Well done George Osborne - stonking budget

claig · 08/07/2015 13:37

Tax free Allowance rising to £11000
40% tax threshold rising to £43000
Corporation Tax falling to 19% and then 18%
National Living Wage will reach £9 by 2020, will start at £7.20

If they carry on like this, Labour are finished and poor old UKIP and Farage won't stand a chance of getting a look in. But credit where credit is due - well done Osborne!

I think it might be helpful to actually address what some of the other people on the other thread are saying

What is the response to someone who is disabled, or working poor and losing thousands?

Really, what is YOUR response if you think this budget is beneficial.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 19:41

And I am probably better off after the budget, marginally, btw.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/07/2015 19:43

I'm also apparently £215 better off under this budget

Ffs.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 19:45

It was glaringly obvious from the whole speech that they think anyone claiming benefits due to disability (ESA not DLA, which is not an out of work benefit) is a feckless lazyarse sponger who should be working.

Which isn't true so a lot of people will be in a bad place right now.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 19:45

Laurie..it feels a bit dirty doesn't it.

Heidistillyodels · 08/07/2015 19:46

How lovely that those of you who voted Tory are so pleased with yourselves. Meanwhile, the poor get poorer and we continue to turn back the clock to the Victoria era and the days of the deserving poor. Who gives a shit that millions of families rely on food banks to survive, they just need to work harder earn a "living wage" , have no more than 2 children (who can't afford to go to university)and everything will be fine. A bunch of privileged millionaires are sitting around table making these judgements and some people actually think this is good. I am ashamed to be British.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/07/2015 19:49

Yes it does Fanjo

We were better off last time as well.

It's just so bloody wrong.

claig · 08/07/2015 19:49

'It just wasn't necessary or sensitive'

It's a free country, we are all fed up of being silenced by progressives who say we aren't allowed to have differing opinions to them. The Tories won the election even though the progressives tried to silence anyone who disagreed with the way the welfare system is run.

Its such a shame you can't just leave.

Whiskwarrior · 08/07/2015 19:53

Progressives?

Here we go...

Abort! Abort!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 19:54

Not silencing you, just pointing out that to post 'what a stonking budget' while people are upset about losing their income is grossly insensitive, to say the least.

Whiskwarrior · 08/07/2015 19:58

Indeed, Fanjo, not to mention people rushing in to rub their hands with glee at 'freeloaders' getting their comeuppance.

Insensitive and callous.

lougle · 08/07/2015 19:58

What makes me cross is that people don't seem to realise that the marginal taxation rate for people on benefits is epic.

If DH earns £1 (after his tax allowance is used up) he gets the following deductions:

£1 pre-tax
-£0.20 tax
-£0.12 NI
-£0.41 Tax credits (41%)
--
£0.27
-£0.175 Housing benefit (65%)
-£0.054 Council tax benefit (20%)
-----
£0.041

So, for every pound he earns, we lose 96% in deductions.

claig · 08/07/2015 20:00

'Not silencing you, just pointing out that to post 'what a stonking budget' while people are upset about losing their income is grossly insensitive, to say the least.'

Some people were upset that Labour lost the election. Are Conservative voters not allowed to say it was a stonking election because some people are upset. I think it was a stonking tax cutting budget for low paid workers and incentivising business. It has hit private service companies, dividend income and middle classes and helped low paid workers. It is a popular budget and Labour has no answer to these policies. Sorry you are upset.

lougle · 08/07/2015 20:02

After the budget, just taking into account the increase in taper from 41% to 48%, we will lose 97% of every pound he earns.

Didntseethiscominghelpplease · 08/07/2015 20:03

Reality check budget. You cannot expect to not work or have a low paid job and continue to have children AND expect other people to pay for them. My husband and I both have good jobs but after child number 2 we had to decide how we continued . If we had more children other aspects of our life would've been affected. So we didn't . We've never been entitled to benefits but we aren't loaded as we've paid for private education. We should be encouraging the people who bemoan being trapped to ensure their children use the FREE education available to them to better themselves instead of encouraging them to admit defeat and fail in schools and then get stuck on the benefit treadmill. There are millions of immigrants who have done this and 3rd generation are self sufficient successful people. It might seem harsh to some but as a budget we cannot make it ok for people to know it pays to have children. If they don't like it sell the flat screen TV, unload the crates of booze and walk past the cigarette kiosk.in short Cut your cloth according to what you can afford.

claig · 08/07/2015 20:04

Miliband promised a Minimum Wage of £8 by 2020, Osborne has said the National Living Wage will be £9 by 2020.

Great.

I just can't believe we live in such a world.
People happy to rub their hands together at other people's misery, because they are jealous of the poor. They may have something that you don't so you wish them ill.
I'm glad I'm not like you lot.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 20:06

Fanjo

Phew, I wondered what I'd said then.
I am so sad for so many people and stories I have seen today.
I'm quite happy to be losing my £840 now as I know we'll manage.
i certainly won't be complaining.
So many poor people are affected and must feel so scared. I can't imagine how anybody could not have so much sympathy and empathy for their fellow human beings. Sad
