Tube Union parasites want to strike on Royal Wedding Day

Why?

Supposedly, the tube drivers want 3 days pay for every bank holiday they work, plus a day off in lieu. Absolutely ridiculous.

It is high time we had a mass sacking of RMT and ASLEF members. No, we don't need 20 useless RMT staff saying "this train is about to depart" or "move right inside the carriages" on the platforms. Automate the trains, like they do in so many other countries.

And there are plenty of people who would be glad of the (rather easy) work, at half the salary and perks.

LFN. Why don't you take a rest if you are on holiday? Or is the politics section of MN 'your holiday' Grin

ilovemydogandMrObama · 10/01/2011 16:52

LFN, you are very confused about signalling systems.

Describing a worker as a parasite is offensive.

If one wishes to discuss the power of unions, then fair enough. If one wishes to discuss Bob Crow, then fine, nevermind that it's: 1. An ASLEF proposal 2. Hasn't even been balloted yet, but shall we put those facts to the side, I am of the belief that it's the lowest form of debate to resort to name calling.

longfingernails · 10/01/2011 16:54

I think this is the most interesting time for politics since the 1980s.

I get the impression that we are at a crossroads - Britain will have to choose whether it is a fundamentally conservative country, or a fundamentally socialist country.

I would actually join the Tory party, and maybe even try to become a local councillor - except as far as I can tell, it is a totally thankless task - not to mention, their sellout on matters European disgusts me.

I didn't call the workers parasites - I called the unions parasites.

"LFN. Why don't you take a rest if you are on holiday? Or is the politics section of MN 'your holiday'"

Don't forget there's also a Big Society out there that needs selfless volunteers. Or are right-wing diatribes on MN considered part of a Big Society service these days?

imright · 10/01/2011 17:01

Ilovemydogandmrobama. If you don't like name calling you should not be on this site! I don't agree with it either, but on here it's done directly to other MNs. LFN only does it subjectively to those 'working' driving tubes, although if any tube drivers are observing this 'offensive' diatribe he/she should speak out! Grin

ilovemydogandMrObama · 10/01/2011 17:05

You're right. I shouldn't be on the site.

midnightexpress · 10/01/2011 17:05

Do councillors not get paid enough for their highly skilled decision-making for you LFN?

Go on, run for office, then we can all come and throw eggs at you.

imright · 10/01/2011 17:11

Go on LFN run, not as councillor, but as PPC in the next election! I would not throw eggs at you, I would vote for you! Grin.

midnightexpress. 'highly skilled decision making' you give councillors a lot of credit! Councillors, I find could not normally organise a piss-up in a brewery! let alone make skilled decisions!

midnightexpress · 10/01/2011 17:19

Sounds as if LFN would be perectly qualified then imright.

longfingernails · 10/01/2011 17:19

Sadly I think you would have to be crazy to run for any kind of elected office in this country.

The first thing people think of is to throw eggs!

Sad though it is, the only way to make a difference without ruining your life is to get involved in "community activism". I help out with various local bodies, but would never in a million years even dream of becoming an MP. It seems like the most thankless job in the world.

LFN talks more sense than most PC politicians, but then people like LFN don't go into politics!Grin

Droppedinit · 11/01/2011 10:39

you do know that 'the union' is workers don't you?

Butterbur · 11/01/2011 10:53

I bet Tiredemma doesn't get 3x normal pay plus time off in lieu for working bank holidays either.

I can't believe people are defending £45k pa etc for driving a bloody train! What planet are you all living on?

chibi · 11/01/2011 11:02

A tube strike on the royal wedding day- how awful Shock

come on mnetters, can we not organise a fundraiser so wills and Kate can get a minicab?

LadyBlaBlah · 11/01/2011 11:46

It's like a Socialist's wet dream - a strike on the day of an enforced nationalist celebration, a Royal wedding Smile

Shame it won't actually happen and this is just the right wing press getting their knickers in a twist and whipping up some 'divide and conquer' rhetoric.

LadyBlaBlah · 11/01/2011 11:49

BTW the 'around seven weeks' of holidays includes the 8 bank holidays.

25 + 8 = 33 - about standard everywhere afaikn

David51 · 11/01/2011 12:08

imright
the tube drivers are paid 45k to drive a train, you know why? because they can strike and hold us to ransom.

If they can 'hold us to ransom' why don't they demand £1 million bonuses as well? After all that's what the bankers are doing and the government are letting them get away with it.

Seems to me the tube drivers are missing a trick, if anything

LadyBlaBlah · 11/01/2011 13:05

Sorry David, apparently being a banker requires talent and skill so that is where the difference lies Hmm
