Justice for Men and Boys - Isn't this exactly why we need feminism

wickeddevil · 30/03/2013 22:27

Heard Justice for Men and Boys Founder Mike Buccanan on Womens Hour earlier today complaining that men pay 72% of all income tax.
Well isn't that because they have more income?

And instead of complaining about the feminist agenda doesn't it demonstrate why we need it?

I'd like to know how much money he's making from all of that.

Why?

How much money does Murdoch make from objectifying women?

In general, as a boy, your Son is probably just as likely, if not more so, to be assaulted or be at the end of a violent act as your daughters.

This is true. My daughter is more likely to be assaulted by a man. My son is more likely to be assaulted by another man.

Is it worth me asking if we're going to get an answer to seeker's question, vadark? You did say earlier that you were coming to it? Or can I go to bed? I've got a long day tomorrow - the kids are back at school (including the sons that according to you I just don't care about Hmm )

Vadark · 16/04/2013 00:10

Seeker - Phase 1. Who has more choice regarding contraception? I'd say it was the woman. i.e. pill, femidom, coil, iud, diaphragm, vaginal ring, implants, patches, sterilisation.

man has male pill, condom and sterilisation.

Do you agree?

Generally, the man would use a condom.
Generally, the woman uses the pill or a coil (or similar)

I have to go. Think carefully before you answer. Please stick to Phase 1 i.e. pre-pregnancy before we move forward.

Vadark · 16/04/2013 00:11

""Do you care about all children? If so, how old does a boy have to be before you ignore his needs as a human being?"

Well that's me over and out with Vadark. Admiring other people's stamina and patience, statistics and acute critiques."

Surely you're not facing a subjugation situation, Pan. Time to quit already? I guess that WAS a difficult question to pose. Sorry.

seeker · 16/04/2013 00:13

There are more methods of contraception available to women, yes.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 16/04/2013 00:18

I can't wait for the punch line.

Pan · 16/04/2013 00:19

fwiw TED is owned by a not-for-profit foundation. The man in the clip is a very successful businessman, and so presumably could spend his time and efforts in making more money, but has chosen to spend time contributing ideas to the TED initiative.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 16/04/2013 00:23

I have to go. Think carefully before you answer. Please stick to Phase 1 i.e. pre-pregnancy before we move forward.

Do as the man says, everyone.

runningforthebusinheels · 16/04/2013 00:33

Do you care about all children? If so, how old does a boy have to be before you ignore his needs as a human being?

I'll support all my children, regardless of sex, in which ever way I can to fulfil their goals in life, go to university, follow a good career or whatever. According to this Telegraph article Female graduates earn less than males ? even if they studied the same subject though - the outlook is a lot more rosy for boys than girls:

Female graduates earn thousands of pounds less than their male counterparts - even if they studied the same subject at university.

One in five men are paid more than £30,000 after their degree, compared with just 8% of women who earn the same.

...according to HECSU's reseach, a gap persists even if men and women have the same qualifications. Female law graduates, for instance, can expect to earn 28% less than men at the start of their careers. They earn just over £20,000 on average ? nearly £8,000 less than their male counterparts. This was despite that fact that more women than men applied to study law at university, out of those surveyed.

"I can sniff a feminist out"
"Beep beep beep, bullshit radar going off"
"Think carefully before you answer. Please stick to......."

The person who is typing these words is dangerously angry, over-bearing, controlling and abusive. There is a tone which is, at best, exremely unpleasant, at worst, threatening.

I think everyone has done their best but it's a lost cause.

Cakes and half the roses done,

Wonder what Vardak is achieving?

AnnieLobeseder · 16/04/2013 15:56

One thing has come out of this thread for me, I suppose. I have been examining whether I am actually equally outraged when I see inequality against men/boys, and I am happy to report that yes, I am.

I recently reported a picture a friend posted on Facebook which I though objectified men (half-naked men posing looking sexy, for no purpose other than to be eye candy). Facebook took it down, though they leave pictures of half-naked women and women being abused up. But that's another topic altogether.

Today I was helping out at a school and the leader of the organisation I was with was explaining the setup and explaining to the children to dismantle their work before moving on so that the next group couldn't copy their answers "because boys sometimes cheat like that". That was nasty anti-male gender stereotyping and I called him up on it. Children live up to the expectations adults have of them.

My personal feminist crusade is FGM, though you can bet your life that I also speak out against male circumcision. And I'm Jewish, so you can imagine the opposition I face.

So, Vadark, Mike and Co., your accusations that I care nothing for men and boys are very false. Feminists do not hate men. We do not seek to improve only the lives of women. You are wrong, you are misinformed and yet you still spew forth venom about what you think feminists believe and do.

My conscience is clear. Spew away.

Pan · 16/04/2013 17:07

On that theme, a thing that annoys and slightly depresses me is the low expectations of behaviours that we men have of each other too often. (hence the 'Shirtless Guy' job in Hollisters shops where young girls shop a lot.)
I'm not a lofty, dreamer type at all, but to witness so much excuse-making and 'allowances' being made for gender-based stereo-typing is a bit galling. Mike and his men are really really not doing us a favour by appealing to us to shift blame and make it a resource and attitude problem based on female 'advantage'. It just clouds what's gone wrong/going wrong and nothing changes for the better at all.

Blistory · 16/04/2013 17:23

Just popping in out of curiosity - has seeker passed or failed phase 1 ?

Dadthelion · 16/04/2013 17:44

'Mike and his men are really really not doing us a favour by appealing to us to shift blame and make it a resource and attitude problem based on female 'advantage'.'

I thinks they're getting people talking about issues that before have just been accepted as the norm though.

AutumnMadness · 16/04/2013 18:39

Oh for frig's sake! Vardak, just answer the bloody question!

Or it is becoming very clear what your position is - blah-blah-blah, complain-complain-complain, pontificate everyone to death, but no real plan. Jeez, for what we, feminists, are worth, at least we have a PLAN!

Vadark · 16/04/2013 21:41

Hello everybody and I'm in a good mood tonight; just thought you'd like to know. Here's one to put you in a good mood too:
