Hello,

I'm wondering if someone could help me. I think I want to become a member of the Lib dems, but I have some questions.

So, what happens when you become a member? Would it affect any job I do, I mean in the sense do employers ask about political affiliations at all. I'm going to be training to be a midwife soon and not sure if stuff like that affects the job at all.

Please forgive me for my naivety, as it a public sector job I wasn't sure if it would be frowned upon or not.

Thanks

Join! 11,000 other people have been horrified at the attack on liberalism and joined since polling day.
It won't affect your job as a midwife at all. You don't need to tell your employers at all.
I've grabbed you a link from twitter www.libdems.org.uk/join. One of the candidates for leader is the incredibly well respected former health minister Norman Lamb, who was the minister who spearheaded all the recent work on mental health. He's very popular in the health sector.

The only jobs where it seems to be an issue are senior judges or the like. If you're a senior officer of a local authority, eg monitoring officer, you can be a member but not actively campaign.
