This article makes a good point about the "taking responsibility" line of argument:
"It’s a strikingly cruel statement, a viewpoint that imagines each life is to be lived so as to provide a sort of skewed morality lesson; a viewpoint clearly coming from the perspective of someone who hasn’t peed on a stick, terrified, because they have no way of dealing with – emotionally, practically, financially – two lines on a pregnancy test"

And this....

"At least Chis was honest and admitted that the treatment of women would never be an important enough issue to discuss."

Is a Perfect Example of this......

"Squishy - You and the others are very keen to put words in my mouth. It's a tactic I'm familiar with in bullying."

When my post said this....

"The truth is Trump's attitude to women will never be considered a priority to you Chris, will it? There will always be something more important."

Yep, I utterly agree with this. I held the same view over Monica Lewinsky and cigars.

Twisted squishy at it again Southall.

squishysquirmy · 11/12/2016 16:55

Four minutes after you posted that comment Chris I replied:

"I don't want to be accused of misquoting you so I just want to be clear that I'm interpreting your comment properly - you are agreeing that Trump's attitude to women does not, and will not, ever matter to you?"

You ignored me. Now you don't have to answer any questions you don't want to - I can't make you, but it becomes very hard to understand your position when you refuse to clarify it.

squishysquirmy · 11/12/2016 16:56

I'm not trying to "twist" your words, just taking them at face value.

squishysquirmy · 11/12/2016 16:58

When will policies and attitudes that effect women be important enough to discuss Chris? When every single other problem has finally been sorted out?

Lweji · 11/12/2016 17:06

Did you actually said this, Chris?
"The truth is Trump's attitude to women will never be considered a priority to you Chris, will it? There will always be something more important."

It IS important that quotes are correctly attributed and there is no misunderstanding.

(Also, why the quesrions for clarification)

Trying to get into an actual issue debate, ahem, I don't think women's issues should be an afterthought for any government. Women are 50 % of the population and are not proportionally represented in power. Women are, through their biology, a more vulnerable section of the population in many ways. Because so many women are literally left holding the baby, they are held responsible over the next generation. But they are often, and particularly in the US, not given the means to properly support or educate the children they may be forced to have. And yet, they are condemned if they want to abort or if they give up their children, or don't educate them properly.
Women can be heavily affected by family planning policies, but also, and not less heavily, by health care, tax, immigration, housing, labor policies.
If women are forgotten in relation to these policies, it can have a huge impact on society.
So, no, I certainly don't support the view that attitudes to women are a minor issue for a Presidency. I'd say it's a crucial issue.

Chris1234567890 · 11/12/2016 17:24

"Did you actually said this, Chris?
"The truth is Trump's attitude to women will never be considered a priority to you Chris, will it? There will always be something more important.""

Nope. Thats a classic goady twisty squishy post.

Lweji · 11/12/2016 17:27

But you stated it was you who said it in your previous post:

"When my post said this...."

""The truth is Trump's attitude to women will never be considered a priority to you Chris, will it? There will always be something more important.""

"Yep, I utterly agree with this."

Got a little confused there?

Roussette · 11/12/2016 17:31

It is a crucial issue and I'm not sure how anyone can argue that womens rights and attitudes to women are not under threat with Trump and Pence in charge.

After all, look what Pence has done with Indiana. He is a born again evangelical christian who has tried to shut down Planned Parenthood in Indiana which resulted in most of the clinics in his state being shut down (a valuable source of help for women) and he is by his own admission one of the most extreme anti abortion legislators in the US. Oh, yes, and while in Congress he voted three times against the Fair Pay act, which calls for equal pay for women.

I still need examples of how women will be better off under these two.

So what do you think about Trump's attitude to women? Does it matter to you?

Lweji · 11/12/2016 17:40

As the most interesting questions have left the thread a desert of rolling tumbleweed of accusations of bullying and misrepresentation, I'll throw this in:

Trump's victory rallies.
I think they are a waste of money and resources and time.
They have been a failure in terms of attendance, for the venues booked, and he still has a few more lined up.
Discuss.

(also trying a different format to see if it's better).

Roussette · 11/12/2016 17:40

As far as I'm aware chrisnumbers you aren't allowed to accuse anyone of being a troll. You have to report if you feel that.

Squishy contributes to discussion. Just because you don't like her opinion is no reason to call her a troll

Roussette · 11/12/2016 17:42

Lweji I saw a poster on another thread get a bit of a pasting for writing 'discuss' Grin

I think his 'victory rallies' are beyond pathetic. Perhaps he can do them alongside US Xfactor tours, that'll save money!

Lweji · 11/12/2016 17:45

I know fully well what MN thinks of "discuss" Grin, but, failing everything else, maybe it's considered as more acceptable by some pps. Who knows?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2016 17:45

Victory rallies do seem to be a very expensive ego trip. It would be better if he just got on with preparing for the job - he's going to be rather busy.

Kaija · 11/12/2016 17:48

Not sue how much of the job he's actually intending to do. Seems as though he's handing it over to "his generals"

Ontopofthesunset · 11/12/2016 17:48

I'm fascinated by the idea of 'conversation' that we're apparently not having.

Shall we make one up?

Trump is great. Yes, he is. Isn't he? Yeah, I really rate him. How fantastic now that the elites have been defeated. Yes, I really love to watch them quake. Brilliant that all the PPEs and spin are over. Marvellous. Less fat too.

Now, back to the discussion of whether this administration looks likely to be favourable to women's rights.

Lweji · 11/12/2016 17:49

I think his rallies are a discusting waist of everybody's time and money. It's like a second hand campaign.
It could only get worse if he got some pirates on, but they are busy preparing to be in his future administration. Having said that, Pence is going along.

misspelling words also seems popular

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/12/2016 17:50

I wonder what sort of world he thinks he lives in where the world situation doesn't change from day to day.
Spect he gets all his new from twitter. He probably just checks 'trending'.

Ontopofthesunset · 11/12/2016 17:51

I tend to think that no one ever got less smart from listening to information. Smart is what you do with the information.

Chris1234567890 · 11/12/2016 18:13

"At least Chis was honest and admitted that the treatment of women would never be an important enough issue to discuss."

This is classic trolling. Something I never said, implied or ever came close to 'projecting', and indeed is massively offensive. Its a typical squishy tactic, because shes still smarting after being ignored 15 pages earlier.

How MN deals with it is up to them.

BertrandRussell · 11/12/2016 18:19

I think we're supposed to find a lot of what Trump says and does hysterically funny, aren't we? The people are laughing at the discombobulation of the elites.

Kaija · 11/12/2016 18:21

For the the sake of putting this to bed, can I just ask again, Chris, do you believe a Trump presidency will be good, bad or neutral for women's rights?

squishysquirmy · 11/12/2016 19:04

I'm not a troll, Chris, but if you think I am report me.
If you don't want to be misunderstood, learn to express yourself better. Or help us out when we ask you to clarify your stance. Smile

Lweji, I think the rallies are a disgusting waste of money and serve no purpose other than Trump's enjoyment.
He loved the campaign trail: Making stream-of-consciousness monologues in front of cheering crowds. What narcissist wouldn't adore that? Now that the elections over he's reluctant to give that up.
