno control over our borders. That's what 'free movement' is.

Any EU citizen can come and live here. They don't have to have a trade, a job, there is no points criteria as applies to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA and so on. Hundreds of millions of EU citizens can come here and there is Jack Shit that any British Government - left or right - can do about it, all the time we remain a member of the EU.

Effic · 03/06/2017 00:27

Again, apologies but I don't believe someone has to. I believe that the demands made and expectations of what the state provides have to be reduced. Benefots were supposed to be a temporary prop; the NHS to ensure basic life saving care - we have moved so far away from this stand point and although it's a beautiful nivrana - it's unaffordable.

Headofthehive55 · 03/06/2017 00:29

I'd like something more in the middle?

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 03/06/2017 00:29

Mother it was an election year, hence the comparison.

MotherOfBleach · 03/06/2017 00:31

So under this proposal that only basic life saving care is provided by the NHS, who helps the self harming, bulimic teenagers?

While the parents are expected to help them alone, which is how the situation is currently for us, then how can benefits be a temporary prop?

I can either provide support for my child or work outside the home and not be there when my child is taking a razor to her wrists. I can't do both. There's only one of me.

Effic · 03/06/2017 00:32

Head of the .....
me too. And I liked the middle. I can't understand why the Libdems took such a hammering for one fairly minor imo issue. So what if adults are asked to pay back university education costs - surely being educated for free for 18 years is enough!!
I liked the middle ...... Sad

Our rent is stupidly high (over £700 pcm for a 2 bed). Which we could comfortably afford when DP was able to work. He had a mental health crisis when I was pregnant with our second child and days like today he now genuinely struggles to get out of bed/ eat.

Now I would love us to move closer to my family for the support and because it's a much cheaper area. We could save over £200 per month on rent easily. But how are we meant to get the agency fees, deposit and first months rent together that would allow for that? We are saving (a pittance a month) but it will take a long time and meanwhile we are sinking.

My DP didn't ask to have a breakdown. It's not as simple as move to cheaper housing when you have nothing. It takes money to move.

LottieandMia · 03/06/2017 00:38

Can anyone who votes Tory and has a child in state school explain to me why?

ajandjjmum · 03/06/2017 00:41

I heard a radio discussion yesterday. One woman was voting Labour because the education funding to her school meant that they would lose a couple of teachers. Another woman was voting Conservative because her children's school were receive more funding, putting them on a fairer level with other schools.

I understood that it is not a case of school funding being cut, but simply redistributed to give fairness to all.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 03/06/2017 00:43

Lottie you do realize that people are free to vote for whoever they choose, right? I expect my DS will go to state school although he is too young at the moment. I vote Tory. I volunteer at a hospice. I have a disability. What is your point?

scaryteacher · 03/06/2017 00:50

I taught under Labour in rural Cornwall. We had a really rock bottom spend per pupil, whereas urban and especially metropolitan areas got so much more. It's about time there was a redistribution.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/06/2017 00:52

No difference to me at all
The problems I am having is tallying not being able to vote for labour
Not liking most of the conservative manifesto
And knowing that my very heartfelt linden vote is wasted.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/06/2017 00:53

Linden was an auto correct for lib dem

Effic · 03/06/2017 01:06

Perhaps we need a new party .... like Macron has managed in France.
The slightly squishy but still economically viable middly party...

Twillow · 03/06/2017 01:23

The rest of the EU didn't want brexit. May keeps saying she will get the best deal, but she's apparently despised in Europe for her attitude that the EU will want to bend over backwards to help us leave with a great package. I'm wondering whether someone else - and obviously the only alternative is Corbyn - will have the distance from the referendum to build bridges for us.

caroldecker · 03/06/2017 01:27

Mother Expand your search by 15 miles, you get 116 properties. 10 miles gets you 88. So plenty of places to live if you choose to do so.

MotherOfBleach · 03/06/2017 01:35

Right, and how do I get the money to move to these places?

Deposit, moving vans, month's rent in advance, letting agent fees etc...

I can afford my rent, btw. Cheaper housing would not help my situation. I was just pointing out that £300 pcm, 2 bed houses are few and far between unless you plan to move to the most deprived areas where jobs are fewer and further between.

Moving away from a job to net cheaper rent in an area of high unemployment helps no-one.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 03/06/2017 01:43

Returning to the original question. I'm a floating voter. I do rather like Jeremy Corbyn. I feel Teresa May is out of touch with the general populus and am really hacked off with her views on fox hunting. However, political parties aside, I'll be voting for the person I feel will best serve the UK when dealing with the EU negotiations and Trump. To have as a friend, I'd choose Jeremy, for Prime Minister, it's Teresa May (but I wouldn't want to break bread with her).

piapiapiano · 03/06/2017 05:51

I abhor fox hunting and would hate to see it returned, however I was listening to a discussion where one farmer said she'd lost 50 lambs to foxes. The argument for fox hunting seemed to be that hunting produced a kill where as shooting often left a wounded animal and therefore the hunt was considered more humane. I'm an animal lover and hate the thought of both, but I do think that it is the governments duty to consider the views of all, no matter how unpalatable they are.
Returning to the original question no they haven't changed my mind at all, it was all a bit Jeremy kyle for my liking although i thought Amber Rudd did well.

Beachcomber · 03/06/2017 07:10

It's incredible how all those ominously saying "I remember the 3 day week" have forgotten that it happened under a CONSERVATIVE government.

I'm no Tory fan but even I wouldn't hold it against them too much as it was a result of complicated economic circumstances.

Holding it against Labour is just bizarre (or misinformed).
