Politics

I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

Nnnngggghhh - I find saying that a person with epilepsy is an 'epileptic' is more offensive than frothers BTW...having epilepsy is a part of me, it doesn't define me by making me an 'epileptic'.

Mumcentreplus · 29/11/2011 22:27

I am now officially a Twitter Frother...

CardyMow · 29/11/2011 22:31

Ok, right. You lot have all persuaded me to go on twitter and froth. Can someone explain Twitter to someone who doesn't know what Twitter does, in words that are not techy? And then can they talk me through how to do it - as I am technologically inept, have never even looked at Twitter, never mind used it. Blush.

BestIsWest · 29/11/2011 22:34

Marking my place for a bit of frothing tomorrow

FuckYouGideon · 29/11/2011 22:36

I've come to join you. I'm fucking insanely furious with all this. I didn't vote for the fuckers.

I've had to namechange as I have a politically restricted local government post which means I'm not allowed to show any public support for a political party.

Osbourne is an odious cunt of the highest order. I know he's laughing into his expensive port about the fact he's making hundreds of thousands of public sector workers redundant. The whole thing is ideological and the deficit is a total excuse.

The NHS. They're privatising the NHS. Who wants their health run by someone who needs to turn a profit? Look at America. Bevan will be turning in his grave.

Pickles and Shapps are screwing up the planning system every which way they can. There will be no planners left if they don't bring in local fee setting. The Localism Bill and the NPPF are a joke. It will be planning by appeal again like the 1980s. Nothing will actually improve or be more efficient, in fact it will be quite the opposite. But Barratt's shareholders will be lining their pockets and that's all that matters.

Women are being attacked in every way possible.

They just don't care. In fact they're enjoying it.

KateMiddIeton · 29/11/2011 22:41

You can use twitter in one of three ways

  1. To read what others are saying/keep up with news. You follow people and what they say appears in your "timeline" for you to read
  1. To say things (in 140 characters or less!). What you say will appear in the timelines of those who follow you. It can also be found by searching it you have a public account.
  1. To do both 1 and 2 which allows you to chat if you want, a bit like instant messenger.

If you want to tweet a specific person you put their name at the front of your message eg @twittername this is a message. This message will only show up in your followers timelines if they follow both of you ( avoids half conversations).

If you want to make your tweet easily searchable add a hashtag like #frothers this means people can search for all tweets with #frothers easily.

You can retweet what people say by selecting the option on the bottom of a tweet.

To be fair, FuckYouGideon, you could hardly be described as showing any public support for a political party in that post.

I normally don't bother frothing because it's bad for the blood pressure and doesn't achieve anything but I might make an exception just for the next 5 minutes.

FuckYouGideon · 29/11/2011 22:49

I know Auntie but it could be extrapolated to include not slagging a particular party off either. I just want to be careful as my job is extremely precious to me and the last thing I need in the current climate is to be hauled into a disciplinary or worse for slagging off Gideon on MN. I'm outed on my usual moniker.

Mumcentreplus · 29/11/2011 22:50

I agree with you Gideon, the look on that mans face says it all smug prat..you can see he's getting a kick out of it all...

Mumcentreplus · 29/11/2011 22:51

You are not alone Gideon, I just posted something on Twitter I'm worried about..

Auntiestablishment · 29/11/2011 22:52

Similar here re job. sigh

HedleyLamarr · 29/11/2011 22:52

AnyFucker that was happening to me too. I had to enable JavaScript and then clicked on a fuckload of few random things and it worked.

Mumcentreplus · 29/11/2011 22:54

gah...

AnyFucker · 29/11/2011 22:55

< scrubs the word "epileptic" from my brain bank >

Mumcentreplus · 29/11/2011 22:56

but then the tweet wasn't a lie hehehe...and actually not directly aimed so....

AnyFucker · 29/11/2011 22:56

Hed ...you don't say ?

it's not just that I am thick then ?

northernmonkey · 29/11/2011 22:59

Please if it comes across that I am being arrogant, because I really am not meaning to (headache from essay writing)..
But what will twitter do?
Can us getting a trending on twitter really make a difference?
Like i said earlier, I am very naive when it comes to politics and really do not understand them but I honestly think we need to get to the core of the problem here. The Con-Dems need to get out, and we need a new general election. Is there a way us, at the public can stand up to this government and actually tell them we are not happy?

FuckYouGideon · 29/11/2011 23:00

Mumcentre I deleted my Twitter account after getting my politically restricted post.

I have to be careful on FB as well, one of my best friends speaks massively insightfully about political issues and we used to have fab discussions. Can't do it anymore and I practically have to sit on my hands when I see his latest well crafted missive and the baying twats he swipes aside.

My boss and I were absolutely laying into the Tories this afternoon. But it was in the privacy of his office and any disciplinary pressure would come from above him.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 23:01

oooh AF i had troubles when i tried twitter before on safari and this time i did it on firefox and it's all far clearer - maybe there are browser issues or javascript as someone else said?

you're all going to fast.

there is no way i can cope with mn, facebook AND twitter - i'm behind on all 3 and i should be sleeping.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 23:02

i don't know northernmonkey. not sure how it ties in with a vote of no confidence. there really should be a way to do that.

northernmonkey · 29/11/2011 23:05

It is a shame, because it is us as the public who are suffering and so is our country.
We have no say in what goes on and I'm not sure we ever will while they are in power.
There should be a way we can stand up to them and tell them we want change

CardyMow · 29/11/2011 23:10

I seem to have managed to create a Twitter account. Now how do I FIND people?

CardyMow · 29/11/2011 23:11

I am technologically crap inept, and I only joined FB in order to keep an eye on DD. I rarely go on FB, and only to message family abroad.

AnyFucker · 29/11/2011 23:12

I can't get my Twitter to work at all

I have given up

adamschic · 29/11/2011 23:14

We have to wait until the next election but I know that they will start retracting on some of the policies that hit the people they want votes from e.g Selling council houses, this sort of thing keeps them in power because let face it it's all about 'I'm alright jack'.
