cuts - Wednesday's Spending Review

Brace yourself ladies - these cuts are big, there will be tens of thousands of public sector redundancies and it's said (by the Fawcett Society amongst others) that they will disproportionately affect women.

Some workers will get some sort of payoff, and some will be pleased to go. Some will find new jobs.

But I reckon the overall effect (licks finger and holds it in the wind) will be to drive down women's wages, meaning that once you are made redundant from your public sector post you may find more work but it will be at a lower rate and the extra competition for jobs across the board will drive wages down across the board. This may be true for men as well but I think it will affect women - mums - more.

If you are watching the press coverage on Weds, what do you think the effects of the cuts and the job losses for women (and mums) will be?

hallowgesse my nt dd will probbaly die by the time she is 30-40 tops but for her i dont need the dla she mostly just needs the normal care that a 7year old does

she does not need expesive equipmet or hrs of physio ot social care that my disabled ds does so for her i dont claim but i do for ds , hmm let me see was told today that splints he needs that help him walk theres a 4-6 month wait on the nhs and since its been 8 weeks already till got seen hes already losing the little ablity he had to walk indoors i have no choice his dla will pay for them so he doe snot get worse well not yet as in end he will lose that ablity totally

your telling me he does not deserve that extra money extra help your telling me a 6year old doe snot deserve right to be able to walk even a little that makes you a cold hearted bitch and hope you never ever have to face that choice

LaydeeBlahBlah · 20/10/2010 19:38

I'm sorry to hear that your child was ill HalloweeseG - truly.

But that doesn't excuse your comments - as said, your child got better - mine is autistic and will be an autistic adult. I don't consider that the state should pay me to look after him - it is my job and I take full responsibility for it. I do expect, however, that when I am no longer around to do this (and he will probably be about 40/45 if I'm lucky to live that long) then who the feck will take over from me?

Yep, the state (if there is one left)and to make sure that happens, I would rather pay more taxes than cut public spending and services.

PhlebasIsShrieking · 20/10/2010 19:38

ISNT I imagine they'll spend their later years alone, unloved & sat in their own shit; they aren't the kind of people who'd encourage compassion in their children after all.

(off to do an occupational therapy session with ds now & begin the 3 hour bedtime routine - hopefully he'll be asleep before 11pm tonight because he'll be up again at 3am & I have paed appointment at 9:15, would like my wits about me - just a normal part parenting).

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:39

MaMoTTaT

its ok i dont believe all parenst with nt children believe or agree with the stuff thats being spouted on here .

Just sadden me that some do , remeber when you step on squash someone on the way up were the ones that catch you on the way down .

Becuas eif your ever ill or your child is were the ones your going to turn to to ask us how to do the best for your dc

Halloweese

See your son got medical care and help and im glad he did Never wish ill on any child no matter his parents belief .

But i bet you used the nhs then the drs the nurses the drugs your son needed , yet your deny my child the same right to live his life the best he can

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 20/10/2010 19:41

but roundthebend4, you do realise that having funding to help your DS walk means there's no money left to cut the IPT hallow has to pay on her private medical insurance?

Priorities.... [hgrin]

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:41

yes saw that posted to

To those claiming that it's not the Government's job to help the most vunerable in society, can I ask you what you think the purpose of government is?

beucase remeber that when your child is ill and in need of help your chilod is vunerable he needed help from the nhs and he got the help

HalloweeseG · 20/10/2010 19:43

Phlebas, I can categorically assure you he WAS definitely entitled to DLA.

I also said that of course disabled children should receive financial assistance.

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:44

lol hubbly ,

no see since ds cant wait as he be unable to walk at all by time nhs could do

she would approve as im paying out private not the state , mind she say well state is since your using money they gave you for him.

curious did you us ethe nhs for your son when he was ill Halloweese?becuase depending in what was wrong let me tell you now he will never get medical insurance when hes older as has pre exsisting condtion even though was cured

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:45

erm but just not their parents as every parent will spend there whole life looking after there dc way beyond what you would for nt child and trust me i know I have 3 other dc and the care ds needs is worlds apart

LaydeeBlahBlah · 20/10/2010 19:50

halloweese, have you forgotten that you said 'they are not the government's children'?

Doesn't that mean that you don't think the state should contribute towards their extra needs?

threetimespink · 20/10/2010 19:50

:othose who cannot take care of themselves are not left to starve to death or freeze on our streets:o

all those 8 million cannot take care of themselves?

starving and freezing to death?

each of them looking after two disabled children?

Where did you just fall from?

Moon?

Between keeping everyone warm and fed (or overweight) and surrendering to Nazis in the WW" this NATION choose to stay hungry but free

Are we still a nation?

Or just a country of entitled benefits claimants waiting to be overrun by one of the emerging superpowers

Or who cares as long as we have our sky, coronation street and footie with rooney (or hang on...)

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 20/10/2010 19:54

threetimespink, yes, I'm fresh from outerspace, so please indulge me and explain your repeated use of the 8 million figure.

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:54

no but sometimes theres a few in our so called great nation who are heartless and dont give a dam about some of the most vunerable in our society what great example there teaching their children

.Not to care who you tread on long as your alright .and your dc might well remember that when your elderley and lonely and need care but hey mum were not helping becuase you told us we dont need to care

mrsbaldwin · 20/10/2010 19:55

Just got in from work (where I have been too busy cutting to be able to look at MN - ha!). Sitting down to read the whole thread so far.

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:56

3times pink

No one is saying that there is not some people that do swing things on benefits

but stop taring everyone with same brusg becuase there are far more that are just keeping their heads above water or do you believe everything you see on the news or read in the paper

threetimespink · 20/10/2010 19:57

Some of us on here actually have a job to do

Do your own research

I am off to work to make sure you lot don't starve or freeze to death

usualsuspect · 20/10/2010 19:58

Just ignore ttp ..sounds like a wind up to me ...nobody is that thick surely

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 19:59

well 3time pink do my own research i live it so think that puts me miles ahead of anyone that just reads about it

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 20/10/2010 19:59

Ahh, as I expected, plucked from your arse.

usualsuspect · 20/10/2010 20:01

what??

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 20:02

no hubbly shes talking out of it Wink

becuase everything in the papers that you read is right init dont you know us spongers know that already or quick its on the tv so we got to believe it

MaMoTTaT · 20/10/2010 20:02

god you really are a bit dim aren't you ttp??

Do you understand that people who work on low wages claim benefits too?

Or that the some people can't work due to caring for SN children (or adults), or because of their own disability?

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 20:02

not you usual TTP

hubblybubblytoilntrouble · 20/10/2010 20:02

sorry usual, I should've made it clear that post was in reference to pink's 8 million figure [hgrin]

usualsuspect · 20/10/2010 20:03
