Well worth reading. It says what we all know, but it is good to hear it from an insider

Wow, I never realised this. Shouldn't a publicly funded organisation be impartial? Why on earth aren't there more copies of the Daily Mail at the BBC? Is it because it tells the truth?

I now understand why Labour does well at election time, even though the majority of the British public choose to spend their money on right wing newspapers.

Al Gore a saint? I'm starting to feel faint; progressive I ain't.

UnquietDad · 22/01/2011 15:10

I thought this was going to be about

kerstina · 22/01/2011 15:11

Well i would say he is a Tory and so has obviously had a chip on his shoulder.
I think if the BBC has a slight left bias SO WHAT when we have a right ring bias from every other angle ,the murdoch press, Sky news included. Thank god for channel four! I actually think BBC is neutral as a viewer and not somebody working in it. Do you remember when they refused showing an appeal for Gazza after they were being bombed ?

longfingernails · 22/01/2011 15:14

The point is we are forced to pay for the BBC, effectively. If you don't pay the licence fee you can't watch any number of non-BBC channels, and furthermore, thugs come round to harass you with the threat of £1000 fines.

We choose to pay for anything else we watch.

There is no one truth - it all depends on your perspective, as PS knows very well.

I used to think that all doctors had to be left-wing, and teachers too, because that was the nature of their jobs. However, not any more.

The BBC is forever getting slated for being biased one way or another. I thought Panorama's recent coverage of the Health Changes was unfair - too pro-government - just in the language they used and the people they invited to participate.

I think it's very likely that the BBC is becoming more right-wing, and that would be because it is clinging on to its license fee and needs to curry favour with the Condems. Also, the more highly it pays its presenters and executives, the more likely they are to have right-wing views.

However, we need to be very careful when we criticise the BBC. Some of its programmes are second to none imo, and I would hate to see it disappear. We would find the replacements nowhere near as good.

claig · 22/01/2011 15:19

What's it got to do with the BBC whether Gazza is drunk or not?

claig · 22/01/2011 15:21

'There is no one truth'. That's patently false. What about the Daily Mail?

Hammerlikedaisies · 22/01/2011 15:22

I am happy to pay the licence fee, and agree with kerstina.

Hammerlikedaisies · 22/01/2011 15:23

Daily what? Smile

You might be happy to pay the licence fee. I have no issue with that.

The point is in defending the BBC model, you want to force everyone to pay the licence fee. Given the far-left views of the average BBC employee, that is a serious problem.

I don't know about far-left. But if they believe that Al Gore is a saint, then I would say that they are far-fetched, farcical and far from the truth. I may have to be more critical of their global warming coverage. Fifty days to save the planet? can't really be true can it?

claig · 22/01/2011 15:56

I think I'll turn to the Daily Mail website for my news. At least it's far from the madding crowd.

Ninjacat · 22/01/2011 16:02

Surely in essence a nationalised TV station is a left wing concept?

claig · 22/01/2011 16:07

Good point. But is the NHS left wing? Labour would like you to think so. But it is a service for all of our people, paid for by all of our people. It's neither left or right. The same when we had nationalised railways and water companies and any other nationalised industry. They all belonged to the nation. The nation is neither left or right.

claig · 22/01/2011 16:09

sorry, "neither left or right" should have read "neither wrong nor right".

Kerstina. As others have pointed out you HAVE to pass the licence fee. If not you can end up in prison.

The BBC is disgustingly partisan, it only support the left, and has virtually no coverage of another shite organisation the EU.

The BBC (like politicians) do not project and put on the news the stories that the viewers would like to see. ( on the EU for instance)

It must have been noted by other viewers that the Bastard Ed Balls was allowed a full 5 minutes party political broadcast, when he was meant to be speaking about the resignation of Alan Johnson. Angry

The BBC is a law to itself, and the BBC should lose its licence. It is meant to represent everyone. As Sisson's says even the reporters/those who work at the BBC are frowned upon if they are right wing.Or dare to read any other paper than the Guardian! Disgusting!
