Justice for Men and Boys - Isn't this exactly why we need feminism

wickeddevil · 30/03/2013 22:27

Heard Justice for Men and Boys Founder Mike Buccanan on Womens Hour earlier today complaining that men pay 72% of all income tax.
Well isn't that because they have more income?

And instead of complaining about the feminist agenda doesn't it demonstrate why we need it?

OP posts:
Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:03

"Oh Vadark. Fortunately I do give a shit."

Only about women, Show me your support for ALL of the population without leaving out half.

"Fortunately, without tooting my horn too much, I do a lot. (some I ask about/talk about on this site). Fortunately it's largely about men improving their lives, at no cost to anyone around them (and always to those people's benefit).Fortunately just about all of it is diametrically opposed to the stuff you and Mike talk about. We look at life down opposite ends of a telescope. We use similar words but talk a different language."

That whole paragraph is meaningless. Show me your support for everyone including the plight of men and the good causes you could be supporting there too.

"And when ARE you going to get round to answering seekers questions eh?"

You don't answer mine. I will answer Seeker's, you'll see.

"fwiw, the TED talk has been referenced a couple of times, and I'd posted it aaaages ago. Here it is again, not perfect at all but v refreshing to hear on a main stream media."

That guy must be making a good living from his audience. He's taking an opportunity that I guess is accessible to anyone selfish enough to omit half of the population while putting the other half on a pedestal. Quite a clever money-making tactic.

Pan - I trust you're not making money out of feminism, are you? Just curious; don't take offense.

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:05

"Yeah, because it's really cool, isn't it, to see a man getting beaten up by a woman and showing this as being acceptable to our young generation!!! You really are showing your true colours!"

vadark - you do realise it wasn't me saying that, don't you? It was Adam Levine. I agree with Annie, I abhor the normalisation of any violence in in music videos - hence my posting about sigmund's son's aggressive play not being tolerated in school.

Feminism is against any violence - it also fights any the rigid gender roles dictated by society. But feminist didn't make that video - men did. Feminists wouldn't endorse that video - why would you think that? Do you think feminism advocates violence against men being ok? Confused

"I've also acknowledged numerous causes that I would support for women's rights"

Where?

And please stop SHOUTING (!!!!!!)

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:14

"You have a bit of a cheek when it it very well documented how prevalent misogyny is in the media and music industry"

Show me a link to a popular, mainstream music video that promotes violence against women as being fun or acceptable without consequences for the male perpetrator?

"and how much women are sexually objectified and only valued for their physical appearance."

What, you mean like this:

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:15

"Er, I think the point of the video was to highlight violence-specifically sexual violence. If it had been man on woman violence it would just have been more of the same, ho hum. But turning tit round to make it woman on man highlights the whole shocking nature of sexual exploitation and violence in the media."

Yes, that puts it really well. Thank you.

Pan · 15/04/2013 23:16

yes, I didn't think much of what i'd said would be recognised by yourself. It appears it isn't anti-women enough, or some such. As I said, similar words/different language. And no I'm not earning any money from feminism. Struggling to think if Grin or Hmm would be best on that one. Curious why you ask about that.

and answer the questions.....please?

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:21

"I have had a look at two of your links though, Vadark, and can tell you that both would be heavily condemned by feminists for two reasons. "

But they're not. Show me where.

"Firstly, these videos normalise violence, which is wrong no matter who is inflicting it on who. Portraying violence in popular culture normalises it and that isn't good for anyone."

We agree.

"And secondly, because the female-on-male violence in these fantasy settings perpetuates the myth that woman-on-man violence is a fantasy, that men don't get abused because they're so big and strong while women are small and weak."

Cobblers. You're making excuses. It's wrong, plain and simple. It condones violence against men and it teaches our young generation that it's ok to hit a man but any violence against women gets banned. Another example of female privilege right under your very noses.

"Which as we've mentioned before are the very stereotypes of men and women that the patriarchy perpetuates and feminists oppose. "

There is no such thing as the patriarch except for in the heads of feminists who use it as a tool.

"We keep telling you that feminists are actually opposed to most of the "injustices" you accuse us of."

And I keep asking you to show me the evidence.

"Why won't you listen?"

Show me evidence, I am listening.

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:23

"I absolutely agree with you. And as a feminist I do absolutely oppose double standards. We all do."

Show me your supportive measures for eradicating sexism against men and boys.

seeker · 15/04/2013 23:23

Violence is wrong. Absolutely.

Now, about this accidentally pregnant woman..........

AnnieLobeseder · 15/04/2013 23:31

So when we say we agree with you, you still keep shouting at us?

seeker · 15/04/2013 23:33

Just been off- gone up a level in candy crush- still no reply.....

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:34

"Er, I think the point of the video was to highlight violence-specifically sexual violence."

No. The point of the video is to make money. They know that they can get away with this type of female on male violence and they know that today's sick society, and sad to say but true, the shear amount of girls who like the idea of beating up a man, will pay for it and probably even more likely to buy the song. So sad.

"If it had been man on woman violence it would just have been more of the same, ho hum"

Ok, put your money where your mouth is and show me a modern music video where a popular male artist punches and smacks a female with no consequence for him. Go on, should be easy based on your statement.

"But turning tit round to make it woman on man highlights the whole shocking nature of sexual exploitation and violence in the media."

No. It simply demonstrates that today's society is brainwashed into the idea that it's acceptable for a woman to punch and slap a man where the other way around is taboo. How convenient again for the privileged female.

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:42

Try googling Monster by Kanye West.

seeker · 15/04/2013 23:42

You know, a cynic might think that Vardak doesn't want to answer the question. Is it possible that he knows his solution might go down very well............?

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:44

"vadark - you do realise it wasn't me saying that, don't you? It was Adam Levine. I agree with Annie, I abhor the normalisation of any violence in in music videos - hence my posting about sigmund's son's aggressive play not being tolerated in school."

Show me, as a feminist, your support measures.

"Feminism is against any violence - it also fights any the rigid gender roles dictated by society. But feminist didn't make that video - men did."

Beep, beep, beep, sorry bullshit detector just went off again. Listen, there are more and more women working for the media these days and those women have a powerful say in what gets sanctioned. Funny how they have enough power to put a stop to certain things that look negative on women whilst at the same time conveniently passing through the anti-male stuff. You're full of excuses and you know it.

"Feminists wouldn't endorse that video - why would you think that? Do you think feminism advocates violence against men being ok?"

Silence is consent. Yes of course feminists endorse it. That's what makes feminism so hypocritical. Can't you se the light yet?

"I've also acknowledged numerous causes that I would support for women's rights".

Guess what, I've given to plenty of women's charities and I DO actually support any group that I feel needs supporting, regardless of who they are so long as I can see they are disadvantaged or facing discrimination. However, these days, I'm struggling to see where women are disadvantaged in this country. Perhaps you could enlighten me? Oh, silly me, I've already asked a thousand times for lists and don't expect to get them any time soon!

And please stop SHOUTING (!!!!!!).

I'm not, I'm EMPHASISING!

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 15/04/2013 23:45

Gosh, vadark just dismissing the TED video like that? Who'd have thought it?

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:49

Ha ha ha.

Oh, sorry, you were serious?

The statistics to show women are underrepresented in the media, government and boardrooms are irrefutable. Even Jeremy Vine said so Wink

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:50

FYI quote emphasis

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:50

"It appears it isn't anti-women enough"

But I'm not anti-woman. I'm simply pro-everyone. Unlike you.

"Curious why you ask about that."

Because it's hard to justify why you support women's rights and blatantly ignore men's. Because you do, and you know you do.

Do you care about all children? If so, how old does a boy have to be before you ignore his needs as a human being?

runningforthebusinheels · 15/04/2013 23:53

I think it's just easier for him to rant on and on, seeker.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 15/04/2013 23:56

Beep, beep, beep, sorry bullshit detector just went off again. Listen, there are more and more women working for the media these days and those women have a powerful say in what gets sanctioned.

Really? Is there an all powerful feminist panel that has the final say over what goes out in the media then? Well I never knew! Funny how they haven't tackled the very well reported and widespread misogyny there then.

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:57

"Gosh, vadark just dismissing the TED video like that? Who'd have thought it?"

Well, you dismiss everything that comes your way. Besides, I'd like to know how much money he's making from all of that. And why just end violence against women and girls? Why not support ending violence against everyone? That would go down far better in my eyes. Do men and boys not feel pain? Is it ok for your Son's to be victims of violence?

In general, as a boy, your Son is probably just as likely, if not more so, to be assaulted or be at the end of a violent act as your daughters. Why don't you recognise that? Is it because men and boys don't matter?

Vadark · 15/04/2013 23:58

"widespread misogyny there then."

What misogyny? Give me an example.

runningforthebusinheels · 16/04/2013 00:00

Here you go Vadark

seeker · 16/04/2013 00:01

I am so tempted to say what I think Vardak's solution to pregnancy would be. But I won't.

Anyway, Vardak. What specifically do you want me, seeker, to do to make life more equal for men. Specific, mind. Don't rant, or go on about how awful feminists are. What do you want me to do tomorrow?

Pan · 16/04/2013 00:04

"Do you care about all children? If so, how old does a boy have to be before you ignore his needs as a human being?" Hmm

Well that's me over and out with Vadark. Admiring other people's stamina and patience, statistics and acute critiques.
