This is the problem with UKIP - for every good idea that you feel that you could get behind (getting out of the EU, pro-business, low taxation), there are half a dozen ideas to make your teeth itch.

They strike me as being how the Tory party might have been in the 60's and 70's.

I will be voting UKIP as my first choice, and for the assembly elections, with Boris as 2nd choice to keep out Ken.

Parts of the UKIP manifesto are truly ridiculous but I like the idea of encouraging Boris to be less wet - to try to get him to act more like a small-c conservative.

He should be actively supporting the £26000 benefits cap instead of campaiging against it. He should be cutting council tax far more than he has done. He shouldn't boast about the "investment" he has managed to wrangle from central government (which just means higher central taxes rather than local taxes).

UKIP are now beating the Lib Dems in the national polls, despite being denied coverage by the BBC on Newsnight debate etc in favour of the Greens.

It would be good for British society (and also for the Conservative party) if UKIP became a more permanent part of our national political fabric.

UKIP aren't racist. Being against the EU isn't racist.

The BNP and Respect are the main racist parties in Britain.

I would prefer to vote Conservative rather than UKIP, but with wets like Boris and Cameron in charge there is no choice.

I used to think Theresa May was doing a good job - but she can't even deport Abu Qatada.

Michael Gove and Iain Duncan Smith are doing sterling work, but that is despite Cameron, not because of him.

Britain needs more small-c conservatives into positions of power, whether they are Conservative, UKIP or even New Labour like Alan Milburn. If that means giving a few wet Tories a headache, then so be it.

Oh UKIP are not outwardly or obviously racist - but statements like this from their website:

Plus the constant reference to Britain for British people are a bit of a giveaway.

UKIP have several excellent ethnic minority candidates including this postmaster who refused to serve customers unless they spoke English.

Lawrence Webb (UKIP candidate) sounds like a bit of a plonker even on his UKIP homepage, but that's not the point.

UKIP need to be elected - not for their own sakes - but because it is the only way that the Tories will ever grow a spine.

What sort of Tory do you like LFN, one that clicks his heels and salutes? Grow a spine, what a strange thing to say, do you want them to become less representative of the vast majority of the electorate?

What do you have to say about their policy for children with special needs, or with disabled adults 'longfingernails*

Because he is either a not very bright or a not very honest person. He promises to do things which are far, far beyond mayoral powers:
cut VAT on many things
fight EU red tape
get a tighter grip on immigration
Well, if he really wants to do that he'd better try becoming an MP or something, not a mayor of London.

I strongly oppose Green party, but to be fair - even their candidate looks like she knows what she is talking about.

Look at him, he wants to set up "5% VAT for beer and cider" and have "zero tolerance on anti-social behaviour" at the same time.
