C&P from CIF

Seems to be about right

George Osbourne is incompetent, because he is following a path that is leading to stagnation or possibly recession and will not change course. A competent worker or professional is someone who recognises failure before it causes a disaster and changes course in advance.

There can be a couple of reasons for this incompetence, one is a deeply ingrained indoctrination with neoliberalism that runs so deep the person cannot see its pitfalls (like Thatcher who was famously not for turning), and the other is a self serving obedience to his own wealthy class.

It is difficult to see why Osbourne gave a tax heist to the banks and reduced corporation tax when he has been so "concerned" about the deficit. The trouble is, that his only concern is trying to make the poor and middle classes pay for the deficit in terms of the loss of local services, the NHS, education and jobs, so that he can continue to give his rich friends tax breaks.

I think Ed Balls and Ed Milliband should read Nicholas Shaxsons book "Treasure Islands" which explains how off shore secrecy juridictions are undermining our democracy by depriving us of tax revenues, and how this devastates developing countries. Well, it is clear that Osbourne is doing nothing about this, and this would surely help the deficit without making the rest of us suffer.

Link? Always nice to read excerpts in context.

Earthworm - it looks like another random Guardian 'Comment is Free' post. Newwave likes to cut and paste them here. Not sure why - it's not like MNeters can't generate their own leftie rantsGrin.

Yes, the tax breaks and the rich paragraph strikes a chord. I was reading the other day about farm subsidies, and that's another example of you and me shelling out to support people who have it very jammy, thank you very much. Some of the richest landowners in the country, eg the Duke of Buccleuch, get support from 'us' in the form of farm subsidy to the tune of several MILLION pounds per landowner per year.

Subsidising squillionaires should have been axed aeons ago.
