...Liberal Democrats election leaflets!

After last years general election a few long standing Lib-Dem councillers left the party and joined forces to be an independant party. they are very well known in our town and well respected.

On thursday, whilst campaining one of the councillers got hold of the lib-dems campaign leaflet. The Lib-dem candidate for our ward was made out to be an experienced council member But this was to first time he has been a candidate.

So now a complaint has been made to the electrol commission, returning officer, the Lib-dems and the police by the independants, the Lib-dems are claiming is was just a simple mistake.

Is this just them being bad losers or could this mistake have influenced people? I didnt notice until i saw it in the news just now.

You have to assume that if something appears in official literature it's going to influence people. Typos you might get away with, but misleading or (in this case) untrue statements are fairly serious. I think the councillors are right to complain, even if it doesn't affect the outcome.

I can see why people would be upset, i think the labour councillers have now also complained. Do you think we could be heading to the polls again? or could the lib-dems just be fined. I havent heard any more about it since yesterday.

Lib Dems always play dirty. Everyone interested in politics knows that - but up until recently, the general public always thought of them as a nice but basically useless place to park their protest vote.

As misleading information goes, claiming 'experience' where there is none isn't quite as bad as, say, claiming an opponent is a holocaust denier or... as the appalling Phil Woollas did... that they support islamic terrorism. A re-run is unlikely, therefore.
