niceguy-
Well, we were talking about 'respect'. You asserted that one of the reasons for the rioting was a general lack of respect for authority in society. I said that respect had to be earned, it can't be just assumed.
I asked you: What do you do when MPs act in a way that means they don't deserve you respect, but in fact, deserve your contempt.
You said that if they do something to lose your respect, you should vote them out.
In the next couple of posts, you (or someone) brought up the Parliamentary expenses scandal. You said: "They're all at it" (meaning MPs from all parties).
I then asked you how you squared this with your previous assertion about 'voting them out' if they no longer deserved your respect. In other words, how can you maintain respect for such institutions when they appear to be all corrupt, and you have no established ways of changing them?
What do you think?
