Mumsnet Christian Prayer Thread for late summer

It's quite amazing how quickly the time goes. Looking back over the past six weeks there is not much that really lights up apart for the birth of Oliver Benjamin on the 1st August to Mr and CaptainCaveman and Tom. Praise God that all medical intervention went well and that Oliver was born safely and is feeding well
We pray for two other expected babies: Myjobismum's which is expected at the beginning of October and Swaliswan's who only just confirmed the pregnancy. Pray that all may go well, bearing in mind her miscarriage in February.

The weather this summer has not been very good and a lot of us have been on holiday and have struggled to a greater or lesser degree:- Soozy, Podmog, Dumbledoresgirl, Amber and Mary (who is still away).
We give thanks that Mary was not seriously hurt after an accident on her bike; also for her church placement in an immigration reception centre. Nearer the time this will need much prayer.

We pray for Weegiemum who suffers with frequent kidney stones and who has the additional difficulties in obtaining adequate pain relief.

We give thanks with Myjobismum for a much better prognosis for the baby of a young friend. Initially it was thought that the baby might have to spend months in hospital, the baby will still need a lot of care but it is now thought that it will be weeks rather than months.
We also pray for Henry,(thanks to StickyJ who flagged this up for us) who has had operations and is still very up and down and for the baby of Mascarpone's friend in New Zealand who is suffering from trigonocephaly.
We pray for two other 'newbies' on the thread: longlegted and livvylouis.
We pray for Amber and Roseylea, Notquitegrownup and Notsofarnow, (prayers for dd, GCSE results and MRI scan results),Jentlydoesit, FAQ, Mufti and PandaG.
We give thanks with Marslady who managed to support the parents of two fatboys and twind, within the space of a week. we have seen real answers to prayer here.
We pray for those who have suffered bereavements: Onlyjoking, Evenstar and MartianBishop and we pray for Mummy2TandF on the coming first anniversary of her dh's death
Last but not least we hold up our own CaptainDippy who is still not in the right place healthwise and who is struggling in other ways as well. Lord, bring someone alongside her to guide her, support her, emotionally and practically and please Lord, make her aware of your loving presence.

We praise God for the ability to pray for one another in the certainty that He hears our prayers and deals with them in His infinite wisdom and compassion.

Just popping on quickly because I'm still struggling with sickness lots...

Congratulations MJIM! Welcome to the world Naomi! I couldn't resist a peek at your photos and now I want to cry. She looks sooooooo perfect and precious.

Off to bed now to try and avoid being sick. Not sure how I'm managing to carry on, but I am managing.

CaptainDippy · 24/09/2008 09:51

Hello! Sorry I've not been around much, but I have been thinking of you all & praying. I am compliing a summary in order to start a new thread, life is just a bit manic and a bit atm so bear with me & watch this space ....

CaptainDippy · 24/09/2008 09:59

I not a happy bunny this morning - P was screaming between 2 and 4.30am Think she is constipated, poor love Please please pray that her symptoms are alivated asap, it not good for her or for DH & I for her to be like this Horrid. I was then kindly awoken by a delightful 3.5 yr old infoming me that she had poo-ed on the rug in her room at 6am Yuk yuk yuk! P seems to have settled down for her nap though (please please please - prayers!!) & I am planning to do some work & then try and have a snooze myself before my dad arrives at 12pm.

Where's the sun!!?

Sorry for selfish post.

JentlyDoesIt · 24/09/2008 10:21

MJIM - Naomi is just scrummy, those pics made me cry - I can't believe my DD was like that only 5 months ago

CD - lots of prayers and hugs for you my lovely, hope P settles for you and you can get a snooze in. DD was unsettled last night too so I can sympathise - perhaps teeth?

Sizisi - prayers for your Granny and you as you grieve.

Mufti - prayers for your DH next week for his op and for the transport situation to be ook.

SS - hope you start feeling better very soon. I know it's hard, but the sickness is a good sign that bean is well (well, that's what I was told anyway)

Love and prayers for all. DP seems to be coming around with regards to the christening and whilst I know he won't take part in the responses in church, he will at least be there. I have had a chat with the vicar to explain the situation and he was lovely, saying that he certainly wouldn't want DP to make promises he couldn't keep.

Just peeked at Naomi - soooo tiny and yummy - yum yum yum Made me more Thank you for sharing her!!

Trying to decided whether farm or mini railway is safest this pm - looks like rain - again!!

lucysnowe · 24/09/2008 13:03

Hi all

Thanks for the kind thoughts - unfortunately my colleague did have a miscarriage - she is on the mend now but it was quite a shock as you can imagine. Am sending her lots of prayers and hugs.

This is a lovely thread - with bonus gorgeous newborn pics! Nice to have something to pray for than the usual selfish nonsense.

My DD was christened last weekend and was an absolute ANGEL the whole time - didn't cry even when liberally sprinkled with (tepid) water. I am so proud of her and the people in the church were so nice.

Notquitegrownup · 24/09/2008 13:35

Welcome back Lucysnowe! Hope you can join us regularly. We're a chatty lot, so the posts tend to build up quickly, but with lots of praise and thanksgiving going on, as well as prayer needs.

Hi CD. Prayers that the rain stays away this afternoon, wherever you decide to go.

God bless all.

slapheadsrock · 24/09/2008 15:33

Hi. Have been reading your threads for a while - you all sound so lovely and upbeat, a bit worried that I might be too glum!

Am the 'thread' that notquitegrownup put a link to a while back.

DH still refusing help from church, same one we have been going to for 16 years, so it's not as if he doesn't know anyone!

Celebrated my birthday yesterday. No card, no present from DH. So I went shopping and bought myself the funky floral DM's I have been admiring for a while!!

Will try and get to grips with who goes with which life!!

Thank you for your prayers, and prayers on their way for you all.

Notquitegrownup · 24/09/2008 16:26

Hello and welcome SHR! Lovely to 'see' you and please don't worry about sounding glum. There are lots of us who have found support here through really hard times. You've just arrived during a bit of a lull! How lovely to know that you have been lurking and praying for us.

I'm sorry to hear that life is difficult for you - though after 16 years, I guess it may take a while to turn around. I was struck on your other thread by how amazingly patient and positive you sound, in obviously difficult circumstances.

Well done you for treating yourself to those DMs. They sound brilliant.

amber32002 · 24/09/2008 16:50

Hi to new people, and prayers for everyone this drizzly afternoon (grr - what happened to the lovely sunshine?).

Getting over a virus of some sort, and needed a walk so I went round to my newish church and just sat there for a while, trying to work out what's what, which books go with which services, how on earth you work out how to use a Book of Common Prayer, etc. Not absolutely sure if I was more confused before or afterwards . Could do with a small prayer that I can get my confidence back in myself for church on Sunday and will absolutely not say "yes I'm fine" when I'm not, as it makes it very difficult for my disability supporters to know what they might need to do differently. Perhaps I should write 100 lines of "I must not..." before I go...

SHR, happy Birthday for yesterday!! Prayers for your situation too.

notsofarnow · 24/09/2008 19:41

slapheadsrock do not worry about being too gloomy you cant beat me I can tell you! But no in all seriousness we all have our ups and downs and we share the good and the bad.

dc have decided that messing around in bedroom is preferable to going to sleep hmmm sure they will settle down soon.

MaryBS · 24/09/2008 20:02

Amber, if its any comfort, I haven't figured out the BCP either! It sits on my bookshelf gathering dust!

Those of you that I don't have a mobile no won't know this, but today I got my diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. Very tired as the appt lasted 2 1/2 hours, but I do feel a sense of relief. Thank God for being with me through this dreadfully stressful time, and particular for friends - you know who you are!

MaryBS · 24/09/2008 20:03

don't have a mobile no FOR

amber32002 · 24/09/2008 22:27

Mary, congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rest of the people reading will think I'm quite mad for phrasing it that way, but I mean it...

Weegiemum · 24/09/2008 23:32

I wonder if you ladies could pray for someone we know.

Ted has been the Vice-Principal of the college dh and I have been at for 10 years. In August he had an operation which showed that he had inoperable metastatic colon cancer, and has weeks to live. He is an amazing man, a fabulous teacher, steeped deep in the Old testament (he was involved with translation of some of the Dead Sea Scrolls) and utterly inspiring to be around.

Can you pray for Ted, his wife Diana and their adult children, David and Joy, as they face the last few weeks.

If you need inspiration, and have 8 minutes to spare, then you can listen to him talk about his journey with cancer

here .

I don't think I have ever heard someone quite so accepting in the face of death - he actually seems to be looking forward to what happens next!

MaryBS · 25/09/2008 07:07

Walk with God Ted, and "may the Lord bless". You sound an inspiration to all you meet, enjoy your rest in Heaven, knowing you have touched so many lives.

SHR, good to see you here. Happy birthday for the other day, can't believe there was nothing from DH. Does he normally? Did he say why? Glad you treated yourself though!

We are all walking along a road, we hope to God, and if someone falls or falters, we all stop, to scoop them up and carry on. We are as fast or as slow on that road as the slowest in our group. Please God, NO-ONE gets left behind. Not everyone always gets mentioned by name here, but we all carry everyone in our hearts, to God in prayer. That's what has kept me going through some VERY dark times, and I hope is a similar inspiration to all here.

(does that sound corny? )

mufti · 25/09/2008 08:14

not corny, loveLY MARY

Clockface · 25/09/2008 08:55

Hi all!

Hi SHR, good to see you on this thread!

Mary how are you feeling today after yesterday? I was thinking of you all day.

Amber the BCP can be bewildering! I love it but still get in a fluster when it's a service that requires the rapid turning of many pages!

Weegiemum - wow. How are you btw?

I am good. I had a really encouraging chat with my vicar yesterday and am thoroughly throroughly enjoying my new job. It is 1000% what I want to be doing and what I feel I ma meant to be doing!

notsofarnow · 25/09/2008 10:37

mary so sorry totally missed tht you were going yesterday but glad you got a diagnosis at least you know where you stand now.

You are an inspiration.

JentlyDoesIt · 25/09/2008 14:22

Mary - I know what Amber means - I am so pleased you have a diagnosis finally. And not corny, but beautifully put. I often miss people out in my posts but it does not mean I have forgotten them in my prayers.

WM = prayers for ted and his family as they face this sad time.

Hope everyone else is ok.

CD & SS - how are you both feeling now?

Sazisi · 25/09/2008 22:15

I want to thank all who prayed for my Granny
We burried her today (we don't waste any time in Ireland) with my grandfather who died 35 years ago. Her funeral mass was attended by 5 priests and even the Bishop which would have pleased her.

MaryBS · 26/09/2008 07:54

5 priests and a bishop! Wow! How do you feel Sazisi?

Thank you all for your messages of support. I feel so happy about it all, I feel like I can get on with my life again! Praise God for his goodness, and for his little God-incidences he's been sending me lately
