Claig, you're in serious danger of sounding like one of Trump's cyber trolls. Repetitive, dull, not answering the question.

Would you agree that IonaMumsnet's plee, not to use disablist language, is political correctness gone mad?

claig · 16/11/2016 21:33

I don't use insulting language to anyone, I don't call you a "cyber troll" or anything else. I have explained to you why Trump won and it because of arrogant elites who sneered at the people, who tried to take ftheir freedoms by using political correctness.

If you don't understand it, that's fine because not understanding is fine, because it will only mean that the people wil keep winning and will carry on defeating the political class.

OP posts:
toomanypetals · 16/11/2016 21:34

You still haven't answered the question...

claig · 16/11/2016 21:36

'You still haven't answered the question...'

What question? I told you I don't use insulting language, I explained that is not what political correctness is all about.

OP posts:
toomanypetals · 16/11/2016 21:39

The question was, do you disagree with Ionamumsnet telling us to not use disablist language? It's imposing political correctness and inhibiting free speech after all...

claig · 16/11/2016 21:42

It doesn't bother me because I don't use it, but it is a term used widely in the United States, for example, and not everybody realises that it is offensive, so I don't crucify anybody who uses it. I don't use it so I don't mind what MN says about it.

OP posts:

' It's imposing political correctness and inhibiting free speech after all...'

Political correctness is not about using polite language. Trump didn't win an election because Americans wanted to be rude. They wanted freedom of thought to challenge the "very, very stupid people" who are too afraid to think outside the box and therefore impose nonsense policies on them, just as our political class did.

OP posts:
claig · 16/11/2016 21:50

Here is the great Dr Ben Carson on political correctness

"it is used as a control mechanism and it is used for intimidation"

Trump fans love Dr Ben Carson, who is black. They aren't racist, they love common sense and Dr Ben Carson is brilliant on political correctness and that is why he is so popular with Republicans and conservatives worldwide.

OP posts:
toomanypetals · 16/11/2016 22:19

Well here's the thing Claig, political correctness is about using polite language about minorities, women, the disabled.

I'm of an age that I can remember life before political correctness. You know, when black people could be called derogatory names and politicians on the right could put leaflets through your door stating to vote for them if you didn't want a n**r for a neighbour. And the endless, fucking boring but offensive jokes about mother-in-laws and women from sweaty male comedians in smoky pubs full of angry, white men.

The fact is, for all the indignities political correctness has imposed on us, it has improved the lives of millions of minorities and women worldwide. By insisting on certain boundaries around polite public discourse about certain groups of human beings.

So all your Newspeak, which is unclear and wooly about what PC is, is actually factually inaccurate.

Political correctness is about offensive language. And those that oppose it, usually, want to regress to when it was okay to say offensive things about minority groups.

claig · 16/11/2016 22:25

'So all your Newspeak, which is unclear and wooly about what PC is, is actually factually inaccurate.'

It's not. I quoted the articles by thinkers who have explained why it was crucial to Trump's victory and why it will be crucial in overturning the political class across Europe. Polite language is not what it is all about. No one votes for the right to be rude.

'Political correctness is about offensive language. And those that oppose it, usually, want to regress to when it was okay to say offensive things about minority groups.'

No that is a total misunderstanding of what it is all about, and you seem to share the understanding of the political class which is why they lost.

But we will have to agree to disagree as you don't see it teh way the articles I quoted do. As more and more of the political class fall across Europe, you may see why it is integral to that process.

I think claig and spin should get a room, you two! Grin

I'll just leave this here - no doubt you won't respond, but it might be of interest to some.

I truly hope that your gloating smugness will turn out to be justified, but fear it won't.

claig · 16/11/2016 22:50

Just rewinding a tad, back to the Ed Milliband thing Spin posted

Ed tweeted today "Appalled by B. Johnson saying he shares values of freedom and democracy with Trump. Accept he won but don't normalise his racism & misogyny."

I get a bit tied up in knots with the whole PC thing. Apart from Ed here, attempting to give us some comfort that every other world leader, apart from Trump, is indeed a fine upstanding citizen, but can someone explain "dont normalise racism and misogyny"? "Normalise" is being thrown around alot at the moment, Id just like to be clear what offence I may be committing on that front.

claig · 16/11/2016 23:21

The theory is that if you don't condemn Trump then you are making racism and misogyny normal (the new normal). The only way to prevent that, according to Ed, is to call Trump a racist and misogynist at every opportunity. It is a way of trying to exclude the next President of the United States from polite society and correct political thought.

BoredOfBrexit · 16/11/2016 23:24

And Claig, Inam sure you will join me in wishing them good luck with that - not that the POTUS will be in the least bit interested in their sucking lemons socials.

claig · 16/11/2016 23:28

Absolutely, Bored. Ed Miliband is a failed leader, his members have rejected his entire legacy and preferred Corbyn, rightly, to Miliband and the Oxbridge set, even though Miliband and all the rest of them backed the 172's canddate. It is amazing that the BBC keeps putting the past, Ed and the rest, on Newsnight, rather than Corbyn's team.

If Theresa May understands what is going on in the world, which I think she does, then Labour won't get back in for a long time because the whole world is changing fundamentally right now.

some of us have memory

some of us are familiar with history

some of us recognise fascists, in uniform, or not

some of us have heard these arguments before

some of us know where this rhetoric leads

I won't be afraid, but I will be ready

Chris1234567890 · 16/11/2016 23:34

I kind of get that, but hes talking about the President Elect of the USA. How do americans feel about that? Its their elections, its their choice, and its their President. Just slightly bemused that theres an expectation being put on our Foreign Minister to call out the offensive ones.... I suppose we should just be gratefull Ed wont be negotiating future trade or world peace.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 16/11/2016 23:35

and those of you who cheer on this parade of white supremacists, don't worry, you'll get what you deserve

your lot always do, in time

enjoy your parades while you can

BoredOfBrexit · 16/11/2016 23:35

I feel sorry for her having to carry the buck for that dick Cameron - them all going 'she's got NO PLAN' when it was he who failed to prepare anything then legged it so she's had to hit the ground running - and then I think - well, she must be tough, she knew what she was taking on.
Corbyn is starting to look like decent opposition but I'm afraid that's as far as it goes.
