newwave - where do you get your statistics from that 50 people have died in police custody? This would imply that police officers have killed 50 people and covered it up. I personally have known cases where people have died in police custody but for a variety of reasons such as ingesting huge amounts of drugs before being arrested, ill health prior to arrest etc etc. What time frame are we talking about? The PCA can take years to investigate anything so don't hold your breath about them releasing information,

Thanks for the kind words dotnet! The new discipline regulations also mean that if an officer fails to take action against a colleague who is acting in a criminal manner or one against regulations, they too can be disciplined. I do think there is less of a culture of protecting the bad apples.

yelloutloud - we don't get paid overtime for working every Sunday. Just the ones that are our days off. I am sorry that your pension has been lost although I don't know your individual circumstances. Why are the police responsible for this? We currently pay 11% of our pay towards our own pension soon to be 13% in 2012
