swc - the term 'cunt' is reserved for people who are cunts. There's a few.

Tortington · 01/08/2011 19:15

Tartydoris "As for evidence of nepotism in the public sector, I know of several entire families all working for the same PS organisation. How on earth can that be allowed to happen?"

i don't know several entire families, nevermind several who all work for the same organisation.

Nuclear familes, and in one case 3 generations. If you don't think this is nepotism, I don't know what to say.

Scarletbanner · 01/08/2011 19:52

And James Murdoch would be in charge of BSkyB if his name wasn't Murdoch? Of course there's no nepotism in the private sector...

OL is making a mistake trying to demonise public sector workers who are generally well respected by the public. For a start, how many private sector workers have parents, children, spouses and partners working in the public sector? They're not going to be taken in by this rubbish.

AwesomePan · 01/08/2011 20:17

Tarty - I simply don't believe your assertions re nepotism. The public sector spends public money, for which we have to be very accountable and transparent over. REcruiting policies are very tightly observed, monitored and justified. IF one person works in a particualar PS organisation, they will have an advantage to explain and 'coach' people they know. PS recruiting exists in a very rarified atmosphere, due to the need for accountability.

Au contraire in the private sector where, in the words of the song, 'anything goes' - so family members are given jobs through nepotism and 'looking after their own. This is widely understood.

Your premise on this, as with all of what you say about the PS is a load of politically-loaded, ill-informed pile of bollocks.

AuntieMaggie · 01/08/2011 20:22

"The truth is, most of them would be unemployed if their jobs were axed, or stacking supermarket shelves at best."

Really? Well most of the people I know who have lost their jobs due to the govt cuts have got good jobs in the private sector.

And what's wrong with stacking shelves? I do that every year to make extra money for xmas!

AwesomePan · 01/08/2011 20:32

of course the other thing is that a recent study (only a couple of weeks ago) indicated that PS employees are much better qualified and expereinced that their private sector counter-parts.

FWIW, it's my expereince that people leave the PS due to the pressure of work, relatively low pay, lack of resources to do the job to a standard they aspire to, and the level of 'complaints' they receive from a (rightly) empowered customer group, and the general crap they have to put up with from the ill-informed wider media/public. Even the best-motivated individuals can crack under this weight of expectation and the demoralising effect of being someone's whipping boy/girl.

Many of them treat the public with whom they come into contact with absolute contempt
Could also be said of any number of workers in all areas of the private sector. Including lawyers.

My grip is fine, swc. Your crappy, small-minded arguments are not. No insulation from the 'real world' - you need to open your eyes a little.
And there is every reason to make 'it' personal, as you are with me. But I stop here. Internet table-tennis isn't the way to go.

Scarletbanner · 01/08/2011 22:26

So private sector lawyers think that anyone who has left their brutal little world behind must only have done so because they're crap or can't hack the pace. Hmm Or maybe you just feel threatened. Hmm

You're still talking crap anyways.

And the private sector lawyers I know ( the top ones) have a lot of respect for the top government lawyers. You must just mix in ill-informed circles.
