Trumps Tweets

What did Trump mean by "North Korea just stated that it is in the final stages of developing a nuclear weapon capable of reaching parts of the U.S. It won't happen!"?
Was he deriding North Korea's manufacturing capability - which has been somewhat unreliable, but may not remain so, or was he saying that North Korea would be stopped?

It's very hard to tell what he ever means with such short statements. He's had an 'interesting' Christmas with his tweets. He promised that if he got elected he would hardly ever use social media. Funny sort of restraint he's showing.

Very good point. They can sort out a rota, surely.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/01/2017 16:10

Lweji, if the director of the fbi hadn't raised fresh concerns related to the emails just before the election she may have won and there are concerns that the fake news stories created by Russia will have had an impact.
The difficulty is that it is impossible to quantify what difference the interference will have made.

Very good Rousette.

Lweji · 09/01/2017 16:15

Yes.
I suppose that's why the Democrats haven't called for a new election or anything like that.
Only to identify and react against foreign interference.

I suspect a normal candidate would have said they rejected such interference, that they'd have like to (or they'd have) won anyway, but still reject it. Or say nothing at all, but at least respect the conclusions by their future security and information service.

squishysquirmy · 09/01/2017 22:28

Bit of a minor point, but after the inauguration he is expected to take over the official POTUS twitter account Obama currently uses isn't he? Because it belongs to the position, rather than to Obama.
Can anyone actually see him switching to that completely - I imagine that he is too attached to his current one to give it up (mainly because he loves his own name so much), so maybe the official POTUS account will be used by his aides tweeting on his behalf whilst he tweets bullshit from his own account.

Lweji · 09/01/2017 22:37

As far as I could tell, Obama rarely tweets himself.

But good question. The thing is that he will no longer be private individual Donald. Everything he'll say will be official.

LadyMetroland · 09/01/2017 22:42

That is such a good question. As there is no precedent, I expect only The Donald himself knows. I kinda agree that he's likely to carry on with his personal account tweets, with his aides putting out the boring official ones.

I predict trouble ahead

Roussette · 10/01/2017 08:32

Yes, interesting times ahead, surely he has to give up the personal Donald tweets...

This outlines why. Too thin skinned and ego driven.

Lweji · 10/01/2017 08:51

Yes. And as the article says, foreign leaders will have the measure of him.
Praise will get them a long way, but winding him up could also make him do serious mistakes.

DoctorTwo · 10/01/2017 10:11

fake news stories created by Russia

Even the BBC reported most of the fake news sites reporting Trump news are based in one city in Macedonia.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 10:18

"It's finally happening - Fiat Chrysler just announced plans to invest $1BILLION in Michigan and Ohio plants, adding 2000 jobs. This after...Ford said last week that it will expand in Michigan and U.S. instead of building a BILLION dollar plant in Mexico. Thank you Ford & Fiat C!"

He appears to be irritating auto manufacturers who are repeatedly protesting in the news that what they are doing has absolutely nothing to do with Trump at all and that these things were decided long ago.

PhilODox · 10/01/2017 10:23

I was coming on to suggest watching Mark Hamill read the tweets out in the Joker's voice!

Lweji · 10/01/2017 10:36

DoctorTwo

Even claig thought that Macedonia story was unlikely and fake news itself. Wink

There's fake news and more believable fake news.
Still, I mostly blame Comey.

The point is that evidence of Russian hacking and releasing fake news have been found.
Plus, it's known that Russia has a paid troll agency to infiltrate social media in the west.
It's not that long ago that sleeper agents were found.
Just that is enough to leave the US government worried.
And anyone who thinks Russia has any good intentions towards the US is seriously deluded.
Sure keep your enemies closer than your friends, but also keep your eyes open.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 13:48

He seems to have removed his tweet disputing the fact that he mocked Kovaleski.

oh no, don't mind me! losing the plot slightly!

qwerty232 · 10/01/2017 20:17

God only knows. Apparently he sits in Trump Tower firing out this irresponsible crap in the middle of the night. Should the most powerful man on Earth be tweeting with abandon? Especially when he has the emotional IQ of a 14 year old boy. No offence to 14 year old boys.

PacificDogwod · 10/01/2017 21:24

Thank you, Lweji, for directing me here Grin

If somebody were to offer me the post of Ambassador of TrumpTweets I would be prepared to learn how to tweet Grin

I cannot help but wonder whether there is some kind of conspiracy allowing him enough rope to hang himself?! As long as he does it without pressing the Red Button in a fit of pique beforehand (or provoking somebody to press theirs...), that'd be fine by me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 21:58

welcome to a present oasis of sanity Pacific!

The one about Streep has been picked up by all major political comedy shows.
www.thestar.com/entertainment/2017/01/10/late-night-hosts-mock-trump-for-calling-meryl-streep-overrated-on-twitter.html

James Corden: “Truth is, this was actually good news for Meryl — because ‘most overrated actress in Hollywood’ was literally the only award she hadn’t won yet.”
Corden: “I mean, sure, she’s no Scott Baio.”

The best joke comment was by Kellyanne Conway, though:
“Why don’t you believe him? Why isn’t it taken at face value?”
“You can’t give him the benefit of the doubt on this and he’s telling you what was in his heart? You want to go with what’s come out of his mouth rather than what’s in his heart.”

Looking forward to SNL.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 22:05

did Conway really say that?? blimey.

KA about the Golden globes: "They can say what they want. But they have to be held into account." Jesus wept.

She couldn't be more slippery if she covered herself in oil.

Lweji · 11/01/2017 07:32

In fact, I think KA deserves a thread of her own.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 08:16

That she does! I'm listening to that right now. I may need to thud my head on the table a little.

"FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT!"

Egads! I guess he is a bit cross with CNN for last nights news.

In the immortal words of JC,
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

What goes around...
He had no problems with leaked emails.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2017 08:44

absolutely. I'd rather the whole thing hadnt gone down this path, but it has and its now out in the open. Have you read the document on buzzfeed?
