Praying into 2016: a Christian prayer thread for the New Year

Happy New Year friends.

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

ALittleFaith - for good treatment for her anxiety; for better understanding from her boss; for the lovely Faithlet.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for her and her family.

Anjelica27 - for her DS, who has mental health problems, and for Anjelica and her family.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum. Praying for a peaceful and happy 2016.

Dontbesilly - for her dad, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for all who love and care for him; also for the medical team looking after him; for her DH's work situation; and for Don't's DDog who has a heart condition.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere. Thinking of her especially as the anniversary of the loss of her beloved Bob approaches, in particular after the recent death of her brother as well. May she know God's closeness to her in her grief.

EdithSimcox - for her to be able to find ways to support and nurture her faith; and for understanding from her DP.

FaithLoveandHope - for clarity about what she wants (and what God wants) for her future.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her to find comfort and joy in exploring her faith; also for a good recovery from heart surgery for her best friend's dad.

JugglingFromHereToThere - for her search for rewarding work, for health, and for comfort and strength for her and the rest of her family following the tragic death of her nephew.

Kaykat - following her divorce from an abusive ex; for happiness for her and for her DS.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit - for her to feel more at home and accepted by her church.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH; also for her DS going back to university after Christmas.

LightnessofBeing - for her new church, and for energy to cope with her punishing work schedule.

MadHairDay - for her health, especially in the cold, wet winter months which are always so hard on her lungs.

Pandora97 - as she starts a new job in a new town for the new year following difficult and stressful times relating to a court case in recent months.

passportmess (formerly known as QuietIsland) - for a colleague whose husband is very ill, and for a university friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

PatchworkTurtle - for healing in her relationship.

PositiveAttitude - for her DD1, who is depressed, to get the support she needs; for her DD3 and her DH to work through their relationship issues; for PA's DH to find work that makes him happier, for PA's DMum to continue to be happy in her (relatively) new care home and for PA's DDad to cope with her being there. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, to be happy and fulfilled in 2016.

QoF - for courage when she is feeling anxious.

ScouseQueen - for a full recovery from recent illness.

SESthebrave - for her DH, who has been working abroad, and for SES, juggling everything at home; for her DS to find ways of communicating, rather than lashing out, when he is frustrated; and for her to feel appreciated for the work she does at her church.

TheRealGracePoole - for her ministry to women in her area.

weegiemum - giving thanks for an improvement in her DD1's (borderline) anorexia; praying for weegiemum's own health and for the Master's course which she has undertaken.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, for 'old-timers' who haven't posted recently, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

A prayer of St Teresa of Avila

Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things pass away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Those who have God
Find they lack nothing;
God alone suffices. Amen

don't - awful comments from that doctor but well done your sister! How is your Dad today? It sounds like you and your family are doing a wonderful job caring for and supporting your Dad and it makes me wonder what is the norm in these circumstances if this idiot doctor is basing his judgement of you on his experiences.
tuo am so pleased to hear about dd's school.
oma praying for your choir and the choirleader
mhd am sorry to hear things are tough. I really hope that the conference has gone well and you have had the respite and support you need and that you continue to get that when back home.
Prayers for all.

passportmess · 04/02/2016 08:32

Nipping in - I haven't been on this computer as have been catching up with work and I'm signed in to Mumsnet on this one. Will read all posts in more detail later.

However from what I've seen briefly this morning:

Praying hard for Amber who is having her appointment first thing this morning.

Praying also for Dont's dear dad - goodness what a doctor, I can only hope that he learns from this and becomes a better doctor.

Praying for MHD and her health.

And for Dutchoma's choir practice and Tuo's dd.

x

amberlight · 04/02/2016 10:41

Thank you for prayers. It's not a return of the breast cancer Smile but it is a something weird. Multi-disciplinary team meeting next Tues to discuss what, and what to do about it. Genuinely baffled surgeon at the moment. But so relieved it's not BC back again. We'd exhausted most useful options for that.
Keeping everyone else in prayers x

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 04/02/2016 11:37

thank God for that amber.

praying that they will find out what it is.

passportmess · 04/02/2016 13:09

So pleased it's not breast cancer Amber and praying now for the team to find a good pathway for you and that the issue turns out to be simple. x

I hope you are having a nice cup of tea now.

I am attempting to put order on the house using Flylady...

Very sadly my colleague's husband died but they were together at the end at the hospice. xx

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 04/02/2016 15:04

i am off to get the unexploded bomb. maybe it is ticking, maybe it is currently stable, maybe it is a dud. who knows.

passport.. I never get past cleaning the sink.

Dutchoma · 04/02/2016 23:11

Choir was really good tonight; thank you for your prayers.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 05/02/2016 00:42

please pray for dd tomorrow with school issues.

Tuo · 05/02/2016 22:47

amber - so pleased it's not breast cancer. Praying for a swift explanation and for it to be something manageable.

Oma - hooray for a good choir practice.

BES - praying for DD. How did it go today?

Passport - sorry to hear about your colleague's DH, but glad that he was as comfortable as he could be at the end and that she was with him.

MHD - keeping on praying for your situation.

Praying tonight too for all those affected by civil war in Syria and the rest of the Middle East and for refugees and those who are persecuted all over the world.

Lord of all compassion
We pray for all of those caught up in the midst of tragedy or disaster.
For those who have lost life and those working to save life
For those who are worried for people they love
For those who will see their loved ones no longer
Lord Have Mercy.
For those in need of the peace that passes all understanding
For all who turn to you in the midst of turmoil
For those who cry out to you in fear and in love
Lord Have Mercy.
For those in confusion and those in despair
For those whose tears are yet to dry
For those in need of your unending love
Lord Have Mercy
Amen.

Bes Flowers

Amber- so pleased it's not a return but praying for clarity on what it is.

Thanks so much for all prayers. Conference was really great but painful. I know all will be well, in the end....just tough right now as we don't know what direction to take....

Love to all.Flowers

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 07/02/2016 09:43

i will need quite a bit of self restraint today not to swear when putting an alternative point of view across. it may mean a parting of the ways, even though I was only loosely attached skirting the edges anyway.

EdithSimcox · 07/02/2016 22:29

Hello everyone. I've been off MN for a while and I've missed this little community, though I've lurked now and again and thought of you all often.

Thank you so much Tuo and everyone else who has been thinking of me, and praying for me and DP. I'm glad to be back.

Niminy that's so exciting that you are actually leaving work, how are DH and the DC feeling about it all?

MHD so sorry to hear that things are difficult for your lovely DH, praying for you both, that whatever happens you find your path.

Don’t I have been following the ups and downs of your dad’s treatment and praying for you both often; you have such strength and hope and resilience, you are an inspiration.

Bes, lovely, I came across a pm you sent me around a year ago the other day. I don't know about you but things haven't moved on much my end! Never give up, eh? You cope with so much too - another inspiration!

Amberlight, what a relief, praying for answers and soon. I'm no longer nervous about being outed at work, sorry for being scaredy last year - it's a pretty atheist environment!

Oma, passport, PA, LoB, QofF, and anyone else I've missed (sorry) prayers for you all.

I'm trying to count my blessings and be hopeful all the time though it doesn't always come without considerable effort! This isn't a prayer, but was used as a reading at a service I went to last week, and I wanted to share it with you. It's a poem by Emily Dickinson.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -

I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.

Dutchoma · 07/02/2016 22:35

Edith it's lovely to see you here and hear your news. The poem is also very nice, I love Emily Dickinson's writing.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 08/02/2016 07:37

oh dear. feeling a little delicate. will do school run and return to bed.

Madhairday · 08/02/2016 15:04

Hope you feel better soon Bes Flowers

Edith it's lovely to hear from you ☺

Madhairday · 08/02/2016 15:04

That smiley is weird. Smile

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 10/02/2016 22:17

and has killed the thread

Tuo · 10/02/2016 23:37

'Aha', says the thread. 'I think that you will find that rumours of my demise have been exaggerated'!

It lives!

MHD - it's lovely to see you. I'm glad the conference was good, but sad that you're feeling so uncertain of your next steps. I've just posted something about how dust and ashes are not necessarily the end of the story, but can be formed and shaped into the building blocks of something new. Praying it's that way for you.

Edith - wonderful to have you back, too, and thank you for the Emily Dickinson. Praying for you and for your DP.

BES - how are you?

Also praying for Oma, for amber, and for everyone who visits this thread.

A prayer for Ash Wednesday

Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing that you have made
and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent:
create and make in us new and contrite hearts
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may receive from you, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 13/02/2016 17:46

endured two meltdowns today. he hates me apparently. especially as I am trying to make him own his own actions, evil person that I am. Grin

I was planning on getting a lot of house work done today.. I might have done if children did not need feeding and playing with and feeding some more and cuddled through meltdowns. and if there was not a back log of washing up and shopping to put away. hey ho. Blush

TealLove · 13/02/2016 19:46

May I ask that you pray for me please. I'm on self destruct at the moment and deeply sad. I have nowhere else to turn. Thank you x

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 13/02/2016 20:24

prayers for teal that you will find the God of all comfort surrounding you with his love and care.
