Corbyn, am I the only one?

Seriously, I think I'm the only one who thinks this guy is a massive kn*b and shouldn't be let anywhere near parliament. He seems hell-bent on destroying our countries economy and penalising anyone who works hard and ends up making a decent wage. His policies seem to want everyone to stay on one level. He's just chucking out policies that make no sense economically and otherwise.

And just to clarify I am a single mum, 24 year old student at university full time and I still think he's a complete idiot with ridiculous policies that want to drag everyone down to the same level rather than encouraging people to work their way up.

Increase Tax and companies will find a loop hole or cleaver scheme to dodge it!! I am torn between lib Dems and tory... heck I would vote SNP if they represented London.. they were convincing in the debate.

ArseOfInfinity · 31/05/2017 22:48

I am torn between lib Dems and tory

I'm interested.

How the hell did your two choices get narrowed down to that? Because as far as I can see their policies couldn't be more polar opposite?

Have you watched any if the debates?

MummyShah369 · 31/05/2017 22:54

@arseofinfinity simple reasoning I would rather avoid brexit so lib Dems but if brexit is going to happen Torys as we need a majority

You do realise Amber Rudd's father died 2 days ago? I don't think calling her a c* is acceptable.

Jakeyboy1 · 31/05/2017 22:58

He's a lunatic. When he first came in I thought I could see why traditional labour voters may like him but I don't see that now either! No substance and bumbles like an angry old man. Also keeps trying to paint himself as part of the peace process in NI yet Tony Blair let him nowhere near it, I think you'll find that was Mo Mowlam love now piss off!

Chchchchangeabout · 31/05/2017 23:03

Totally agree OP. I hate that I agree because I'd love to vote Labour.

ArseOfInfinity · 31/05/2017 23:04

MummyShah369

So you want to avoid brexit? So you think brexit will be bad?

So you go from no brexit to voting for a party that will happily leave with no deal (that's the industry in this country fucked and say bye bye to money), have already pissed off the eu, won't protect the rights of eu migrants and their leader won't even show up for a debate but apparently could be all difficult and tough for the eu ( sure they are shaking in their boots, she couldn't even face to face debate for her own election)

And you, who are against leaving the eu, will choose them ^ over a party that at least has guaranteed free tariff access for trade with the eu and guaranteed the rights of eu migrants. (Labour, we all know lib dem won't get it, it's a two horse race this time that will determine exactly how we brexit)

How the hell is conservative brexit better than a labour one?

MummyShah369 · 31/05/2017 23:05

Also is the action of Jeremy Corbyn not considered as a last minute u turn?? I wish lib Dems were a stronger party...

Killdora · 31/05/2017 23:06

their is no left and right any more, and in some respects Conservatives are being more left wing and in some respects Labour more right wing -- and no I cba to explain that because its quite long and I have spent a long time on other threads explaining why

You can't be asked to explain it because it's complete horse shit. Grin

MummyShah369 · 31/05/2017 23:11

@arseofinfinity you are right it that my preference is no brexit who want to pay a big bill... at the end of the day which ever party come into power will have a hard negotiation... and for this you need a team behind you.

In my view Torys have a stronger team.. but if SNP represented UK I would go with their team.

cdtaylornats · 31/05/2017 23:21

but if SNP represented UK I would go with their team

I take it you are living in England and don't see the mess the SNP have made in Scotland.

Sturgeon has taken a year to go from most popular leader to least popular.

cdtaylornats · 31/05/2017 23:23

Brexit is going to happen - there is no mechanism for reversing article 50.

JimmyGrimble · 31/05/2017 23:24

*If you enforce high pay you get lots of well paying jobs until they are automated out of existence.

Remember secretaries? Typing pools? They got expensive so they went.

Postcapitalist is post innovatio. If you can get a living wage for doing little with no responsibility and no risk why would you start a business for little reward?

You can prepare for lots of retail shops closing as well - vast Amazon warehouses with automated picking and packing will replace the high street. I hear you cry we will make them pay taxes - you can until they're the only option - then the companies will squeeze back.

Banks are already going, the town I live in had 4 banks in January, by the end of June it will have 1. We had a supermarket, now we don't.*
How do you automate a hairdresser, a waitress, a builder etc out of existence? Because these are the kinds of jobs that are paying minimum wage. If they were paid more they would be spending more and would pay more tax. I agree with you about banks. We used to have four banks. Now we have none. I don't think you can blame Labour for that as they're not in government?

pieceofpurplesky · 31/05/2017 23:27

Now I know what Therese was up to tonight!

JimmyGrimble · 31/05/2017 23:29

But the reason you feel alone is because Conservative is still seen as right-wing which publically is seen as bad - as opposed to left being good
If you vote Tory you are voting for more austerity, higher taxes (they haven't said they won't increase taxes, remember), privatisation in the NHS, cuts in education (which will mean fewer teachers and possibly no TA's - it's already happening) and an attack on the oldest, poorest and weakest in our society.

Ankleswingers · 31/05/2017 23:29

This is MN and incredibly left wing. You'll
never get anything other than how wonderful Corbyn , Abbott and co are on this site.

It's quite terrifying really to think he could be PM and Abbott as Home Secretary.

Corporation tax revenues have been going up year on year since they reduced the %. Basically the companies are issuing the money they would have paid in tax to grow and recruit, increasing profits. So the percentage is smaller but the actual sum of money is so actually that equals more tax revenue. Hence the growing economy and more jobs.

What happens if you now out the corp tax up, no surprises, the reverse. So less investment, less jobs, shrinking profit. So now you have a greater percentage of a smalller amount of money and less actually going into the tax coffers.

This isn't a theory it's what's been happening. So please stop calling out the corp tax will fix things, raising it will have the reverse effect and create a deficit in tax gathered.

Real economics beat socialist made up capitalism bashing every time.

MummyShah369 · 31/05/2017 23:35

Interesting bit coin.. and today tesco did their first automated delivery in london... if wages are high machinery replaces places like India still use labour for washing etc... but they are largely underpaid

JimmyGrimble · 31/05/2017 23:40

Ha ha ha! The Tories? Progressive? That's funny.
The Labour position on Brexit is that they will uphold the democratic will of the people. The vote was to leave therefore we will leave. JC wants to negotiate our leaving and get a trade deal that includes access to European markets so that we can buy and sell our goods. TM says 'No deal is better than a bad deal' - well that depends on whether you think that it's worth losing £25 to £36bn a year because that's what 'no deal' looks like. I would much rather Kier Starmer led negotiations than Theresa May. TM hectors and harangues. That is not going to play well.

MummyShah369 · 31/05/2017 23:43

Is thinking employment even right in the digital economy there are lots of people that make a passive income by creative work.... but lots of risk attached to it and you need a skill... whilst house prices are still based on transport more and more people will work from home... and offshoring work will always happen. We need a competitive skilled country and how that's done is anyone's clue education being the foundation

We've been through this before
Corporation tax was 28% in 2010.
The Tories cut it to 20% and plan to cut it further to 18% by 2020.
This is the lowest rate in the G20. The lowest.
Now ..... job creation since 2010 - 80% of jobs created since 2010 - those jobs that the Tories are so proud of - 80% of them are in industries that pay less that £7.95 per hour. These are called 'low paid industries'. So yeah ... there is a fucking magic money tree and it's being exploited by the Tories to help the rich get even richer.
Employment in high paying jobs has increased but people in middle earning jobs have also been struggling as these middle earning jobs have disappeared and they have been forced to work for minimum wage.
Public sector employees have also borne the brunt of Tory austerity as wages have been cut by 14% in real terms.
So .... after seven years of low corporation tax would it not have been reasonable to expect to have seen some kind of 'trickle down' if it was going to happen? Because we haven't seen it. I wonder why?
