For me, despite not being Catholic, it was Norte Dame in Paris and the interior of the Sagrada Familia. I especially felt I could feel God's presence in the latter. I'm just interested to hear about other places people have been spiritually moved, doesn't have to be Christian Smile

The Hermitage forest outside Assisi - sunshine and unexpected late snow. Quite extraordinary and somehow mystical.

vitalogy- I agree.
When I was a 10 year old I went to visit a steelworks.

It moved me deeply. The energy, the heat like Mars and Hephastious, the power was incredible.
We had been learning about volcanoes at school and I had found out the centre of the Earth is a fiery boiling mass of metal.

Another one for Chalice Well.
Up on the Mendip Hills at a spot called Deer Leap.

needyourlovingtouch · 31/07/2018 19:37

Ampleforth Abbey when the monks are singing is very peaceful.

Verbena87 · 31/07/2018 19:41

The high altitude lakes in Gokyo, Nepal. I’m not religious but I say there and thought “I could die this moment and be happy I’ve had enough beauty and peace to be a lifetime’s worth”

Vitalogy · 31/07/2018 19:59

speakout Sounds like a powerful place. The energy and vibration would go through you I should imagine.

I have had some of my most spiritually moving experiences right here at home.
There is always magic in the mundane.

Looking up into the sky and seeing 200 geese migrating in a huge V formation, watching a supermoon, or the first twinkle of frost on the grass as autumn begins. Watching plants burst forth or seedlings sprout.
Every day feels spiritual to me.

FloralBunting · 31/07/2018 21:22

In the spirit of the idea of being spiritually moved in the mundane, I think I had a deeply spiritual moment during a miscarriage, alone in a really bare hospital room, with a small, high up window through which I could see the clouds racing past at speed.
I was reminded of my smallness in the universe, and in the middle of my distress, felt completely content that the world just keeps on spinning.

Sant Antimo Abbey
The Basilica of St Francis of Assisi
Marseille Cathedral

All 3 places gave me an intense feeling of peace and love. There was an energy I can’t describe and I welled up with tears.

workshyfop · 31/07/2018 21:47

Durham, the cathedral especially
St Francis Basilica in Assisi

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/07/2018 22:00

Not a religious place per se, but I felt deeply moved at the main trench of the Terracotta Army in Xi’an, China. Something about the humanity of the individual statues, each representing a real person, waiting so patiently through the ages to be there to serve their Emperor in death...I felt a deep human connection to them all and was moved to tears. And it really seemed to be there, of that place, not something from within me.

Chalice Well Glastonbury, Glastonbury has a lovely vibe to it.

I'm an Atheist, but can feel moved inside a church.

I lost my daughter to cancer, nobody could have prayed as hard as I did during that time. When she died, such a gentle soul, my faith died with her.

Faz2015 · 29/08/2018 17:49

Lovely thread esp some of the discriptions.

For me... Mecca middle of the night when there aren’t that many people praying...

Snowdonia mountain.. overlooking the landscape especially with the clouds..

Faz2015 · 29/08/2018 17:51

@fireyginger I’m sorry for your loss.. I used to pray everyday ( born Muslim) but after my parents were killed in car accident, i couldn’t do it anymore... 💕💕💕

Frazzled2207 · 29/08/2018 17:57

A telegraph station not far from Alice springs. Long story but I thought I was stuck there for the night. Stars were incredible. Lights
Of Alice springs got me back, fortunately

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 29/08/2018 18:04

NRTFT so it may have been mentioned, but for me it was Auschwitz.

I’m not religious, although I have Jewish ancestory, but it really is what they say: the grave of literally millions. The air is somehow different there.... it’s haunting but beautiful too, you can feel the spirits of the dead around you almost hear their stories. I was very moved by it.

I also found the Basillica and Piazza San Marco, but also Venice in general, very spiritual. The Isola di San Michele has a very peaceful quality to it to and I spent hours there just sitting and looking.

MeganChips · 29/08/2018 18:13

Montserrat near Barcelona. It is obviously very religious but the beauty of the place really moved me.

I remember driving there early in the morning and the mountain materialising out of the mist and it was just beautiful.

onitlikeacarbonnet · 29/08/2018 18:23

Culloden.
Never had a feeling like it.
Not sure if it was spiritual or not. Just overwhelmingly oppressive and sad.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 30/08/2018 03:44

Before I read your post I thought 'Notre dame in Paris'.
I've been there twice and felt a sense of calmness both times however I'm most definitely atheist.

waltzingparrot · 02/10/2018 14:13

There's a room inside the peace museum in Caen. Moved me to tears. I sat outside and had a long conversation with God about it.

Lessstressedhemum · 02/10/2018 14:40

Caldey Island, in the Abbey Church, at the end of Compline, when all the Cistercian monks stand in the middle and sing the Salve Regina, with a single candle burning in front of an icon of the Madonna & child.
SPINE-TINGLING. 👼 👼👼

Alwayscheerful · 02/10/2018 15:05

Jerusalem.

The air was certainly different in Byron Bay, cannabis smell everywhere- just walking around left me feeling high!

Jason118 · 02/10/2018 21:32

Kent

notimaginingit · 02/10/2018 22:03

There was a headland on Rottnest Island WA, no road at the time, just a track. I cycled down it and stopped to rest and take in the beauty of the place.
The sun was shining on the water, there was not a sound to be heard other than the sea. I just felt as though I was being allowed to access ‘something’ for a few seconds. A kind of ‘we’re just going to give you a little glimpse’.

Conversely I’ve been in places I could not wait to get out of, but I know that’s not what you asked.
