@ISaySteadyOn please don't feel like a failure! You're clearly a wonderful Mum, otherwise you wouldn't care so deeply Flowers
The school system just doesn't suit some children. We've been discussing this at work actually (NHS). I think this has always been the case, but in the past, before we lived in this always-on, 24/7 society, life was generally less overwhelming and kids just muddled through. Everything now is just so intense and high pressured, kids just aren't coping. It's the same in the workplace, so many people off sick because they're burnt out and exhausted. Am I right I'm thinking that you're home schooling one DC already? Is it the 12 year old who is refusing to go in?

Interesting to read about experiences of energy in different places. There's a village not far from me that's gives me the shivers. I hated it when I was a child and used to cover my eyes with my hands when we drive through it! I'm convinced something either happened to me there in a past life, or something awful happened there at some point. I've done some googling and not come across anything, one day I'm going to look into it properly.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/09/2023 20:52

I have 3. The 12 year old is the one at home already. My middle one loves school and it's the youngest who is refusing.

The talk of atmospheres is making me wonder if we all ought to write to Danny Robins of Uncanny fame! He could do an episode on places in Britain 😀.

Also, did you all know that Hill House in Shirley Jackson's novel The Haunting of Hill House was based on a house she saw a postcard of? Then it turned out that that awful house had been built by either her grandfather or great grandfather, I forget which.

Hedjwitch · 13/09/2023 21:22

If a 7 inch spider drops on me I will die of fright. I'm already peering around in case one is about to gallop out and give me hysterics. Family are starting to take my herbal work seriously now as they see first hand that these remedies work. People are starting to ask me for stuff to help with minor ailments, which is pleasing and scary at the same time. But it feels right.

ISaySteadyOn · 14/09/2023 06:27

That's absolutely wonderful @Hedjwitch . In fact, do you know of anything that works for headaches? I had a dreadful one all day yesterday which did not help with the general rottenness of the day.

As for the spider, he was thinking with his pedipalps. He does not understand that our house currently has no lady spiders. They are in the garden. I doubt it was nice for him when DH used a piece of paper to gently knock him off my leg. But I think I read somewhere long ago that a spider on you can mean good luck so we shall see.

speakout · 14/09/2023 07:19

ISaySteadyOn I hope your headache has eased.
I often get headaches when I am dehydrated, so make sure you are drinking enough. I don't have a magical remedy for headaches, but there are effective yoga poses to help. Sometimes binding the head tightly can help too, or I like to use a menthol remedy like 4head- rubbed on the temples, forehead and nape of the neck, Vicks ointment works too in the same way.

It is so much darker this morning, I slept long and deep under the Balsamic moon.
The new moon in Virgo brings a fresh start today, a good time for new projects, clearing clutter, both mentally and physically and bringing some organisation to our lives. We will have our skills of discernment heightened, our spidey senses sharpened, a good day for seeking truth and sniffing out BS !

I do not care what the spiders are thinking with. I object to them running across me when i am lying in my bed trying to sleep. And it is not like the giant house spiders go outside. 4 flipping times this week and the peppermint around the bed trick is not working this year. I have some pretty strong opinions about that.

Craftycorvid · 14/09/2023 09:34

My goodness, @ISaySteadyOn I’m trying to comprehend a 7 inch spider. Do you live in Australia?

I’m sitting looking at a rather tilting fridge and oven - yes, they are next to each other and no, it is not ideal but there is nowhere else for them to go. Mr C had a rather Heath Robinson arrangement involving blocks of wood that stopped the tilt, but the new fridge is smaller than the old one and doesn’t allow for that. I am thinking of deploying a yoga brick….

ISaySteadyOn · 14/09/2023 09:50

No, I live in England. But a while back DH and I bought a cabbage that claimed it was grown in Essex and it contained a massive female spider who we named Shelly Shaz and put out in the garden. Suspect that this one was her son or grandson.

As to kitchens and fridges and tilts, I think we underappreciate human adaptability and invention. Your idea of a yoga brick is a good one.

DelightfullyDotty · 14/09/2023 14:17

@ISaySteadyOn I noticed that some of the spiders in Cambridge were far bigger than where I lived before in the Midlands. Huge brown things that lived under the floorboards. Maybe it was one of those?

speakout · 14/09/2023 15:48

Could it be a Cardinal Spider? They can have a leg span of up to 4.5 inches. If bigger than that try to take a photograph- could it be an exotic species that has escaped?

OP posts:
ISaySteadyOn · 14/09/2023 16:05

That's definitely a possibility. We think he might be but he has hidden or gone in the garden.

And tbh, I may have exaggerated the size. But he was pretty big. I do actually like spiders but not on me.

SeaEssence · 14/09/2023 17:39

@ISaySteadyOn failure??? Of course you're not! I'd rather cuddle that 7 inch spider than homeschool my child. You have my respect for doing that for your kiddos.

Chaotic week continues for me - today I woke up with trapped nerve and a terrible headache. Weekend can't come soon enough!

Hedjwitch · 14/09/2023 19:41

@ISaySteadyOn . For headaches try steaming over a bowl of hot water and basil leaves.
Tincture of Rosemary is good for migraines,as is feverfew.
Neroli essential oil rubbed into temples is uplifting

ISaySteadyOn · 14/09/2023 20:17

Thank you!

Craftycorvid · 14/09/2023 21:12

@ISaySteadyOn Shelly Shaz is just an inspired name for a spider! I’m glad you are living peaceably with her progeny. For the record, I was in bits over ‘Charlotte’s Web’. My mum had a house spider so hefty it was possible to hear all eight approaching footsteps…

I eventually deployed a coaster as a ‘guzzunder’ for the leg of the cooker - it works!

ISaySteadyOn · 14/09/2023 21:15

Can't take the credit for Shelly Shaz. That was DH. He is pretty good really. He brought me flowers tonight but because I like gardening, said flowers are pretty yellow chrysanthemums in pots so I can look after them.

I am feeling a lot better today. It has gone better. I hope you have all had or continue to have magical days.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/09/2023 23:06

You ever pick up a magic book, start reading it and then just end up annotating the heck out of it?
So far it is more academic so there has been assumed knowledge such as who is who, fancy words that means nothing to me before i look them up.
It is not a hard read and you could most certainly just read without finding out these things, but man is it interesting to find out the additional information.

It is said to be a good book on the subject, but i haven't yet draw conclusions on the book as the topic falls fowl of personal opinions of the author in too many cases. If nothing else i will have a deep understanding of how modern views twisted older history. I am regretting not paying more attention on history encountered whilst traveling as a child.

speakout · 15/09/2023 06:58

I would love to know the book HillsBesideTheSea.

I do read things that I fundamentally disagree with, but would struggle reading a whole book.. I would end up too cross!
More often I will read a book that is aligned with my views, but do find parts that are at odds with my opinion, but that's fine. If a books starts deviating too far from my heartfelt beliefs then I usually stop reading.

I sold second hand books for ten years, I started when my youngest was a baby- so could never bring myself to write on pages. I have seen so many beautiful, rare and otherwise valuable books ruined by previous owners' pen marks.
If I want to draw my attention to a point I use a slip of paper inserted in the pages.
If I come across particularly wise words I copy them out into my journal.
My collection of journals seems to have grown in the recent past.

I now have my Grimoire, my day to day journal, my life handbook, and my art journal.
Journalling is a recent activity, I didn't really "get it", it felt like homework, a chore, but I have found it to be a really amazing way to calm any stress and anxiety, pure feelings, explore emotions.
For me the physical act of putting pen to paper does something powerful, leads the mind to process in a different type of way, allows other neural pathways to deal with feelings.
It's an overcast day here- cool, raining, feeling much more seasonal. Perhaps this is now the start of Autumn. Time for warmer clothes, cocoa, snuggling up, embracing the start of spooky season!

Good morning lovely people. I haven't posted for a long time but have intermittently been reading the threads. I'm (hopefully) just coming out of a very turbulent time-work, family and health (dd1 and I have had serious illnesses with life changing impact).

I have been having reiki treatment which has helped so much in releasing negative bonds, setting boundaries and freeing me to be my authentic self.

Reading back through the threads is giving me so much to explore, it's wonderful!

I hope you all have a magical day in this lovely early autumn weather.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/09/2023 09:46

I tend to choose mass market , paperback versions. And actually had a conversation with the book selling over the style of book I was looking for. A lot of the Troy books come in paperback, hardback and collectors editions. I always prefer paperbacks, even though i know the binding glue will eventually fail and i will end up with a collection of pages. I am not here for fancy copies. And in most cases I doubt by the time i am finished with the books they will be legacy copies.

I don't always annotate but more academic the more likely there is things i will have to look up and looking up the same thing again and again leads to 4 pages read and 16 squirrel runs rather than completing the short chapter.

One of the things that i am loving is all the references. So much more that can be delved into should one desire. And i am not made that this trend has made its way into good non fiction (but not academic) texts

Currently reading and really enjoying this...in the bath!

Oxalisspiralis · 15/09/2023 19:48

Hope everyone has had a lovely day.

I was lucky enough to take my dog for his walk under some incredible red skies this morning, definitely felt worth waking up for and I'm loving the cooler mornings.

I've been trying to see the magic in the little things (advice from a previous thread I believe) and can't believe the difference it makes to how I feel.

Craftycorvid · 15/09/2023 20:25

It has been an unexpectedly lovely day @Oxalisspiralis . I took Mr C for a walk away from the hospital ward - we ended up walking up and down various streets, finding an interesting old church and ending up in a pub which had a rough-hewn charm, I think you’d say. However, the people were friendly and Mr C enjoyed his beer. We sat in a park on the way back and I could just see more and more of him ‘on line’ again. It’s been rather marvellous.

EmmaEmerald · 15/09/2023 21:08

I have had a really lovely with my bestie

I missed the proper dates for a New Moon ritual but now too tired to do much. But I plan to start a morning and evening ritual, just briefly. I have dug out my singing bowl and will use it to change energy, so to speak.

I was thinking over the "altar in lounge" thing, I have decided to redo the bedroom so it's more likely to be in there. It's only small but I don't want questions about it. There will be a couple of less obvious things in the lounge.

Hedjwitch · 16/09/2023 11:46

Off to DD2s 30th birthday party today...how can that be? She was only born yesterday!
Git started on the glut of elderberries given by a neighbour. Elderberry syrup, elderberry tincture and an elderberry glycerite which I will combine with wild cherry bark to make a cough syrup.
Also got the foot powder made for DS's smelly feet and trainers. Just mums hand cream to do and I'm up to date with orders lol
