NIGHT PRAYER

Comfort me with Your love O God
Wrap me up in Your strong embrace
Shelter me from the storm O Lord
Envelop me in Your tender care
By day I pour out my heartbreak to You
By night I give you my racing thoughts
In You I take refuge
In You I will not be afraid
For you hold me strong, You hold me safe
Calm my fearful heart O God
Still my anxious mind O Lord
For all my life is found in You
All my being is given to You
All my hope begins in You

Prayer found on web.dawesvillecps.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/17th-September.pdf

I found this prayer on Facebook and tought it was a beautiful way to start the new prayer thread.

There was a beautiful picture with it too, but I don’t know how to transfer that.

Definitely still holding you in prayer, Becca.

The Collect for the Third Sunday in Advent

O Lord Jesus Christ,
who at your first coming sent your messenger
to prepare your way before you:
grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries
may likewise so prepare and make ready your way
by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,
that at your second coming to judge the world
we may be found an acceptable people in your sight;
for you are alive and reign with the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

two medical appointments and a drive to the other side of town with two dcs for end of term party for one of them. not the best planning!

Barbaraanne22 · 17/12/2018 19:59

Anyone that is able to add me to your prayers I would be very grateful. This year has not been a good one and I just seem to get through one crisis and another pops up. Mostly to do with the health of my nearest and dearest with some real touch and go times. Thankfully they both pulled through their crisis but the problems will reoccur. I've a couple of serious health issues myself, but they will pass.
In all this its me that needs to deal with it both mentally and organising all the appointments, assessments, house clearance and attempted sale, social care, etc. including stuff at a long distance from my home while holding a challenging full time job and no family support.
Throughout all this I have managed to find God's peace, but still wonder what the world will throw at me next!
But now I have this flu bug that's going round and it just feels the final straw. I'm exhausted but can't sleep, I'm hungry but can't keep food down, my prayer life just isn't connecting.

Dutchoma · 17/12/2018 21:48

Welcome Barbaraanne. It gets like that sometimes, doesn’t it? You keep going and going and then all of a sudden it all becomes too much.
I’m glad you found us and I will certainly pray for you.
If you can, try and relax in the knowledge that God is still very close to you. I will pray that you will have better night tonight andd that you will feel a lot better in the morning.

Welcome Barbaraanne. That sounds very hard. I am also praying for you, and for all on this thread.

Here's a prayer I heard tonight on a podcast I sometimes listen to. May God's peace be known tonight to all who seek it...

Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgments, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Saviour. Amen.

another important meeting today, and one tomorrow, then thurs and fri are manic shopping days to stock up for christmas to stop us having to take ds to the supermarket.

Becca19962014 · 18/12/2018 10:05

Still struggling here.
Am trying to remember you all in prayer.

Barbaraanne22 · 18/12/2018 16:29

Thank you. I had a better night's sleep last night and have given myself permission to just stop today (why is that so hard?). I'm trying not to stress about the million and one things to do for Christmas, but knowing that this may be my mother's last I want to make it special. And now I can also see the next hurdle, my beloved dog who has been more of a rock over the last few years than any human, is ill and it may be close to the time to make that tough decision.
Upholding everyone here in prayer. I pray your meetings go well Blackeye. Becca I don't have words, but just pray healing and wholeness into your situation.

Barbaraanne22 · 18/12/2018 21:17

Just came across this tweet from Rich Nathan
When the Bible says that “Those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength” the word “renew” in Heb. literally means “exchange”. The idea is we exchange our weakness for God’s strength. A wonderful trade!
I hold this up in prayer for us all tonight.

Becca19962014 · 18/12/2018 21:57

Today I managed to meet someone I've not seen in a long time and coped better than I expected to. I felt people's prayers today and I'm grateful. Still struggling, but I've managed to do some Christmas cards and pack a parcel to send.

Please continue to remember me in your prayers. I pray for a good nights rest tonight. That I can stop looking beyond today into problems and difficulties ahead. Both seemingly impossible and I am trying to trust in our Lord as difficult as that is.

BlackeyedGruesome · 18/12/2018 23:51

another one whose meeting did not go so well.

Tuo · 19/12/2018 00:53

Praying tonight for everyone on here who's struggling at this time. For BES after her meeting, for rest for Becca, for Barbaraanne and for her mum and dog, for Grace and her mum too, for MHD's health, for our wonderful Oma, and for any who pass by here in search of support, whether they post or not.

I'm also thanking God for a positive meeting here today, and for friendships in RL and online, and for everyone who posts here to make this a real community of prayer.

Heavenly Father, bless all who visit this thread, whether posters or lurkers. Shine your light into their lives, that they may know themselves close to you and loved by you.

Be with them in difficult times, lonely times, sad time, and times of frustration. Be with them too in their joy and their hope.
Inspire them to love you and to love one another always, in imitation of yourr great love for us.
Through your son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Barbaraanne22 · 19/12/2018 09:43

Amen, to your prayer, Tuo.
Good morning to everyone. Just a quick check in with you all before I muster the energy to write some Christmas cards and do an online shop for Christmas food.

Becca19962014 · 19/12/2018 10:01

Last night was difficult but I did get some rest.
Today I must face the post office for which I need strength on many levels!

Ten minutes ago I got an email with a link for those who are grieving this Christmas. I can't put into words how it's made me feel.

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/12/2018 10:11

another meeting today. hate it.

Barbaraanne22 · 19/12/2018 10:13

Praying for you Becca. I find post offices challenging too. Is it worth thinking about when is the busiest times for the post office and avoiding them. I've just googled mine and it's little graph shows 11am - 2pm.

Barbaraanne22 · 19/12/2018 10:15

And praying for you Blackeyed. That the meeting runs smoothly, for people to be compassionate and understanding and for the outcomes you need.

Becca19962014 · 19/12/2018 10:27

Ours is busy all the time now it's been squashed into a tiny shop!

Barbaraanne22 · 19/12/2018 10:29

Grim, Becca. Hope queues run quickly.

Becca19962014 · 19/12/2018 13:08

It wasn't that busy thankfully. I managed to buy a couple of things as well and go to a couple of shops. Am exhausted and worried I'm getting a cold. Lot of pain despite having a lot of pain meds. Appointment tomorrow I'm dreading.

BlackeyedGruesome · 19/12/2018 13:14

Bloody hell, it is the week of dreaded appointments.

pst what is the protocol when you have sworn in front of the vicar?

just asking for a friend

Barbaraanne22 · 19/12/2018 14:14

Glad the post office was ok, Becca. I always take a big dose of vitamin C when I feel a cold coming on, sometimes it sees it off, sometimes it doesn't.

Swearing in front of the vicar made me smile. Don't worry, they'll have had worse and at least it wasn't at the vicar Grin. I'd just carry on as normal.
I've just made an appointment with the vet at the weekend to discuss the options, please pray we have positive ones. Then off to collect aged-parent to stay here for Christmas. Looking at state of house is throwing me in to a panic.

applesandpears33 · 19/12/2018 18:19

Lurking and praying. Praying and lurking. I hope everyone manages to find some peace within the business.

Tuo · 20/12/2018 02:06

Hello applesandpears! Praying for everyone in the current hectic days before Christmas, but especially for those who are anxious, stressed, hurting, grieving, ill, or lonely.

This is a prayer from tonight's Northumbria Compline:

The peace of God
be over us to shelter us,
under us to uphold us,
about us to protect us,
behind us to direct us,
ever with us to save us.
Amen

Tuo · 21/12/2018 00:26

Randomly remembered this prayer today and thought I'd share it.

O God, bless us with discomfort
At easy answers and half truths and superficial relationships;
So that we may live deep within our hearts.

O God, bless us with anger
At injustice, oppression and the exploitation of people;
So that we may find the courage to work for justice, freedom and peace.

O God, bless us with tears to shed
For those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war;
So that we may reach our out hands to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.

O God, bless us with enough foolishness
To believe that we can make a difference in this world;
So that we risk doing what others claim cannot be done.

Amen
