You may have seen this before- it seems to have been doing the rounds recently, but I wanted to share as I think it’s so important as we think of self care- it’s not all super healthy eating and bubble baths- simply accepting ourselves rather than always striving to achieve something that may be out of reach can be so powerful can’t it 💜

speakout · 14/04/2019 15:37

YashmisCrone That poem brought a lump to my throat. Thank you- it embodies exactly what self care is about.
I was thinking similar thoughts this morning in the shower, my body is not pert, my belly is rounded, but I am a woman, I have given birth, I have lived life,. As I looked at my body and washed myself I did so with love, I was gentle, I thanked my body for all the hard work that is does.

I am treating myself like a welcome guest in my own house this weekend- and making no apologies for it. I am still working, still doing laundry, but safeguarding my thoughts and treating myself with benevolence and kindness.

Yashmi great poem with an important message.

I am treating myself like a welcome guest in my house
Speakout What a great way to shift your perspective in order to nourish yourself. Hope you feel the benefits.

Enjoyed hearing about the Psychic fair and hope you are finding a way to balance the highs Violet.

Deceptive blue skies but bitter wind here. April is such a tease!

speakout · 14/04/2019 16:14

Deceptive blue skies but bitter wind here. April is such a tease!

Such poetic words- I agree !
But I have had laundry out today, and it is nearly bone dry,
Now hanging on he rack to dry, the whole house is fragranced with fresh spring air.
I have lit a citrus candle for myself and setting down with a glass of wine to finish off some paperwork. Hasn't felt like a busy day but just seen this pile I have packed awaiting postage!

It is such a beautiful day here. I went out to see if I could find the puffins, but I didn't. I had a 5 mile walk over stiles and cliffs and up and down hills anyway and saw lots of other birds while soaking up the sun and my hair being whipped around by the (very strong) wind.
I'm missing having an outdoor space I can just sit in, as I'm in a flat without a balcony. Yesterday I got up the courage to just sit on the grass in front of the building, reading in the sun. 't was lovely.

That poem is lovely.

speakout · 14/04/2019 19:15

rivierliedje

Your walk sounds amazing.
I am lucky enough to live close to puffins, lots of sea birds and seals too.
Wildlife is so wonderful.
Oh cooked my meal, I have just woken from a " power nap" and feel the need for tea.

Yashmis I love that poem. Being able to love yourself and your own body means you'll take the time to care for yourself, in the same way you would for other people you love. Something we all need a reminder of sometimes.

I've had such a nice day at the coast, sea energy is so powerful isn't? It helps put everything into perspective somehow. And of course I came home with lots of shells and stones 😊

Speakout so pleased you've had such a good day at home. And productive too, judging by all of those orders waiting to be posted!

River sounds like a lovely walk. I've lived on a flat before and like you, missed outside space. It does force too out in sunny days though, to places you may not have visited if you'd stayed in the garden.

I'm off to Glastonbury tomorrow with DS1. So looking forward to spending the day together on one of my favourite places.

YashmisCrone · 14/04/2019 22:36

rivierliedje I love the sound of your walk. Such a great description makes me feel able to tap into the feeling of walking along a cliff top on a bright, windy day. Wonderful.

My own nature boost today was a little less wild and invigorating- an hour in a city park. Still, it was refreshing and I enjoyed the blossom trees, a patch of ‘wasteland’ with patches of pink and blue hyacinths somehow growing there, the way the tree’s branches bend and meet each other around my favourite bend in the path and a curious little robin hoping from tree to tree.

I’ve been noticing and appreciating recently how nature has such a will the thrive everywhere- in walls, cracks in the pavement and so on. Very inspiring I think.

Lovely to hear about your day taking in sea energy Violet, I agree about the perspective. I used to swim in the sea quite regularly, I loved dipping my head under and feeling amongst all the wonderful life under there. Like slipping into another world- the perfect way to de-stress!

I love your way with words Fitz, a perfect description of our April weather! It makes me think of that old saying ‘cast not a clout til the month of may is out’ (or something like that!) my grandad would say it to me when I wanted to leave my coat behind on a sunny spring day!

speakout you are such an industrious witch! I’m loving hearing about your self care focus this weekend and feeling the energy of you honouring yourself.

I’ve used the same practice of treating myself like a guest before- very powerful. Like Violet says, if we can find ways to treat ourselves like we would someone else we love then we’ll take good care of ourselves.

I’m glad the poem resonated with others as it did with me. It was an important reminder for me.

Hope everyone else has had a good day 💫

@rivierliedje your walk reminds me of an Enid Blyton book a read when I was a young girl, which had left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.

I've sat down with DH this evening to make plans for our garden, we will be making it bee friendly. We are also incorporating some ideas to teach our little one about nature and growing things.

I'm thinking of a trip to Glastonbury on my way to Cornwall later this year. Is there anything I can do whilst I'm there to entertain my 18month old?

YashmisCrone · 15/04/2019 10:39

I love the sound of your garden plans Salem. Not sure about Glastonbury and LO’s, sorry. Hopefully someone who’s more familiar with the place will have some ideas.

Just wanted to wish everyone a magical day 💫

More on the theme of loving ourselves as we are. Seems to be a theme that’s cropping up a lot for me atm- better take notice!

Afternoon everyone.

River that nature walk sounds wonderful. Yashmi, I liked the photos of your wander through the green, especially those plants growing between the rocks. You're so right, nature finds a way and will burst through any crack or crumbling of man-made 'civilisation'.

Salem another gardening novice here trying to improve! Do keep us posted about what you try out. I'm planting sunflowers and runner beans with my kids this year, easy to grow and quite a visual impact for little budding gardeners! Sunflowers can be left to go to seed and will provide food for the birds in the Autumn. Which I think is a good way to demonstrate the cycles of growth and interconnectedness in the natural world to children.

I too am aiming to plant for the bees. I've recently heard the phrase 'plant first for the bees, then for the birds and then for us'. I have even been insisting that we refraining from mowing the lawn for a little while longer so the bees can benefit from the (abundant!) dandelions!

Violet hope you have had a great day in Glastonbury today. I can just imagine these fresh Spring winds whipping across the Tor, harsh on ones extremities but good for the soul.

Enjoy your days.x

rivierliedje · 15/04/2019 15:43

The nature is my absolute favourite thing about living here. It makes me feel so much a part of the world and nature and alive somehow.
I'll try to add some pictures

@rivierliedje a sense of calm just radiates from your photos. Absolutely gorgeous!

FitzsFool · 15/04/2019 19:40

Rivier those pictures are wonderful. I imagine walking barefoot must really enhance the connection you feel to that beautiful landscape around you.

VioletCharlotte · 15/04/2019 20:17

Rivier what beautiful pictures, I love the colour of that sea. What an amazing place to live.

I've had a good day with DS in Glastonbury, we had a look round the shops and then climbed the Tor (which made me realise I need to work on my fitness!) It was so windy at the top, but the energy was beautiful and cleansing.

Salem so far as I could see, there wasn't anything specifically for little ones, but there were plenty of people there with small children, so I'm sure you'd be fine if she'd be happy to sit in a buggy for an hour or so while you looked around. We did see one Dad climbing the Tor was a baby in a back pack, not something I'd attempt, but he managed ok!

Loyaultemelie · 15/04/2019 22:13

Just enjoying a catch up, Rivier such wonderful photos and your barefoot walk sounds perfect, I love being barefoot and feeling the world under my feet.
Yashmis I love those poems.
Violet your trip to Glastonbury sounds lovely

I'm hoping to borrow some of your wonderful energy tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow my twins would have been 6 and I'm feeling low plus both girls have decided to play up and I've overdone it and my knee is so sore. To top it off Dh has chosen tonight for one of his rare times to be a complete arse, so it's just some scented candles and a cuddly cat to keep me sane.
Think I will flop in front of the aga and hide there for a couple of days, feel free to step over me!

SalemSpellman · 15/04/2019 22:21

Thank you @VioletCharlotte - lunch and an hour stroll with the buggy will probably do us well.

VioletCharlotte · 15/04/2019 22:25

Loyaul sending lots of love your way. Sit by the aga, wrap a fluffy blanket round yourself and have a brew. We'll take care of you x

YashmisCrone · 15/04/2019 23:30

Sending love to you too Loyaul, a candle and a wish for peace and strength for you. We’re all here for you, happy to share energy- draw on it when you feel the need x

Rivier those pictures are so beautiful- thank you for sharing them with us. Absolutely stunning. I agree with Salem about the calm 😍

Fitz I love your gardening philosophy! I too have avoided mowing the lawn so far due to the dandelions, primroses and forget-me-nots that have taken root there!

speakout · 16/04/2019 06:17

Good morning, I am smiliing at all the non lawn mowers here- I will add my name to that list.
Every spring my lawn butsts into clover flowers, and hundreds of bees come to visit to eat.
I can't bear to cut the lawn while the bees enjoying such a feast so I always wait until the clover has finish flowering even though my lawn is overgrown and scruffy for a few weeks.

I love this thread so much, such a lovely energy. It's actually a treat when you stay away for a while to come back and have lots to read and catch up on.

I have had two recent trips to Glastonbury. Took the kids there for my birthday, my daughter is 6 and absolutely loved it. So not tiny... my son is generally not well suited to looking round shops and in Glastonbury it becomes a bit stressful hoping he doesn't break things!

He is better suited to Avebury- loves running around the stones! Took them to Stonehenge last week as well which they thoroughly enjoyed.
