Mumsnet Christian Prayer Thread for late summer

It's quite amazing how quickly the time goes. Looking back over the past six weeks there is not much that really lights up apart for the birth of Oliver Benjamin on the 1st August to Mr and CaptainCaveman and Tom. Praise God that all medical intervention went well and that Oliver was born safely and is feeding well
We pray for two other expected babies: Myjobismum's which is expected at the beginning of October and Swaliswan's who only just confirmed the pregnancy. Pray that all may go well, bearing in mind her miscarriage in February.

The weather this summer has not been very good and a lot of us have been on holiday and have struggled to a greater or lesser degree:- Soozy, Podmog, Dumbledoresgirl, Amber and Mary (who is still away).
We give thanks that Mary was not seriously hurt after an accident on her bike; also for her church placement in an immigration reception centre. Nearer the time this will need much prayer.

We pray for Weegiemum who suffers with frequent kidney stones and who has the additional difficulties in obtaining adequate pain relief.

We give thanks with Myjobismum for a much better prognosis for the baby of a young friend. Initially it was thought that the baby might have to spend months in hospital, the baby will still need a lot of care but it is now thought that it will be weeks rather than months.
We also pray for Henry,(thanks to StickyJ who flagged this up for us) who has had operations and is still very up and down and for the baby of Mascarpone's friend in New Zealand who is suffering from trigonocephaly.
We pray for two other 'newbies' on the thread: longlegted and livvylouis.
We pray for Amber and Roseylea, Notquitegrownup and Notsofarnow, (prayers for dd, GCSE results and MRI scan results),Jentlydoesit, FAQ, Mufti and PandaG.
We give thanks with Marslady who managed to support the parents of two fatboys and twind, within the space of a week. we have seen real answers to prayer here.
We pray for those who have suffered bereavements: Onlyjoking, Evenstar and MartianBishop and we pray for Mummy2TandF on the coming first anniversary of her dh's death
Last but not least we hold up our own CaptainDippy who is still not in the right place healthwise and who is struggling in other ways as well. Lord, bring someone alongside her to guide her, support her, emotionally and practically and please Lord, make her aware of your loving presence.

We praise God for the ability to pray for one another in the certainty that He hears our prayers and deals with them in His infinite wisdom and compassion.

MJIM - Sorry, internet down yesterday, so many happy returns of the day for yesterday, my birthday carried on in to yesterday, had another lovely day, and of course the weather was beautiful.

Rev? fab idea, as you can guess, me not at church, family life so hectic, excuses, excuses, excuses, although did think about it this morning, (its the thought that counts) this thread is as far as I get to religion! so a sunday gathering would be perfect!... especially for us 'sitting on the fence christians'

prayers internet stays on today please!

Nanou1 · 14/09/2008 09:42

morning all. me not at church either and feeling really bad. were supposed to leave at 9 and we woke up at 10 to . my excuse is that we were all very tired and dd is still unwell. is that good enough?! actually i always wake up very early so i must have needed that sleep . still it was the harvest festival today; he ho
thanks marysb it is good to be back
rainy day here. have a good day everyone

Clockface · 14/09/2008 09:57

ModeratelyMitey, thank you for that link! Certainly woke me up!

Nanou, good to see you again! I was Texas Rose but then people kept assuming that I was American so I decided to name change (not that there's anything wrong with being American..) then I was Roseylea and now I am Clockface (Owing to the fact that I have a clock in every room of my house. I am a clockwatcher par excellence!)

Anyway, sorry about that long ramble. I need prayer - or rather my poor little ds (4 y o)does. Without going into too much gory detail, he has a really really bad eczema infection on his backside and had to be off school last week. He's been on a-bs which are just about finished but still hopping around in agony. Poor boy! I would really appreciate if if you could pray for a very quick recovery as he can't sit down or even stand up straight atm because of the pain he's in.

Dh and I have both got stinking colds as well which doesn't help, and dd is a bit fed up that she's the only one who's not sick. Contrary or what??!!

So as you may guess we are not at church today either. A "reluctant worshippers" thread would be great for me for times like this! I like the idea of little bitesize reflections / thoughts rather than an ongoing, meandering thread such as this. The theme could change each week - maybe follow the Lectionary if you are Anglican, Rev? (she says, making a huge assumption...)

Nanou1 · 14/09/2008 10:08

hi clockface , i like yr new name! re yr little one, try a bath with only water and cornflour in it. nothing else on the skin. apparently it helps a lot. try that for a few days and let us know. will add you all to my prayers .

Notquitegrownup · 14/09/2008 14:44

Hi all.

CF - after years of using various excema creams, and I once resorted to Sudocrem, and had a miraculous recovery. It might be worth a try. Sending special prayers too.

Hi Nanou! Welcome back.

Justabout - Reluctant Worshippers sounds much more fun than Thought for the Week!

I am working a lot this week, so may be able to lurk but won't be posting much.

God bless all.

MaryBS · 14/09/2008 15:34

I am supposed to be compiling prayers for evensnog for tonight... its BCP (old fashioned thees and thous) and last time I used old fashioned prayers. But when the vicar did it last time he used modern prayers - can't make up my mind ancient or modern???

In the meantime, Sacred spaces prayer for today is:

"I remind myself that I am in your presence O Lord.
I will take refuge in your loving heart.
You are my strength in times of weakness.
You are my comforter in times of sorrow."

Just thought I'd share... xx

aaarrggghhh Please pray for my screaming baby to stop screaming!!!! dh has lost the plot and I'm left 'holding the baby' - literally! He is screaming pretty much every time he has fed and just before he goes to sleep. Not sure if it's wind but ds1 had colic and O doesn't seem like he did, however, have started Infacol today just in case. Also not sure if its just him being fussy to settle down. Whatever it is, I would very much appreciate your prayers for myself and O to learn how to manage his tears

Generally praying for you all - it's about all I can manage atm.

CaptainDippy · 14/09/2008 19:32

praying we all have happy mondays tomorrow

MaryBS · 14/09/2008 22:38

Evensong went REALLY REALLY well! The almighty had done His work on my nerves as they were nonexistent! Had loads of compliments from the congregation! . The vicar being the vicar still found stuff to criticise, but only very minor things, so a good night really!

MaryBS · 14/09/2008 22:48

Anybody want to see/hear a really cheesy praise song?

Jesus is my friend

Disclaimer:
Apologies if you get the tune stuck in your head after watching

CaptainDippy · 15/09/2008 08:05

Glad you did the prayers nsfn Glad Evensnog went so well Mary

Feeling shaky this am, but DH working locally today, which is Prayers for me to feel more , please!

Clockface · 15/09/2008 09:15

is that what you meant, Mary? It was "Crown Him with Many Crowns". Well done for the prayers!

Praying for peace for you CCM, for the wee one and for your dh.

ModeratelyMitey - I didn't realise it was you! So sorry to hear that you had a rough day yesterday. I pray that today would be easier for you and that you and your dh will be able to find peace too.

Taking ds back to the doc's today - if I can get past the dragons receptionsists, that is! They don't like letting people see their doctor! Bonkers. I am also supposed to be at work (at the church) today so I am going to try to do as much as I can with ds in tow. He likes the idea as he loves the vicar and likes being the "token child" who gets all the attention!

CaptainDippy · 15/09/2008 09:50

Hope all goes well at doctors CF and that you get to see your doctor - our surgery is a bit bonkers like that too How does DS seem today ? How is his poor bot?

Clockface · 15/09/2008 10:01

His poor bot is sore! He slept through last night though, Praise God!

He is enjoying being off school just a leetle bit too much though, methinks!
