I for one would love to know more about these cushy, well-paid public sector jobs with gold-plated pensions everyone is banging on about because I'm definitely in the wrong department/level/universe.

Oliver Letwin reportedly agreed to repay a bill for £2,145 for replacing a leaking pipe under the tennis court at his constituency home in Somerset, which he had claimed on his parliamentary expenses

No discipline there then

But no doubt when this greedy greedy man has awarded all contracts to the private sector there will be nothing in the contract they need to fear and there will be no need for discipline by the directors when they award themselves their bonus payments and their pensions

I would love to see politicians who come out with this type of twoddle lead by example. Many public sector workers work hard, are dedicated to their work under increasingly difficult circumstances trying.to do their best for the public.

Oliver Letwin for example is a tosser.

he wants to come and try spending a day in some of our shoes before spouting such stupid and reactionary crap.

Nasty tories at their nastiest.
Isn't Letwin meant to be a tory wet as well.
I'm a public sector worker and can't work any harder than I do or care more than I do (at present, due to LA cuts) I am working much increased hours to the detriment of my family just to keep our service running.
I hate the tories so much - wonder what Camoron will have to say about this from his £9k a week holiday let.
Bastards

They have always been bastards but these ones are sooooo patronising to anyone who isn't 'one of them'

From my experiernce of some public workers, they are lazy and need a kick up the backside, not saying all mind, but particularly in social services.
Saying that I believe that politicians need some time and motion carried out on themselves! I think the days of great pensions and a public sector that thinks it has a cushy job for life are over.

PS. Why should Cameron not have his £9000 holiday, he paid for it didn't he? Unlike Blair and freeeloading wife who took any hol that was offered!

oh those days have been over for a long time my friend and blair was not friend of the public sector either - so dont make the mistake of thinking -labour = for the people, we have been screwed for a long time by tory wannabe's with false smiles and true tories.

and sure - if you pay nearly 10k for a holiday and pay for it out of your own money - thats fine

but its fucking shameful when your preaching austerity measures to the bastard nhs my friend

Yes because there isn't enough fear in the public sector already with everything thats happened.... Hmm most of us are scared for our jobs and working our asses off for this govt at the same time as having to reapply for our jobs and work around a mass of retrictions on everything we do.

Am I right in thinking that MPs' salaries are paid by the public purse? Making them 'public sector workers'? And Letwin is an MP?

Report

Personally I thought it ridiculous IMO that Cameron flew Ryanair/Easyjet, because of austerity measures, it does not undo the need for the measures does it? Does Obama fly the equivalent of Easyjet? When he takes a holiday? No he does not. The PM has a social standing and it does not look good to other countries that he travels economy on one of the worst/crap airlines around.

Also security issues would need to be taken into consideration, I don't think he could stay at some of the hotels I've stayed at in Benidorm, and feel safe. Grin

I'm sure I'll get flamed but in my younger days a lot of my friends/ family worked in the public sector and with a couple of notable exceptions they were lazy sods who probably averaged two hours work a day. To name and shame they were all office workers within the DWP.

'Tis often the subject of fond memories when complaining about the week they had (now private sector).

My sister worked at the MOD and said she had never met a lazier lot! Why should they not be? They couldn't be sacked, had a job for life, so worked as little as possible.

my sister ~( i don't have a sister i;m making this shit up) told me that people are dying becuase the nhs hasn't got the staff who are qualified enough, and the resources to deliver excellent patient care. that they are drowning in red tape and target setting/reaching.

my cousins dog told me he was a policeman and he got paid 7.32p a day

^^ an anecdote is not evidence.
I have worked in the public sector all of my adult life with the exception of about 4 years when I first started working.
I have NEVER felt that I had a 'job for life' - what is this notion? I have always performed over and above what has been expected of me. Does this mean everyone else in the public sector does? No, thought not. To use one person's negative experience to generalize the whole sector is to show utter ignorance.
I worry that there is general confusion about what the 'public sector' is.
I would be flamed if I suggested that every self-employed person/small business were tax cheats because they can claim the cost of their cat food on their company books or accepted cash in hand for jobs.... but the ones I know do.
This government has done a very good job of dividing this country. The public sector has an important role to play. Anyone would assume that there are no poor practices/individuals in the private sector.
Just to be clear, I do not earn a kings ransom, I cannot look forward to a gold plated pension and I live in constant fear of the next restructure that will take place in our service (and there will definitely be one. I know because we have just been through one 18 months ago so it is due).
And to suggest that Camoron is entitled to his very expensive holiday because he earned it is ridiculous. He is preaching that we are all in this together and that, Ironman, is simply not true.

What's wrong with Benidorm? I'm sure Cameron would have enjoyed himself much more there, than a boring holiday in the Tuscan Hills. He might find himself intellectually stimulated though in Tuscany, as he may meet Polly Tonybee, who has a villa there (she would not go near Benidorm, full of prols)
Nowt wrong with Benidorm.

Custardo, have you thought about putting your cousins talking dog into a travelling show? Or perhaps entering him/her into the Guinness World Records? Just a thought, as it's a sure- fire way of making extra money.Smile

I have worked in the Public sector all my working life and a times I have been in amazingly busy areas with no time to use the loos and there have been times when I have been bored silly because there is not enough to do. On balance I have been busier more than not and quite high pressure technical stuff to keep me awake at night.

It saddens me that people think we are all lazy fu**ers. I have also worked with people who have been incredibly hard working and have been highly educated and could have worked in the private sector for a shed load more than they get now but they do it because they want to serve their country. I kid you not. I guess you won't believe me but it is true.
