Well done George Osborne - stonking budget

claig · 08/07/2015 13:37

Tax free Allowance rising to £11000
40% tax threshold rising to £43000
Corporation Tax falling to 19% and then 18%
National Living Wage will reach £9 by 2020, will start at £7.20

If they carry on like this, Labour are finished and poor old UKIP and Farage won't stand a chance of getting a look in. But credit where credit is due - well done Osborne!

We won't know until it's properly implemented

Heidistillyodels · 08/07/2015 21:27

Because they are Tories Majestic that's what they do.

TalkinPeace · 08/07/2015 21:28

Claig
He hit the dividend payout for entrepeneurs
He hit the ERS NI allowance for entrepeneurs
He hit the IR35 ramp up for entrepeneurs
talk about dumping on his own doorstep.

He shafts those he does not care about AND shafts those he says he does.

Or maybe the big companies should be willing to pay their freelancers and thus get holiday pay and sick pay and all the other things that big corporations try to avoid.

Frankly the only true winners in this budget are tax evading offshore bastards who buy politicians nice lunches

themadwoman · 08/07/2015 21:28

Claig. From SJW's to activists to feminists. You name it there are silencing tactics everywhere from the left

claig · 08/07/2015 21:28

'Where this was NOT a stonking budget was raising the inheritance tax threshold. When welfare is being cut, then why make the rich richer by increasing inherited wealth?'

I disagree. People work hard all their lives and want to pass on what they have earned to their families without Gordon Brown getting hold of it and spending it on foreign aid projects. It is a free society where the state should not take 40% of what one has accumulated over a lifetime's work.

claig · 08/07/2015 21:31

themadwoman, absolutely, no one is allowed to say what they think anymore. But it is counterproductive and the silent majority is turning against it as Liz Kendall understands well. Labour are trying to reinvent themselves and appeal to the silent majority but they are not helped by these silencing tactics.

We aren't silencing you because you don't agree with us.

We..well I. .am suggesting you don't post so insensitively

claig · 08/07/2015 21:34

'There is room for debate between right leaning and left leaning MN but you are offensive and insensitive and really getting towards being a GF.

You talk a lot about being silenced but your responses are classic shut downs.'

No they aren't. I don't call you a Goady Fucker, but you love to spray that term around.

claig · 08/07/2015 21:36

'We..well I. .am suggesting you don't post so insensitively'

I think it is a great budget. I like it. You don't. I don't tell you what to think, why do you tell me what I should post?

OP posts:
themadwoman · 08/07/2015 21:37

Not only that. It's like all debates can't hurt someone else's feelings. Like that saying feelz before realz

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/07/2015 21:37

Because you will make people feel crap.

But obviously that doesn't matter to you. You keep on with your wee celebration

claig · 08/07/2015 21:39

'So you must really dislike themadwoman Claig

And that one up thread banging on about flat screens.'

I don't dislike anyone, not even you. I am all for free speech just because I disagree with it doesn't mean I want to make the poster feel guilty about voicing their opinions. I believe in free debate and an exchange of ideas.

QuiteLikely5 · 08/07/2015 21:41

Interesting thread but people are being silenced because if they dare to express an opinion in favour of the budget they are somehow deemed to be enjoying the impact it will have on others who will lose out.

I did think it was a decent budget. Yes folk will lose money but we lost our CB and that was over 2k a year. Yes I did have a grumble about it but I guess the same thing is happening to a different section of earners right now, only they got a delay of a few years and it was TC and not CB.

claig · 08/07/2015 21:41

'Because you will make people feel crap.'

But then I can't say it was a stonking victory for Chelsea to win the League bcause someone might feel crap. We are adults in a free society, we have to allow people to say what they think. I probably make Gordon Brown feel crap by calling him Gordon Bennett but he is an adult.

Claig. Two things spring to mind about two "intelligent" or realistic labour MPs

my favorite Frank Field and the impressive Liz Kendall.

They are very favorable to the majority of the current Governments thinking on policies. This is correct the country needs two parties Right of centre Conservative or centre where the Labour party needs and should be.

There should be no more than 10% in political differences between the two parties. I believe both Frank Field and Liz Kendall understand this and know that unless the labour party quickly acknowledges this fact they are finished.

Jeremy Corbyn is a joke sadly for the preservation of the Labour Party the Unions don't think so and it is possible he could become leader. The only potential Prime Minister in the Labour Party is Liz Kendall. Cooper/ Burnham have had there day (hopeless).

Very sad budget - great to see the minimum wage being increased, but the living wage foundation calculated the living wage including tax credits. Without them they'd be much higher. So many exceptionally hard working people will be out of pocket so wealthy people can gift their cihldren £1million of unearnt wealth.

Claig - you quoted Piketty - you must know his (negative) views of capital accumulated unabated.

Also claig, things have changed muchos in the last 3 hours - you were backing Corbyn on the other thread, what's changed??!!!

Alyosha · 08/07/2015 21:45

Glad to see Liz is managing to win over the UKIP & Far left supporting people like you claig, bodes well for her leadership campaign :D

claig · 08/07/2015 21:45

"Claig

Good, they can pay more so that the working poor in their millions can receive an increased tax threshold and a greater minimum wage. I think that is right and think he has done a good thing.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 08/07/2015 21:46

Quite, when you lost cb you probably weren't worrying whether to buy food or pay the utility bills.

claig · 08/07/2015 21:47

'Glad to see Liz is managing to win over the UKIP & Far left supporting people like you claig, bodes well for her leadership campaign'

It is no good for me, because she is just Tory lite, so although I agree with her, I might as well vote UKIP or Tory instead. I actually prefer Jeremy Corbyn because I want a real opposition with different views and policies to the Tories so that I can make up my mind if they make more sense.

I am not personally affected a great deal, however I am saddened to see the removal of housing benefit for under 21's I work with young people and there are some this will hit terribly. What about those leaving care, those in supported housing where exactly are they supposed to live?

GingerCuddleMonster · 08/07/2015 21:52

well I'm about £25 quid worse off a week in tax credits but I'm £21 better off a week when my NMW job goes up to the new rate. so I'll be down £4, I can manage that without major impact.

overall not a bad budget, for a all Tory budget. It could have been much worse, but it seems to have spread the rounds of fire rather than grouping them on a particular social class.

Boredworkingmum020 · 08/07/2015 21:52

Thought it was a well thought out budget. Although the estimate is that introducing the compulsory living wage will cost 60000 jobs. But might be offset by increasing the Nic breaks. Compromise on non doms seems fair enough. Query over whether Russian oligarchs will still flock to London. My main concern is why someone on £30k is allowed to live in social housing in the first place.

Alyosha · 08/07/2015 21:53

fixybelle - quite. A budget for the old & rich. Many 18-25 yo are parents - yet they are supposed to survive on lower tax credits and no hope of a higher minimum wage. It's outrageous.
