dh wants a wedding ring for xmas - he had his cut off 15 years ago - anyway this is v. much of a surprise to me.

dh is agnostic. so the blessing of the ring doesn't matter to him - mine is blessed

so do i go to back of church and ask priesty to bless the ring? dh isn't bothered and i don['t know if i am

i know its not important but any replies would help

confession is scarey.

i remember making things up when i was a kid becuase i couldnt think of anything

now it consists of " could treat the kids better, have bad thoughts about people"

I also have a thing about St Teresa of Lisieux...I even went to see her relics in France (not specifically but was passing)

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:15

LOL Kerry.
Do you still go Custy? I stopped when I was a teenager.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 23/10/2008 11:16

it wouldn't let me see them any bigger than the little thumbnail

JJ · 23/10/2008 11:22

Really? I guess I didn't think about it as having to do it as a child. Hope it's better now.

When I was little, a neighbour had a picture of Jesus with eyes that followed you. Creepy. We were Presbyterian and just had what a friend called "ducky shit" (wooden ducks and that sort of thing) around the house. Not as religious icons, mind you.

I have no idea what the ashes are about. I think I thought they were a different religion. Am not making myself look good here, am I?

aren't ashes the burned palm leaves ?
As I said,I'm very lapsed but bits still stay with me - I have a statue of the Virgin Mary (nice tasteful one), a card of St Teresa with a medal, a plastic child Jesus and a buddha in front of a very lovely triptych of angels which belonged to my aunt and above my desk a rosary and a Buddhist wheel of life thing - I mix and match my spiritual needs - it blends together quite well !

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:26

JJ I have no idea about the ashes either.
I worked in a catholic school once. Almost fell off my chair when all the kids got their rosary beads out in May and started reciting Hail Marys. They had been well trained in the art of the rosary and it whiled away many an hour for a young, often hungover NQT. They don't do that in my ds's school though.

yes morticia - me too, i have a standard cross in a none too prominant place in the living room

occasionally the kids hang their school uniform on it

in my car i have loads of those medals you buy at the back of church on a chain off my rear view mirror - and a palm in the shape of a cross - v. south american

A lovely Catholic friend gave me a St Gerard medal when I was pregnant with DD (following two miscarriages) and I carried it everywhere with me as it gave me comfort. When a colleague of DH's wife was pregnant, following the loss of premature twins the year previous, I passed him along to her.

JJ · 23/10/2008 11:45

Cool, thanks. I still feel a little unclear on the concept but think that's more my mental abilities than anything else.

IorekByrnison · 23/10/2008 11:50

What do you mean he had his cut off?

IorekByrnison · 23/10/2008 11:56

But yes I do think you should have it blessed. The rings are symbolic and therefore a bit magic, so the proper observances should be made. If yours is blessed his should be too. I would think.

Tortington · 23/10/2008 12:15

cheers IB, yeah i think your right
