are you happy with how you voted?

i currently work in the nhs and am about to go into policing within the next month. 2 areas that are about to get axed massively.

are you happy with how you voted? i am the only one in my household and in my workplace who feels i was true to my beliefs and is still happy with how i voted.

are you still happy or do you think your were duped?

i voted labour and i would again.

Hopefully the changes to constituency sizes (so that they are more equal in size) and the 10% reduction in the number of MPs will screw Labour for a fair while.

Going further and making Scotland independent would ensure they never have a chance to ruin this country again.

slushy · 18/07/2010 12:00

I voted Labor glad I voted Labor gutted Tories got in and I will vote labor again. I think we were due a recession they come around every so often and I don't think any party would have avoided it. I also really don't like the areas Tory have chosen to take money from.

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/07/2010 12:50

to the person who said what is the point of this thread - what is the point of you asking? whats the point of any thread?

i asked because i nearly voted lib dem and would have been utterly livid by now if i had.

i asked because now we have had some of the fastest U turns in policy, i wonder if people still feel happy with their choices, given that education and the NHS and policing are being cut. i asked because i can still see Dave saying "we will not raise VAT" mere weeks before the election. i asked because i still remember the posters from the lib dems demonising the 'evil' tories....before they decided to get into bed together to give themselves some top jobs.

i think its perfectly legitimate question to ask if you are still happy with who got your vote, given the changes we are undergoing. if you dont want to answer then dont. simples.

I voted labour in a conservative stronghold so I knew my vote wouldn't count but simply couldn't vote any other way.

the day after the coalition was announced I joined the labour party.

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2010 14:25

niceguy - they do have a choice though and to make people on low earnings pay for the bankser bonus is not a "we don't have a choice thing" the troy goverment could get tought on the bankers - they could change there contracts within three months to say no bonus - they say that iof they do this the bankers will get other jobs - i would like to know where the other jobs are - as there aren't any in this country or others for bankers.

So I say to this goverment stop and look at the people pulling money out of public business - as that is what bankers are in sa lot of cases - and stop them getting rewards for failing

the tory goverment choice is to let the bankers get away with it and make other lower earner pay.

it is like saying to a naughty child who has not worked and failed his exams - that sok we will give you a hugh bonus and those people that past there exams will have to take a pay cut and have vat rises so we can pay for all the things that the last useless teacher did (disclamer I don't thing teachers are useless )

GabbyLoggon · 18/07/2010 16:51

I would still vote Labour. I am not happy with the CONDEMS. ALL IN IT TOGETHER? Give over,
impossible in a country as unequal as ours.
People at the bottom willget bashed. Middle classes, reduced incomes.Toppeople ? Hardly
touched at all. The government are as trustworthy as my dodgy computer. Be patient,
please with me.And thump HMG(That rhymes)

Good luck with the struggle

yikesascorpiobaby · 18/07/2010 16:57

Voted Green, ended up with a right little tw*t of a Lib Dem, seat went to LibDems after many years of Labour.
Sitting Labour MP was unappealing as a person but at least was a LABOUR MP.
Feel like my vote was a bit self indulgent and can't wait for Labour to get back in round here. Susect many others round here have come to that conclusion. Predict the Lib Dem will be out on his arse as soon as we all get the chance to vote (Labour) again
Of course, it will be too late for our jobs and services by then....

BarmyArmy · 18/07/2010 17:15

Venetianred - I think you meant "imply", not "infer". "Infer" is what YOU did...i.e. it is passive. "Imply" is active.

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/07/2010 17:42

i understood what she meant BarmyArmy. there is a corner of the board for pedants. its called pedants corner.

I voted lib dem in safe tory seat. Am not happy with proposed cuts in education or free schools. It would appear the education policy being followed is purely tory.

The idea of a graduate tax is wrong and will lead to a brain drain from the UK. There should be fewer people going to university and then tuition fees wouldn't be necessary or at least would be lower.

I don't like the sound of 2 yr courses and everyone going to their local uni either. This is the type of system in France and having spent a year at a french uni I would say the standard was not as good. There was also no university life as everyone lived at home.

I don't think labour did the right thing either..far too many people going to university devaluing qualifications.

University/higher education was much better in the 70s and 80s.

I'm not particularly happy with current govt policy but there is no way I'd consider voting labour. They did not manage the economy well and chanelled most of the money to schools and hospitals in labour heartlands leaving hospitals in other (tory areas) to fall apart. The new hospitals/schools they built were funded through PFI which will end up being very costly.

The current gov seems not to want to tax the baby boomers any more or means test their benefits but is happy to squeeze whatever they can from middle class families. If labour had got back in they would have probably done the same.

I might do a green protest vote next time.

LilyBolero · 18/07/2010 18:38

No, I voted LibDem, because I stupidly believed that they first of all had principles that they would stick to, and second of all, was told BY OUR LIBDEM CANDIDATE that the only way to 'keep out the Tories' was to vote LibDem.

I will never vote for them again. I will always vote Labour.

LilyBolero · 18/07/2010 18:42

BaggedandTagged - I actually think the LibDEms have lost credibility. They threw their principles away as soon as they had a sniff of power.

VAT - 'the Tory VAT bombshell' said Nick Clegg. But then, they changed their minds. What a surprise.

Uni fees - Clegg, along with most of his party, signed a pledge to OPPOSE any rise in student fees. But the terms of the coalition that they have agreed to mean they can not do this, they may only abstain from any vote.

What is worse is that they have signed up to a budget that targets women and the poor. This is not the LibDem party that campaigned prior to the election. It is an offshoot of the tory party.

KimberleySakamoto · 18/07/2010 18:54

Conservative through and through. Would never even think of voting differently. I'm not into tactical voting, so would always vote Conservative - it's a matter of principle. Conservative MP won our marginal seat. So, yes, I am overall happy. I've lost a freelance (government) contract as a result, but tbh, it was money that needed saving. I'm amazed the work was there in the first place, as it really, really was a waste. I liked being paid, needless to say, and will struggle without it - but I'm glad to see that particular work go for the greater good.

Freelance contract aside, I was feeling very bleak about the future. Now I'm not.

Butkin · 18/07/2010 19:26

Glad I voted Conservative. Would have preferred them to have had an overall majority but the coalition seems to be working well enough and I'm pleased with all the sense they are talking. They are being tough to get our economy back on track and I can cope with that. Sooo glad to have got rid of Gordon and that awful, wasteful, nanny-state, Labour Government.

2old4thislark · 18/07/2010 19:43

agree butkin voted Tory in a safe Tory seat so my vote hardly made a difference though.

Tories are in a minority on MN. Think the survey on MN just before the election had the LIB DEms getting 50% of the MN vote

I read the free bus passes were changing to 65 from 60 which seems fair to me.

ArcticRoll · 18/07/2010 20:02

Voted Labour-would vote Labour again, got a Green MP.
The coalition government's plans for health, education and welfare mean that the poorest sections of society will bear the brunt of the cuts.
Yes there need to be some cuts but they should look at increasing tax revenues by increasing taxes for those on higher salaries not target the poorest sections of society.

Woobie · 18/07/2010 20:14

Torie here too!!!
I'm totally gob smacked at the number of people who believe Labour were / are /would be good for this country. That idiot Brown sold our gold for a ridiculously low price, when we really didn't need the money, he totally wrecked our pensions & go this country into a worse financial state than it has been for soooooo long! (well, since the last blooming labour govt anyway!)
I am a public sector worker & will be in the band of the most "affected" earners, but I would rather loose a little & try to see the "Great" in Great Britain have a meaning again, than leave to country to go to the dogs under Labour (or the Lib Dems, who just don't cut the mustard full stop.)
Good luck to David Cameron, He has probably the most difficlut job over the next 5 years & will become the most hated man to so many, but he obviously cares about this country.

FellatioNelson · 18/07/2010 20:22

I voted for Dave, but I like Nick and Vince, so yes, I was happy then, and am still happy now., I can't imagine I will agree with everything that's about to happen over the next year or two, but as I see it we really have no choice.

CloudDragon · 18/07/2010 20:44

voted labour got labour (though hated doing so because of Iraq)

have friends who voted lib dem and are kicking themselves

most tories are probably rubbing their hands together, but will be soon remembering how truely terrible the hospitals and schools were in the early 90s, unless of course they can afford to go private in which case it explains why they voted how they did in the first place.

willowk · 18/07/2010 20:48

I voted Lib Dem and would do so again - in fact, I said prior to voting, that my ideal outcome would be a Lib-Con coalition so I'm quite happy.

Any government would have had to make cuts, the only real difference was when.

The over-riding benefit of the current government however, is the safeguarding and freeing up of civil liberties and the emphasis on responsibility over rights.

My personal favourite change is the scrapping of contact point and the horrible thing that would have been the CAF assessment - I no longer have to worry that my child's finger prints will be taken or that they will be assessed without either my knowledge nor permission.

Oh and I say all of this as a parent and public sector worker who will be worse off as a result of the economic policies - I just think I would have been worse off under Labour - even if it wouldn't have been for another couple of years.

SanctiMoanyArse · 18/07/2010 21:08

'Labour ruined this country and those moaning about the Tory cuts are forgetting they have no choice.

True

However there's one thing knowing that nad having options, and another knowing that when the only way out of dependency is handing your kids over to foster care.

In all truth I don't think people who can get a job have a clue how it feels right now.

My DH works; only aprt time since the redundancy but it's something: I can't imagine how it is to be a single aprent of a disabled child right now, or sick.

SanctiMoanyArse · 18/07/2010 21:10

(true about the cuts; under Labour I knew I could have a home next eyar)

Cookie79 · 18/07/2010 21:14

I voted liberal. Made my choice would do it again, now I guess I have to live with the consequences.
