Seriously asking...

OP posts:

I dislike Jeremy Corbyn because his only goal is to lead the opposition.

This is effectively handing the tories the reins of power for the next two decades leading to a complete dismantlement of the welfare state.

JayzuzMaryJoseph · 11/02/2017 13:01

He's a relic. He hasn't changed his opinions since the 1960s. And he is completely ineffectual as an opposition leader.

He pisses me off, because right now we really, really need a strong socialist or social-democratic leader in this country.

meditrina · 11/02/2017 13:06

I don't dislike Corbyn, btw. And I still think that Labour could do with a leader who will actually produce a party with clear beliefs and the ability to persuade people to share those beliefs.

I am disappointed with Corbyn on those counts. But the only time I've actively disliked his public performance was the end of this week just gone, when he started banging on in an interview about 'fake news' - why in earth does he think using the vocabulary of Trump is going to play well with anyone?

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 11/02/2017 13:08

I agree with much of what everyone has already said

I don't dislike him as such but his leadership has resulted in the Labour Party lacking any credibility in opposition to the government

He doesn't seem to care about the divisions within the party he leads, nor does he appear to be doing anything to win the support of his MPs

I like him as a politician, and I like the way he deals with PMQs. But I don'5 think he's an effective leader of the opposition, and even if he was, the media have presented him in such a way that he has become unelectable.

It's not fair. But he must go.

venusinscorpio · 11/02/2017 13:28

YY Bertrand. The problem is who to succeed him.

meditrina · 11/02/2017 13:29

I think that Labour will remain unelectable for as long as it seems only to be chasing electability.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 11/02/2017 13:33

Because he's not a credible leader of a government, or even the opposition. He's more suited to organising protest marches than actual grown up politics. He commands no respect from his MPs and doesn't even care. I think the country desperately needs a credible opposition to ensure that things are debated thoroughly and from all perspectives, especially at times of huge change, and we just don't have that with him in charge.

Also, as luna says, until the Labour Party sorts itself out, in Scotland we're stuck under the boot of the SNP and their Neverendum hell.

MistressMolecules · 11/02/2017 13:40

My view is exactly the same as Hirples, I was a JC supporter right until that moment. There was a lot about his views that I agreed with, but this just smacks of sucking up to TM (who in turn is doing her own sucking up...).

pickledparsnip · 11/02/2017 13:42

Always liked him until Brexit. Really disappointed since then.

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2017 13:55

Venus- I think it has to be Kier Starmer. Too early for Jess Phillips, obviously, and I don!t think the electorate would go for Harriet Harman or Yvette Cooper............

RalphSteadmansEye · 11/02/2017 14:05

He's childish, petulant and rude.

Even if you're not a labour supporter (and I'm not), anyone can see that we need a decent opposition right now. He's not it. My centrist (LD, Labour or Tory voting) friends and I are despairing.

expatinscotland · 11/02/2017 14:18

He's a terrorist supporting cunt.

RalphSteadmansEye · 11/02/2017 14:19

Or that's another way to put it Grin

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2017 14:39

Sigh.

He is many things. But not a terrorist supporter.

expatinscotland · 11/02/2017 14:40

IMO, he is. In yours, he's not, but it's not for you to dictate to others what their opinion should be. Sigh.

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2017 14:41

Saying someone is a terrorist supporter is not an opinion.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 11/02/2017 15:04

I used to quite like him, but not any more. He obviously cares more about keeping his place as leader than he does about the party having any chance of winning a GE ever again.

Not opposing Brexit in attempt to appease the working class voters (many of whom have already made it clear they're not voting Labour with him in charge and would rather vote UKIP) has annoyed me. Half the country don't want it and have nobody representing them except LibDem. There was a chance for Labour to win a lot of votes back had he not been leader. He needs to stand down and the party needs to find somebody with enough strength and personality to unite them.

venusinscorpio · 11/02/2017 15:25

I would be happy to support Keir Starmer if he were leader.

expatinscotland · 11/02/2017 15:27

'Saying someone is a terrorist supporter is not an opinion.'

Okay, then. I believe he is a terrorist supporter. You disagree. It's not for you to dictate to others what they should believe because you disagree with it.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/02/2017 16:15

Jess Phillips

Dear god no!!!

BertrandRussell · 11/02/2017 16:26

No, of course I cannot dictate what people post. But I can-and will- challenge unsupported allegations stated as fact. Particularly if they are potentially. libelous.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/02/2017 16:29

Inviting certain people to the house of commons days after the Brighton bombing wasn't a very good idea, especially as people died and members of HoC families were seriously injured.

That better @BertrandandRussell

AllThePrettySeahorses · 11/02/2017 16:45

I don't know how anyone can't think that Corbyn is a terrorist supporter. Consider Corbyn's role on the editorial board of Briefing magazine, which contained gems such as 'the British only sit up and take notice [of Ireland] when they are bombed into it' and far worse as here:
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/Jeremy_Corbyn/11924431/Revealed-Jeremy-Corbyn-and-John-McDonnells-close-IRA-links.html

Not forgetting donations from Ibrahim Hamami www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/Jeremy_Corbyn/11938212/Jeremy-Corbyn-campaign-part-funded-by-Hamas.html

This all seems very dodgy too www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/labour-leadership-contest-7-questions-jeremy-corbyns-critics-say-he-needs-to-answer-10459775.html#_blank
