A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration.

ShhhSecretSquirrel

I would be interested in your book reccommendation.
What is the one you suggest?

Anything inspirational!.

I don't have a copy of Women who Run with the Wolves, I did have when it was first published, ( nearly 30 years ago- yikes!) but have moved home several times since then, it has been mislaid.
It would be good to read again with a different life perspective.

Have Joanne Harris’s books following on from Chocolat? The protagonist is a witch and I love the mystery of them. I have just finished the Strawberry Thief which I found a bit disappointing but the others are stronger..
The other recent book which I really found fascinating is about The Brethren and mostly set in Port Seton so you may find it interesting. Trying to remember the title...

Smokeonthewater · 26/06/2019 10:03

In the Days of Rain. Rebecca Stott.

Yes I have read a few Joanne Harris books, In the Days of Rain sounds challenging- bit too close to home!

Thanks.

@ShhhSecretSquirrel my favourite season and month changes, but I love summer (especially July), as well as early autumn (September). All the seasons have something to offer, but I do love the summer weather especially.

BlankTimes · 26/06/2019 12:53

How about some light nostalgia Speakout
Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave, Marion Z Bradley's Mists of Avalon, Ursula le Guinn's Earthsea trilogy, any of Dion Fortune's novels.

YashmisCrone · 26/06/2019 14:12

Ooh, I’m enjoying all these book recommendations- thank you for asking that speakout!

I have this app on my phone-

www.borrowbox.com/

it connects to a library account and you can borrow audiobooks for free- I listen to them when I’m travelling. I like a good saga that spans time for long journeys. Choice is limited to what your library has but I enjoyed listening to Kate Morton’s The Clockmaker’s Daughter, Jeanette Winterson’s The Gap of Time and Elizabeth Gilbert’s The Signature of all Things when I last did a lot of travelling. All work well as audiobooks I thought.

I’ve very much enjoyed everyone’s reflections on the comfort of being in tune with nature and the turning of the wheel of the year. Your descriptions of how this feels really resonate with me. It’s a lovely connection we all have.

Smokeonthewater what a beautiful cat 💖 sorry to hear of the trouble you’re having. I hope Violet’s friend can help and that she’s soon more settled again.

VioletCharlotte · 26/06/2019 15:58

@Smokeonthewater I've sent my friend the photo of your cat and explained what the issue is. She has asked what her name is. Would you mind sending me a pm if you don't want to post it on here?

speakout · 26/06/2019 16:03

Thank you all for the book ideas- some researching to do now!

I am enjoying the talk of the seasons and turning of the year.
There is no time of the year I dislike,, in fact I get stupidly excited as each new season approaches, my inner child I guess!
If I was really pushed to choose, then it would probably be autumn, I love the crisp and the crackle, Samhain and the lead up to Yule.
But we still have summer to enjoy- many warm days to come!

Thank you Violet! I’ve PMd you.

Elphame · 26/06/2019 18:44

I've just finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's a tale of a magical duel set in a magical circus. I loved it.

I was also working out which shops you visited in Glastonbury SSS! Unfortunately there is a huge shoplifting problem there which is why so much of the jewellery is locked away. Did you find the White Spring? That's my favourite place. I plan to take a quick trip down on Saturday. It's the Wytches Market and I want a little chat with one of the vendors to commission a little something!

I'm sorry so many of us have had MC - I lost one of my twins at 10 weeks. It truly is something you hardly hear about until you experience one yourself. I was surprised how many of my friends had had the same sad loss. Not a word said though until I joined the "club" but they were a great support to me.

I had the opportunity to attend a lecture by Prof Hutton last night. Now I really NEED a wicker man tea towel!

vasillisa · 26/06/2019 19:30

Just catching up, as not read thread here in a while. Shh your Glastonbury experiences sound wonderful.

Would like to sound a note of caution about crystals and stones. Sadly many are mined in ways which are damaging to our wonderful planet. Also human rights and safety of miners can be very poor. There are eye popping videos on amethyst mining in South America.

Not trying to rain on your parade, I used to have quite a collection in younger days, and always carried rose quartz on my person. I was given a big chunk of laborodite when a friend moved continents which has all sorts of lovely witchy friend resonances.

Have to say I no longer buy stones as I am concerned about their provenance. Maybe we can set up a stone exchange so we don't fuel the trade?

I came by a copy of Hedgewitch by Rae Beth recently. A copy long ago in a library was a key beginning thread for being a pagan as a teenager.

I don't feel like I do much practice, though my soul is pagan through and through!

How have you all found ways to open the door to the magical side for children? I would like my DS to find a spiritual side in life (he's 9) but I don't want to be heavy handed. Obviously it will be up to him as he grows what beliefs etc he wants to look into.

Just feel like they get quite a lot of Christian air time and church visits via school which is OK by me but I would like to balance that a bit with some old ways too.

I was brought up in a gentle Catholicism, and found my own experiences in nature and my local church when empty (doors always open then). I would leave wild flowers for St Mary. Later I read about goddess worship (virgin births etc) and the history of Christianity and the penny dropped!

vasillisa · 26/06/2019 19:44

So sorry to hear of your loss Shelves and thinking of all those amongst us who have lost a baby.

I can't help but think we will meet them again, once we step out of time. I know at least one friend who has dreamed of her spirit child.

Smokeonthewater · 26/06/2019 20:21

I have enjoyed reading about Glastonbury. I have been many times and always enjoyed it, though it does have a strange energy which I don't always find positive. I love the Tor. It's just like nowhere else really, so many eclectic stuff and people around. The Chalice Well is wonderful.

YashmisCrone · 26/06/2019 20:36

I’d love to see Prof Hutton speak Elphame. The closest I’ve got is YouTube! Fascinating stuff, and he seems to have a lovely manner about him.

I’m another autumn favouring witch- September has always been my favourite month. Those days when the air is cool and crisp with a promise of winter yet the sky is blue and the sun shines are wonderful IMO. That said, there’s so much to enjoy about all of the seasons, and just tuning into them as we were discussing. I’ve just been out watering my plants after a hot day and the wind is really blowing. I love the energy of that- so invigorating. I’ve opened the windows to invite in change.

Yes, I think many of us here have the same concerns about crystals vasillisa Foraged stones are the way forward!

Loyaultemelie · 27/06/2019 10:22

Elphame I recently read The Night Circus too, I really enjoyed it.

The weather is beautiful here and I'm hoping later to get Dh to put a chair out for me beside my favourite weeping birch in the garden and read outside. I've been feeling very frustrated the last few days because there's so much I can't actually do and I feel embarrassed by the house. Dd1 is being challenging to say the least, but I think it's just the last week of school has her worked up. To make us all feel better next week we are going to make an outdoor fairy garden in the bed around the stump of an old tree which will get us all out and doing something together.

speakout · 27/06/2019 14:55

Good afternoon wise ones, the temperature has soared today, no mistaking this energy!
Every window in my house is open and I am having a quick break and some coffee flavoured ice cream.

Had some lovely synchronicity/ magic manifestation today, which has been inspiring, I feel very blessed.
Magic is everywhere, when we start to look and to give then the world becomes an abundant place.

I hope everyone finds some magic today.

Hot and sunny yet very breezy here today. Lovely energy.

Dried calendula petals infusing in oil, canned summer and so pretty in the light!

Trying to capture as much of this uplifting summer energy as possible.

FitzsFool · 27/06/2019 16:56

Loyaul did you get out under the Birch tree? The fairy tree stump sounds a lovely idea. Sorry to hear your DD is struggling, it's a difficult time of year for little ones.

YashmisCrone · 27/06/2019 19:40

I hope you managed to get out Loyaul I’ve said it before but I really admire the strength and resilience in your energy. I hope you were able to get some solar energy to recharge.

I love this! Synchronicity and manifestation fill me with a sense of wonder and possibility, which of course attracts more of the same. I have felt very blessed recently too 💖

Fitz those calendula petals look fabulous. Bottled sunshine indeed!

I’ve been a busy bee today, preparing for a trip away to visit family. I need to work on shrinking the to do list before the 11th hour- it seems to grow at these times!

Loving the sun and the wind for laundry magic though 💫

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 27/06/2019 21:11

Good evening all

I hope that everyone is enjoying the midsummer light and energy. This is a lovely time of year.

I have had a good week since last Friday. Things have been productive at work. I have been trying to look after myself, get enough sleep etc, over the past few months.

After a difficult start to the year the new familiars have lightened the mood somewhat. That, plus lots of self care and the lovely longer days have meant that I am feeling positive, upbeat and determined. I decided to pull out a card to see what it said. I have neglected my Tarot over the past few months and so wasn’t really expecting anything. I pulled out Queen of Wands. I still have to look up the detailed meanings but when I did so I laughed at myself. The card matched my mood perfectly.

When things were not so good I enjoyed reading other peoples positive experiences and so I wanted to drop in and share mine with you all. It’s taken a while but I am in a good place.

Thank you all.

Gee

Just a fly by to mark my place.
I lost you all , the thread stopped appearing on my list.
New book arrived today Real Magic Dean Radin , Ill let you know how it goes.
Still reading If Women Rose Rooted.
Never a spare minute and just wiped out with RA & painkillers and work.
I'm sorry my contribution has been lacking.

YashmisCrone · 27/06/2019 23:12

Gee

Reading your post gave me such a wonderful lift. Thank you. It’s so good to hear you’re on a good place and feel your lovely queen of wands energy. Very inspiring 💫 🙏

I’m winding down after a busy day- more to come so I’ll need to work on firming up my foundations. I’ve been working on the shield adjustment- I’m liking the fog- it feels easy to adjust in the moment which is just what I need.

Long copy and paste from Facebook incoming! I liked this perspective from Alex Myles on mercury retrograde. Interesting to reflect on I thought..

^We are now in the shadow period leading up to the July 7th Mercury Retrograde, so many who are energy sensitive will already be feeling it's undercurrent rippling through their life.

The reason we are so affected by the planet Mercury is because it has a high density, leading astrologers to believe it is mostly made of iron. Therefore, it is like a huge magnet orbiting the sun and the closer it is to Earth the more effect it will have on it. During Mercury retrograde, Mercury is in its closest position to earth, which is why we feel pushed and pulled in all directions.

When Mercury is in retrograde it can be a troublemaking planet—especially where communication, technology and traveling is involved. Normal conversations, interactions and plans that would normally be straightforward will likely have been going haywire. Telephone conversations, emails and simple discussions will be full of misunderstanding and missing links.

This is why it is vitally important to dissect, analyse and figure out exactly who and what the Mercury retrograde period brings to our attention and why - and not to make any irrational conclusions or prejudgments, as everyone will be a little more tightly coiled than normal.

The past usually comes back to re-visit or haunt us during Mercury retrograde. Whether it’s an old friend, lover or a missed opportunity, we will likely be presented with old emotions that will potentially resurface.

Even though it feels far from it at the time, Mercury retrograde is always beneficial. It shakes us up and sends shockwaves through our relationships as it triggers unhealed wounds and churns up old history. Therefore, it is highly possible that ghosts from our past will make unexpected appearances accompanied with emotional confessions; Whether it’s an old friend, lover or a missed opportunity, we will likely be presented with old emotions that will potentially resurface.

This is to ask us to take one last look before we decide to reopen or firmly lock doors that we previously only closed. We may receive calls or messages that will take us by surprise and cause a great deal of tension, especially if we wrongly interpret the intentions of the messenger and jump to the wrong conclusions.

It is advisable not to pay too much attention to anything that goes wrong during the retrograde, as once Mercury appears back on track and is travelling straight in its regular motion, our meaningful relationships usually straighten out with it.

Ultimately Mercury retrograde is here to teach us about ourselves, not to focus on others. We need to question all the uncomfortable and irrational feelings that are in our own hearts and minds, as often our inner peace is disturbed due to healing work that needs doing, or lessons we desperately need to learn.

This is a period of soul searching and reflection, and one of accepting who and what is meant to be in our lives and compassionately releasing who and what isn’t.

Important words to remember during Mercury retrograde are:

Rest

Recuperate

Research

Review

Consider

Evaluate

Examine

Contemplate

It is worthwhile to tread lightly and with caution during this time, and it is not recommended, unless absolutely necessary, to make life-changing decisions during a retrograde. This is a time for reflection, reexamination, discernment, introspection, and caution—not for hasty emotion-fuelled reactions or major decisions.

Retrogrades are catalysts for positive transformation and radiate immensely powerful bursts of supercharged cosmic energy that dramatically shake up and alter our lives, giving us the opportunity to wipe the karmic slate clean and turn things around for the better.

During Mercury retrograde, there a few words that can turn a potentially traumatic period into a positive and calm one. These are a simple, “Let it go.”

Breathe deep, surrender, and keep letting it all go.^
