Email/phone your MP today: tell them to vote AGAINST EU budget increase tomorrow!

The EU seems to be unaware of the financial crisis. It has awarded itself huge increases in its budget!

I would much rather see the EU budget cut than national ones.

There is a vote on the EU budget tomorrow. Tell your MP to vote against any increase, at the very minimum!

I would slash the EU budget by 95%, personally.

If it was up to me , we would not be in the EU AT ALL! Or giving them 45 million a day!
Will email MP to ask him to vote against this budget increase, let you know how he voted.

For a long time I thought that "in the EU, not run by the EU" was possible.

However, the recent behaviour of the Eurocrats has hardened my view. I now think we should get out.

I think there is a website where you can find out who your MP is, if you're not sure, and email them. Can't remember what its called though, does anybody know?

To all. I suppose you all know that you can visit Brussels and see what your MEP does not do, I've been invited on number of occassions but always had to decline, I've been told they are totally undemocratic and do bugger all, (and that was from an MEP!) must take up the offer. Smile

SweetnessAndShite · 12/10/2010 14:40

Do we need to contactv MP OR MEP?

complimentary · 12/10/2010 14:50

sweetnessandshite You need to contact your MEP, I believe your trip is subsidised by the taxpayer! You wont have to pay for all the costs.Grin I shall get more info and get back to you later on this thread.

longfingernails · 12/10/2010 14:56

No, it is a House of Commons vote tomorrow, so you have to contact your MP:

"To approve an EU document relating to the Draft Budget 2011"

services.parliament.uk/calendar/#/calendar/Commons/MainChamber/2010/10/13/events.html

Contacting your MEP telling them to cut the EU budget is useful too though.

LongfingernailspaintedBlue. I thought the poster was asking about trips to Brussells. Of Course CONTACT YOUR MP. Do you fancy a trip to Brussells? apparently MEPs can claim up to £363.000 a year without ever giving any receipts. According to 'Open Europe' a think tank. Great job if you can get it!Grin

Have just contacted my MPs office and was told the following by the researcher. My MP will be voting for the budget increase, along with the government, because it is part of the Lisbon Treaty. If apparently they don't vote for it, the country will have to pay penalities to the EU. Very democratic I must say!

longfingernails · 12/10/2010 16:56

Thanks complimentary.

That is disgusting. Labour's betrayal on the Lisbon treaty ranks amongst the most traitorous things they ever did.

They sold Britain out.

Absolutely right. Not much one can do about it now, unless we leave the EU, and guess what, if this country decided to leave the EU, they would be heavily penalised financially. I believe it would take place over a two year period, would have to check this out with my MP friend. It is possible to leave the EU as another country did just that, can anyone enlighten me on what country actually left?

complimentary · 12/10/2010 17:42

Just a footnote. If you think you are paying a lot to the EU now dream on...it will be considered a small amount, as many poorer countries have now applied for accession to the EU, the number of people in these countries, makes up some 152 million.

Countries seeking entry to the EU are; Croatia,Macedonia,Turkey,Albania,Montenegro,Serbia,Bosnia&Herzegovnia,Ukrain,Belarus,Moldova. In total 152 million people.

ongfingernailspaintedblue. If you don't want a budget incease, you have not seen anything yet, as although these countries will have to make contributions to the EU, the richer countries will have to support the poor.As said, we can little about these budget increases, as this country is now subordinate to the Lisbon Treaty, and the treaty enables the EU to act as a state in its own right.

scaryteacher · 13/10/2010 00:01

I think you may find that Albania is already in as my dh worked with Albanian military officers at the EU.

The EU is wasteful. The fonctionnaires and the clerical staff were so incensed at the thought of not getting their pay rise this year that they were going to take the Commission to court, and were going to strike. Brussels would still work very well without them.

I think we should just come out of the EU. I can't see what they would do to make us pay anything in that case. If we leave, we are not subject to EU law, so they can't make us pay, as their courts have no jurisdiction.

What really sticks in my throat is the amount of money that the Kinnocks and Mandelson have received from the EU (Mandleson currently gets about £8k per month to tide him over from being a commissioner until he gets another job), whilst preaching socialism to all the rest of us. Some are definitely more equal than others comrades. That's where the waste is.
