Charities are taking the brunt of the cuts...

My dh works for a large charity which is now making over 3/4 of staff redundant over the next few months. The contracts have simply stopped being funded and local authorities are either axing services or taking them in-house. This is not just one charity - dh says most are facing cuts and redundancies of one sort of another.

His charity works with vunerable people and families and makes a huge difference to their lives. They pick up a lot of work that social services don't do which therefore won't be done when these services end.

Surely this goes against everything that has been spouted off to us about the 'Big Society'? It would appear that Local Government is looking after its own highly paid staff and not continuing to fund services and front-line staff.
