Since I can't find the original thread where Claig makes the comment that there is no such thing as a crazy Daily Mail reader.

Claig is the gift who keeps on giving.

Here is the link:

Grin very funny.

'Democracy: Tory Government.'

There is one problem with the dictionary. There is no entry for the widely used new political term - "progressive".

It is natural for progressives, litterati, chatterati and Guardianistas to try to attack the people's paper. They do so because they are not for or with the people and are angry that the Daily Mail most certainly is.

ttosca · 04/07/2011 19:56

Haha - 'The People's Paper'! :)

Like I saidm, claig... you're the gift who keeps on giving...

There are lots of missing entries. Nothing on the socialist bin police, a weak description of global warming, and nothing on climate catastrophe. Too close for comfort for the chatterati.

claig · 04/07/2011 20:06

LFN will love this one

'iPlayer: Internet application created by Marxists at the BBC which allows real-time video streaming of Russell Brand & Johnathan Ross to millions of unsuspecting victims. iPlayer's bandwidth requirements are so large that experts fear its continued use will break the Internet. Yet another reason to get rid of the TV tax.'

Unfortunately for the litterati, they created the dictionary in jest, but were confounded to find that the people agreed with the entries. It turned out to be a progressive boomerang.

claig · 04/07/2011 20:10

There is some new thinking that I wasn't aware of

'Large Hadron Collider: Doomsday machine created by EU leftists designed to rip open a hole in the space-time continuum which would exterminate all life on planet Earth. However, it broke last year, so the end of the world is delayed until 2012.'

claig · 04/07/2011 20:13

'Think-Tank: A group or an institution organized for research and solving of problems, especially in the areas of technology or social or political strategy. A think-tank is found in two distinct varieties within the Daily Mail. A 'left-leaning' or 'close to Labour' think tank and a 'highly respected' think-tank. The former will will normally produce PC, wooly-minded or liberal solutions to problems. The latter will generally produce common sense solutions.'

claig · 04/07/2011 20:16

'Three R's: Reading, Royalty and Right-wing politics. Core skills which are no longer taught to schoolchildren thanks to the looney liberal PC thought Police.'

It's a veritable treasure trove of wisdom and profound political insight.

claig · 04/07/2011 20:23

'Wind turbines: Bird-killing machines of death designed to produce as little electricity as possible. Part of the conspiracy that stops the UK opening more coal-fired power stations to compete with other countries. See also Global Warming, Coal-Mining.'

claig · 04/07/2011 20:38

Disappointing that there is no entry for 'Winterval'.
The dictionary is nowhere near complete. Many nuggets are still to be added. I hope tha the OUP set up a committee to try and complete it. But it is a mammoth task that will take years to complete, as there is so much learning yet to be incorporated.

claig · 04/07/2011 20:45

It would require one of the country's leading professors, well versed in political thought, to do the task justice. That obviously rules out progressive professors, but the problem is that there aren't many of the others left anymore.

ttosca · 04/07/2011 21:44

Perhaps you could write a long section about 'Progressives', claig...

OP posts:
claig · 04/07/2011 21:55

will start work on it ttosca. But that in itself is a mammoth task as there is so much to say to try and describe what they are all about. It may turn into a voluminous book and even that will only tell half the story.

claig · 05/07/2011 07:53

Thanks, kayah. Another very funny list.
An amusing one that I haven't come across before, for the BBC, is

The British Fraudcasting Corporation

complimentary · 08/07/2011 15:20

No. Claig the BBC is the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation! Grin

claig · 10/07/2011 08:36

good point Smile

tinkypoo · 10/07/2011 15:15

Thank God for the Daily Mail....the loonies who hate it do so because in the main the paper writes sense! Cant start the day without my Daily Mail!

thereiver · 14/07/2011 01:44

spot on tinkypoo the guardian/independent readers tend to be sheep wearing blinkers they are led along seeing only what they are allowed they are incapable of free thought

fannycomp · 14/07/2011 09:21

thereiver. The guardian has a lot of power for a paper that has a poor circulation and that most people in the country don't read. How many times have they had the editor of the 'Sun' for instance asked to read the papers, by the BBC at night? Hardly any I can remember, yet the editor or assistant editors of the guardian are regularly 'wheeled out' to speak on various issues of the day. The BBC must keep records of who they ask onto programmes, be interesting to see those records. The BBC IMHO is not representative of the views of the majority of people in this country anyway.

fannycomp · 14/07/2011 09:48

claig 'Three R's: Reading, Royalty, Right-wing politics. Core skills which are no longer taught to schoolchildren thanks to the loooney liberal PC thought police. Claig you forgot a fourth thing that has long ago vanished in the curriculum of children's life at school respect for older people, now as an adult you have to earn it!

ttosca, says you a 'gift that keeps on giving' thank god that there are millions of gifts like you around the country! Fortunatley for you, you're thoughts are like the vast majority and not a minority!Grin

claig · 14/07/2011 18:24

I like to think so Wink

LostMyIdentityAlongTheWay · 01/08/2011 21:01

Have a fair few of you been let out on day release or something?

Christ on a crutch, it's good to know that the mantle of Norman Tebbit will be inherited and continued when he shuffles off his mortal coil...

mathanxiety · 04/08/2011 17:59

Well when are we going to see a definition of 'progressive' then? I get the impression it means anything to the left of Patrick Cosgrave..
