TACP. It isn't wrong, he has left you with no choice. May God support you in this.

Well, for the first time, I was able to go to the Maundy Thursday Chrism Eucharist at the Cathedral. Everything was fine, until the Bishop talked about God setting his seal on us, and I thought that was a bit vicious of God, as all I could envisage was this:

vicious looking seal

My literal mind again!

DutchOma · 01/04/2010 14:45

I just knew what I would see in that picture Mary

MrsCadwallader · 01/04/2010 17:23

Mary

Reminds me of the Christmas Day service a couple of years ago when OH and I spent most of the service with our fists in our mouths, kicking each other and crying with giggles after the vicar lit the 'Four Candles' of the advent crown, and OH whispered in my ear "fork 'andles?"

But you had to (a) be there and (b) be conversant with the Two Ronnies!

TACP - love and prayers for you, still.

MaryBS · 01/04/2010 17:39

LOL MrsC, I remember that sketch from the 2 Ronnies!

I think the worst fit of the giggles I ever had was straight after a Good Friday service. We were all supposed to leave quietly, having just gone through the Passion story, so in a fairly sombre mood.

As I walked out, I went past the stand that normally held the Paschal candle, and it should have course been empty. Except it was FULL of figures out of the Nativity set that lives in the children's corner. It was SUCH a mix of Christian traditions, I was trying to be serious, but practically ran outside where I ended up crying with laughter, and the more anyone asked me what was up, the more I couldn't stop laughing! It was SO embarrassing!

MrsCadwallader · 01/04/2010 17:53

Ha ha!

I often have trouble keeping a straight face during our (very middle class, very CofE) services, thanks to this sketch

I'm fairly sure God has a good sense of humour though, so I think we're ok!

BlueEyeshadow · 01/04/2010 23:10

I'm intending to take the boys to a Good Friday workshop at a church we haven't been to before - ours is having a trad reflections on the cross this year. Be interesting to see what it's like.

Then after that we need to launch into preparations to go to MiL's for Easter and then on holiday to the Isles of Scilly with my parents. It's a huge logistical operation and has rather caught us unawares so I don't feel ready at all. I'm pinning a lot of hopes on this holiday for rest and recuperation so lots of prayer is needed!!

That we'll manage to get there in one piece, that we don't all get on top of each other too much, for a calm crossing - it's infamous for seasickness which wouldn't be fun with the boys, for good weather so we don't go stir crazy, for DS2 to sleep well enough to have an evening or two out while we've got babysitters on tap... Hmm. A bit of a shopping list really. Sorry to go on and I hope it's not too selfish.

Will keep praying for people on here while we're away.

amberlight · 02/04/2010 08:23

Dear splendid people of prayer...Well, something's happened at work that I can't handle, and dh is stressed out and not feeling well which is a huge worry after what happened to him last year, and I've got to get through a 3 hr service today in a church I haven't visited for many years without making myself look completely stupid n front of senior clergy or upsetting anyone else and I'm hoping and praying that it'll all be OK.

Praying for each of you, too.

DutchOma · 02/04/2010 09:27

Amber The Lord is with you. He is not going to go anywhere away from you today or ever

madhairday · 02/04/2010 09:43

Amber, sending some hugs, and praying for you, like DA says God is with you.

Love the seal thing Mary, lol! Also like the fork handles thing, great sketch.

Taking the kids to a very wet town centre this morning for good friday drama, puppets and reflection thing church is putting on. In fact must get on and go.

Roslily, that is fantastic news, so glad you are feeling closer to God.

TACP, continuing to pray for you.

Hermya321 · 02/04/2010 11:22

Guys, I am praying for you all but I could do with some myself at the moment.

Me and Dh have looked at our finances and we're really going to struggle to make ends meet at all this month.

I'm getting really fed up with this, God keeps taking us to the edge time and time again and I just can't this trip anymore. My DH needs a job, a permenant job not a temporary job that will get taken off of him but a permenant one. I can't do this, we're trying to trust in the big dude but its so so hard.

It's like a cycle, DH will get a job we'll start to pay back overdraft and build up savings then he'll loose it and we'll be right back to where we started from. Only this time, God had the great idea to throw a kid into the mix which just makes this that much more stressful.

Please pray that DH gets a permenant job and really really fast. I can't do this again, it's just beyond what I can cope with.

teaandcakeplease · 02/04/2010 12:05

Hermya - hugs and prayers for peace and provision for you

Phillipians 4:13

JentlyDoesIt · 02/04/2010 18:13

Hi all,

Praying with renewed vigour for you all today.

I took the DC's to a "Free Church" today (usually I attend the local CofE quite high church) and it was brilliant. They had a puppet show from the Chiine Theatre co who aimed the Easter message at the kids - was a bit heavy in places but the kids loved the music and the dancing and the story telling etc. I felt really inspired in there which was lovely

ZipadiSoozi · 02/04/2010 18:41

Herm.. - prayers for you, we are in the same predicament, (not literally) money wise, we just get going and something happens, its as if God is showing us how to manage without money! yikes tall order! erm slight miscalculation though, we have to EAT!

Nevertheless, we have had a lovely Good Friday, I invited a lady who is the carer for her grandchild, to our Good Friday crafty type of morning at church, her grandson is 2.6 and a little rebel, there was Easter Garden soil everywhere, upturned Easter cakes etc etc etc, please God take care of this family, reminds me of when ds1 was that age, (I'd forgotten) bless him I showed him all the stained glass windows of the diciples and there is a Lion under 'Mark' well the said 2yo was oinking like a pig, (in prayers) hence my dc giggling into there hands, and he was also singing Beach Boys 'Barbarang' such a sweetheart

Thank you God for my dts good behaviour, I do take it for granted!

Alot of the churchy people came to us to say how they'd missed us. Whoops, bad soozi.

Sorry that was a long chatty post! hope you have all had a Good Good Friday! roll on Sunday!

MaryBS · 02/04/2010 19:27

Would welcome prayers of comfort. Was very upset by something a priest said to me at a prayer labyrinth (not my own church/priest), ended up sobbing in the toilet - lack of understanding of Asperger's unfortunately. Anyway, I emailed her, explaining exactly how she made me feel, not so to make her feel bad - I didn't want her to feel bad, but so she could understand and walk in my shoes for a bit. Am absolutely exhausted.

Sending the email gave me time to recover for my own church service, which was INCREDIBLY powerful and poignant, really blew me away! I wasn't leading but I took a role in the reading of the passion. Got slightly carried away with the drama of it all, slapped my leg to create a slapping sound and said "Is THAT the way to answer the high priest"... just as someone turned my mike on (as it hadn't been on for my first line), so it echoed LOUDLY round the church .

madhairday · 02/04/2010 19:43

Will pray for comfort for you Mary. So sorry you felt so distressed. That kind of thing can leave you feeling so drained and exhausted.

Glad the service went well. We also had a powerful one with acting out of the passion and much drama. I feel very thoughtful and quiet tonight, if you know what I mean. But the dc don't seem to get that

Continuing to pray for you Hermya.

Jen and Soozi, glad you had good days, Jen the puppet thing sounds good.

PositiveAttitude · 02/04/2010 19:54

Herm - we experienced that for a number of years. I found it all soo hard. BUT God does always know what bills need paying and what is round each corner. We have some wonderful stories to tell about God providing for us. We were never let down, but boy, was it a scarey time!! You will get through this, with God. Rely on His provision. Prayers for peace and reassurance for you.

TACP - Prayers continuing for you and everyone else on here.

Thanks for praying for DD4 yesterday. It was a very long day, incredibly tiring and boring. Surgeon took her into theatre, but then discovered that there was a far bigger problem than he had thought, so just had a good look around, then closed her up. He has said we should wait a few years, then have a few major things done together. At least we are let off for a few years, but another biggy on the horizon.

Reading your stories of getting the giggles in church, when DS was younger he was asked to do a reading. he spent all week practising, but in the middle of it was the bit about "Welcome the aliens" well, all week the other dcs had been messing about by making alien noises whenever he read it out. On the Sunday morning, my proud mummy moment turned into embarrassment when DS got the giggles when he reached that bit, and nobody understood why our whole family was sat in shocked, embarrassed, giggles. He has never been asked to read again!!!

Have a good weekend everyone.

roslily · 02/04/2010 22:43

I have been given an NIV bible by someone and been reading it.

Can I ask for prayers for my ds? We has come down suddenly with a stomach bug, we spent time in walk in clinic. There is nothing to do bit sit out the D&v, but it is horrid to see him like this, and not be able to explain it to him

DutchOma · 03/04/2010 08:28

Happy Easter Saturday to everyone.
We are doing a coffee morning today, pray that many people will come.
Pray for Michael, who has firmly attached himself to the church and has been to at least two services. Pray that he will have a bath sometime...that would be good.

amberlight · 03/04/2010 09:39

Prayers aplenty for people.

Could do with some also for M, a teenage lad who's been a friend of our family all his life and who had heart surgery yesterday - still in intensive care...

MrsCadwallader · 03/04/2010 11:11

Many prayers for all - especially for M and all on here who need special care with their health, however great or small their need.

A small prayer of thanks from me this morning. My eldest two boys (7 and 5) finally had their first ever swimming lesson this morning. I've put if off this long, knowing that (if I'd taken them sooner) DS1 would have hated it and it would have put them both off for life. They were SO excited to be going this morning though and loved their lesson (though I think the teacher has her work cut out!) so thank you, Lord, for giving me the strength to follow my instinct and not be pressured into making them have lessons before I felt they were ready

We're going everday for the next 10 days (except tomorrow) so hopefully by the end of the holdidays I will have two boys who can at least confidently stay afloat.

DutchOma · 03/04/2010 15:23

Well done MrsC and dss 1 and 2
And prayers for you Amber and your family and your friend M
Our coffee morning went really well; we had loads of people, both church and community; people were impressed by how nice the church looked and one young man, Shaun, said he wanted to come and share in the service tomorrow, because he wanted his little girl to be brought up in the church. Thank you Lord.
Michael did not come while I was there.

Hangingon · 03/04/2010 16:18

Please pray for S. She's doing a PhD and is struggling with the effects of a stroke she suffered 5 years ago (you wouldn't believe it if you met her). She is finding writing particularly challenging. She's doing really well by all accounts (good response on work done so far apparently) but is still under-confident when it comes to her ability. She says it becomes a real stumbling block when she has to write something for review or assessment. Yet she is convinced that she is exactly in the spot where God wants her to be at the moment. Thanks.

(sorry fir being long)

ZipadiSoozi · 04/04/2010 00:29

CD - Hia chick

Mary - prayers for you, hope everything will iron out soon, glad you had a good service though.

DO - prayers for shaun and his little girl for them to rejoice in their new experience in church, plus for michael and indeed his bath

HAPPY EASTER!
JESUS HAS RISEN!

musicposy · 04/04/2010 00:35

Hi, could I join this thread please? I could really use some prayer right now.

Last week I had a miscarriage at just over 9 weeks pregnant. We had been trying for 8 years and this pregnancy was a result of IVF treatment which we really couldn't afford, just I am 43 and we were so desperate. This has been just the most terrible outcome for us and I'm really struggling to cope.

It would be fantastic to fall pregnant again and that would truly be a miracle for us, but if that can't happen then strength just to get through this would be good.

I will stay around and pray for the other people on this thread too. I should have come here a long time ago; maybe at the very least this awful time will be a catalyst to kicking my prayer life back into shape.

Thank you.

ZipadiSoozi · 04/04/2010 00:35

Mrs Cad... - I'm a swimming instructor, and you have done the right thing trusting your instinct, my ds 6yo still hates his lessons sometimes, so I never force him to go, glad your ds's enjoyed their lesson, children will only learn when they are ready, (through play) good luck!
