dh wants a wedding ring for xmas - he had his cut off 15 years ago - anyway this is v. much of a surprise to me.

dh is agnostic. so the blessing of the ring doesn't matter to him - mine is blessed

so do i go to back of church and ask priesty to bless the ring? dh isn't bothered and i don['t know if i am

i know its not important but any replies would help

DH is a total non-believer but when he lost his wedding ring on holiday I asked him if he'd mind having his replacement blessed and he said yes, pretty much to keep me happy. Having had it done, he now says that he is very glad we did.

The vicar (sorry, a wierdy CofE here) did it after the service and didn't just bless it. He also got us to say that little bit of our vows again and me to put the ring on DH's finger. MIL (who was staying with us for the weekend) cried - bless, whilst I just felt odd stood there in my jeans.

don't forget Benediction

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:04

hee hee I like all that stuff as well. Specially the incense and the big candles. I still don't really understand any of it.

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:05

ashes on ash wednesday - how weirdo is that!

LilRedWGoreandguts · 23/10/2008 11:05

We're not too hippy. Still pray to the 'holy Catholic church' and it's been know for the odd bit of incense to be wafted. That being said, I haven't been for months.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 23/10/2008 11:06

Stations of the Cross were a particular passion of ours at primary school - we'd all really want to read the one where Veronica wipes the face of Jesus, don't know why

nickytwoooohtimes · 23/10/2008 11:06

Oh, yes, the ashes smeared on your forehead on ASh Wednesday are the pinnacle of weirdyness, aren't they?

Tortington · 23/10/2008 11:07

OMG me too what is it with veronica?

!

JJ · 23/10/2008 11:08

I've always wanted to try confession, actually. It sounds very therapeutic. And I like candles and incense.

LilRed, that's a lovely story and very sweet!

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 23/10/2008 11:09

I used to reinact Mass, complete with altar, rice paper hosts and a drop of sweet Martini...my long suffering great aunt was the congregation.

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:10

And all the blessed Virgin stuff is so kooky as well. My gran always had loads of scary pictures and paintings in her house. I would love some now just to freak people out.

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:10

Rosary beads!

Tortington · 23/10/2008 11:11

what a lovley aunt.

JJ - confession, as a child was torturous for me - for one thing I know they can see you through the grille and the other thing was trying to round up some decent sins to confess, because I'd never really done anything

nickytwoooohtimes · 23/10/2008 11:11

Oh and the saCred heart pictures - they are well weird.
Reenacting mass -

childrenofthecornsilk · 23/10/2008 11:11

Yes I used to try to make some up as well.

Tortington · 23/10/2008 11:12

omg those large statues and jesus picturs are fecking freaky. rhubarbs mum used to have big jesus sacred heart and virgon mary statues - even as a kid i thought WTF overboard overboard.

OP posts:
MorticiaAnnSpookington · 23/10/2008 11:12

We had an Irish/Italian family friends with scary holy pictures - the Sacred Heart behind bars and phallic light fittings with crucifix elements

LilRedWGoreandguts · 23/10/2008 11:12

I've always fancied confession too.

Tortington · 23/10/2008 11:13

dya know what is weirder than a virgin mother?

a man who stuck by her and believed her.

i always had mucho respect for Joseph.

nickytwoooohtimes · 23/10/2008 11:14

This is the same as mine

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 23/10/2008 11:14
