Plus a generous expense account no doubt but compared to greedy shits like Diamond it pales into insignificance

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 21:57

diamond? am spitting feathers, it's crazy

And do you know exactly what they do?

What professional qualifications they have and how they much they would earn in the private sector?

It is very easy to knock the public sector- many could earn much more in the private sector- work less hours- pay less into pension- have private medical cover- get bonuses- have company cars etc etc

Gottakeepchanging · 19/03/2011 22:00

And no-one in local government has generous expenses!

lovecorrie · 19/03/2011 22:01

Well, at least he/she isn't posting on MN 'AIBU to think £190K is not enough to live on?'

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:04

i work for the private sector and my job providing after school clubs has gone, and yet i am meant to be happy with this!!

GKlimt · 19/03/2011 22:05

This will turn into another public services bashing thread Sad

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:06

so it should!

i've lost my job that does so much good, yet the tories have cut it!

sorry i don't want to roll over and accept it

OP posts:
Gottakeepchanging · 19/03/2011 22:12

Southeast..

The reason your job was cut was because the central government funding through the gssg was stopped. Thayer is not the fault of local government. The councils are getting all the blame for closing nurseries, oos clubs, childrens centres however these were centrally funded via grants. The grants have stopped. It is central government to blame not local councils.

GKlimt · 19/03/2011 22:14

.......blaming the local services is exactly whar Eric Picles et al want you to think!!

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:14

but we have a large reserve and we were told the counci had four years to make the change

OP posts:
GKlimt · 19/03/2011 22:15

that should say 'local authority'
and Eric Pickles
Oops

newwave · 19/03/2011 22:16

Gotta, is right you know, it's (mostly) down to the Tory filth in Parliament.

What political complexion is the council

Gottakeepchanging · 19/03/2011 22:17

It doesn't work like that. It would be negligent to utilise reserves to just defer an issue.

newwave · 19/03/2011 22:18

Pickles is a nasty piece of Tory shit with all the decency of a rabid dog and the compassion of a weasel.

A Tebbit for the new century.

Gottakeepchanging · 19/03/2011 22:18

Some of the conservative councils are having to make the biggest cuts. New funding is deprivation weighted and they lose most overall.

edam · 19/03/2011 22:20

I do think chief exec and director salaries in local government are ridiculous but equally agree spending cuts are down to national government slashing grants to councils. Not just that, but front-loading them, so councils have to make massive cuts right now, in the hope that by the time of the next election we'll all have forgotten.

If you want to worry about taxpayers' money ending up in fat cats' back pockets, there's a very long list of people besides council chief execs. Bankers, of course, but also Serco, Group 4 and Crapita, for starters.

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:20

yes cause they saved so much - yet they aren't using the savings to save jobs!

it's so corrupt am flipping mad

OP posts:
PatientGriselda · 19/03/2011 22:21

I'm sorry you have lost your job, southeastastra, but that doesn't mean that £190k is an unreasonable salary for the chief exec's position.

AuraofDora · 19/03/2011 22:21

sea
sorry about your job it's shit and this is shit too
we are in the shit, and if it's not them its the others its loads and loads of shit

newwave · 19/03/2011 22:22

Gotta

Some of the conservative councils are having to make the biggest cuts. New funding is deprivation weighted and they lose most overall.

Not so, Liverpool is having the largest cuts whilst Tory Dorset and the Shires are escaping the worst of it. The cuts to councils are politically motivated and biased.

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:23

i think its unreasonable

OP posts:
newwave · 19/03/2011 22:25

edam, Serco has taken over many services and it's chief executive stole earned £4 million last year.

NO TO PRIVATE PROFIT FROM PUBLIC SERVICES

Gottakeepchanging · 19/03/2011 22:27

Newswave. That isn't true. Many of the shires are worst affected as a proportion of grant income. Education funding ( and this includes oos ) is more heavily targetted on deprivation which is why shires have lost so much grant.

southeastastra · 19/03/2011 22:29

it's corrupt
