So, what do you think it means for Europe?

Mandelson also says "closer fiscal union may require structural reforms inside the EU including a president for Europe, and national parliamentarians sitting inside the European parliament" and Blair has stated he is ready/thinking about a come back into UK politics.

claig · 07/05/2012 21:08

good points, those are all part of a single state.

claig · 07/05/2012 21:11

and Blair speaks French and will get on well with Hollande. The return of Blair, he wants to reengage Smile

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:12

Minimaths, oh no, well it was kind of enevitable, most of our power was signed away by Heath and then Blair anyways. Once there is a EU PM, the Palace of Westminister will be redundant when it comes to being able to make any laws, and on the same level as a local council. It is no wonder they were pushing for City Mayors all over the country! Old Blair will be pitching for EU PM then!

Great point about the City Mayors. I never did understand what the point of that was.

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:15

We had the same idea there about Blair Claig!

OP posts:
claig · 07/05/2012 21:17

Yes Smile. And there are mayors all over France, so maybe it is common on EU countries. Has Germany got mayors?

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:20

Was there a reason given for the delay in counting the London Mayor votes?

OP posts:
claig · 07/05/2012 21:23

something about a power cut I think but didn't take much notice

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:25

I noticed they were delaying counting the London Mayor votes, I was surprised no one was making a fuss about it, like it was ok to leave the votes sitting around.

"A lot of people were puzzled about what German Chancellor Angela Merkel meant when she recently stated that the ultimate solution to the financial crisis in the EU would "mean more Europe, not less Europe". Well, now we are finding out. A leaked internal German government memo entitled "The Future of the EU: Required Integration Policy Improvements for the Creation of a Stability Union" actually proposes the creation of a "European Monetary Fund" which would be given the power to run the economies of troubled European nations. This "stability union" would be quickly followed by the creation of a full-fledged "political union". Essentially, this leaked memo proposes the creation of a "European Superstate"

minimathsmouse · 07/05/2012 21:27

Jean Monet, father of the EU, had a vision of Europe's future in 1952, and he said that Europe's nations should be guided towards the superstate without people understanding what is happening. This can be accomplished by successive steps, each disguised as having an economic purpose, but which will eventually and irreversibly lead to federation.

claig · 07/05/2012 21:29

Yeah I saw this in the Mail two days ago, but didn't take much notice. It mentioned superstate.

This is from teh Mandelson article and it uses the word "re-engage" which is what Blair says he wants to do, and Mandelson was Blair's spin meister. Maybe "ree-ngage" is the new spin buzzword?

'Mandelson is one of a group of Labour politicians who believe the expected election of François Hollande is a chance for Labour to re-engage with Europe.'

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:30

They also want people to ask for it, and to use scare tactics of an unseen enemy terrorists, when they needed Ireland they didn't want the IRA so they used Alqieda (sp?) instead as the bogey man!

Did you do know Blair/Clark and Balls have all attended builderburger meetings?

OP posts:
LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 21:33

Sorry I left off Mandleson from the builderburger list.

OP posts:
minimathsmouse · 07/05/2012 21:40

builderburger, yep, I knew Blair had attended meetings.

Queen Beatrix of Netherlands is a member claig, just as she is a member of the Rome group.

claig · 07/05/2012 21:43

Yes, that is not surprising because most bigwigs would attend meetings of the powerful like that. I guess the Bilderbergers want to get to know people.

EdithWeston · 07/05/2012 22:36

I saw on the news that he leading party in Greece (my apologies, name eludes me) has failed to form a coalition.

The prospect of a second general election edges nearer.

LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 23:00

They better do another election, and not go with the smaller nazi parties

OP posts:
LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 23:01

I have never heard of the Rome group, who are they?

OP posts:
LadyWithEDS · 07/05/2012 23:10

The club of Rome, I had a bit of a google on that, they brought out a book saying that to bring people together, they need a common enemy Osama bin Laden!

Who is "scapegoating" the vulnerable? Cuts have to be made, that doesn't mean the people affected by the cuts are the ones to blame for the cuts having to be made.

WasabiTillyMinto · 08/05/2012 07:52

Greece is overspending by 10% per year. For the Greek people to say they 'dont want auserity' is just denial. Who is going to fund this gap?

NB one of the parties that got 7% of the vote is much further right than the BNP.

And a weak coelection, of inexperienced politicians with differing agendas is going to be terrible for Greece. They won't even be able to agree on what to offer Merkel in return for the money they want. How's that going to work?
