Praying into 2016: a Christian prayer thread for the New Year

Happy New Year friends.

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

ALittleFaith - for good treatment for her anxiety; for better understanding from her boss; for the lovely Faithlet.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for her and her family.

Anjelica27 - for her DS, who has mental health problems, and for Anjelica and her family.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum. Praying for a peaceful and happy 2016.

Dontbesilly - for her dad, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for all who love and care for him; also for the medical team looking after him; for her DH's work situation; and for Don't's DDog who has a heart condition.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere. Thinking of her especially as the anniversary of the loss of her beloved Bob approaches, in particular after the recent death of her brother as well. May she know God's closeness to her in her grief.

EdithSimcox - for her to be able to find ways to support and nurture her faith; and for understanding from her DP.

FaithLoveandHope - for clarity about what she wants (and what God wants) for her future.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her to find comfort and joy in exploring her faith; also for a good recovery from heart surgery for her best friend's dad.

JugglingFromHereToThere - for her search for rewarding work, for health, and for comfort and strength for her and the rest of her family following the tragic death of her nephew.

Kaykat - following her divorce from an abusive ex; for happiness for her and for her DS.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit - for her to feel more at home and accepted by her church.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH; also for her DS going back to university after Christmas.

LightnessofBeing - for her new church, and for energy to cope with her punishing work schedule.

MadHairDay - for her health, especially in the cold, wet winter months which are always so hard on her lungs.

Pandora97 - as she starts a new job in a new town for the new year following difficult and stressful times relating to a court case in recent months.

passportmess (formerly known as QuietIsland) - for a colleague whose husband is very ill, and for a university friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

PatchworkTurtle - for healing in her relationship.

PositiveAttitude - for her DD1, who is depressed, to get the support she needs; for her DD3 and her DH to work through their relationship issues; for PA's DH to find work that makes him happier, for PA's DMum to continue to be happy in her (relatively) new care home and for PA's DDad to cope with her being there. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, to be happy and fulfilled in 2016.

QoF - for courage when she is feeling anxious.

ScouseQueen - for a full recovery from recent illness.

SESthebrave - for her DH, who has been working abroad, and for SES, juggling everything at home; for her DS to find ways of communicating, rather than lashing out, when he is frustrated; and for her to feel appreciated for the work she does at her church.

TheRealGracePoole - for her ministry to women in her area.

weegiemum - giving thanks for an improvement in her DD1's (borderline) anorexia; praying for weegiemum's own health and for the Master's course which she has undertaken.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, for 'old-timers' who haven't posted recently, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

A prayer of St Teresa of Avila

Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things pass away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Those who have God
Find they lack nothing;
God alone suffices. Amen

Don't, loveliness... the beauty of this thread is that we are all (and that includes any lurkers... I know - well, OK, I suspect that you're out there) here for one another. We will never manage, in what we write here, to express fully the needs of all the others here, but by just by being here I feel that we are holding the thread up to God in its entirety.

I'm full of cold and a bit fed up (generically, not for any other reason than that I can't smell or taste anything and my head appears to weigh about 20 tons) so won't attempt a round-up now. Suffice to say I'm thinking of you all.

I will, however, give niminy a big wave. Lovely to see you and fantastic news about telling work and about preparing for the next stage. It's so exciting and I'm more proud of you than you can know.

hoping you feel better soon tuo.

ds was a lot quieter this evening. after school sports may have helped calm him down.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 16/01/2016 10:55

ok. so guess who is currently in a different city? And wil maybe turn up this afternoon?

I promised ds that his dad would come and get football boots with him as we had arranged to do something. ho hum.

passportmess · 16/01/2016 13:36

Don't worry Don't! I skip posts by accident too. I have also been known to post on the wrong thread! Sorry to hear that your DDad is down. I suspect he will have lows and then periods of more calm. Perhaps when he's finished the antibiotics.

My appointment is next Friday (I can see why they leave a gap - mammograms are best done when you are not so lumpy). I have calmed down although there is a residual level of anxiety floating in the background. I'm reading Ruby Wax on mindfulness at the moment and that is helping with controlling catastrophic thinking. Completely forgot that I've the dentist on Monday Grin so just going to get it all over and done with! I'm finding praying helpful too. thank you for the Flowers, Cake and Brew

Dutchoma you were entirely right about hospices - my colleague is finding the support so helpful and her dh is getting great care.

Niminy - well done and God Bless your ordination.

I hope everyone has a peaceful weekend. x

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 16/01/2016 18:23

3.45, 3.45

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 16/01/2016 22:41

It is the children who suffer. Ds was not impressed at only having time to go and buy boots. At least he got boots out of it. Dd got to sit in a shop and do not a lot at all. The I have to be the bad guy and tell them it is time to go home.

Tuo · 17/01/2016 22:48

Oh your poor DC, BES, and poor you too, because I know you'll have been the one dealing with the afte rmath. Praying that you have had a good Sunday and for a peaceful week ahead.

Also praying for Oma, that she's having a lovely time in Holland.

Passport - praying for you at the dentist tomorrow and obviously for the appointment on Friday, and for peace of mind in-between. Also for your colleague and her husband, thanking God for the support provided by the hospice.

Praying for niminy in these months leading up to her ordination.

And keeping prayers going for Don't and her dad, and all the family, at this difficult time.

I'm feeling much better today - the 'fog' of the cold suddenly lifted, which was lovely - and so is DD2, though she's still very stiff. Thank you for your prayers.

I've posted this Franciscan prayer on other threads, I know, but I think it bears posting again here:

May God bless you with discomfort,
At easy answers, half-truths,
And superficial relationships
So that you may live
Deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression,
And exploitation of people,
So that you may work for
Justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears,
To shed for those who suffer pain,
Rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand
To comfort them and
To turn their pain to joy

And may God bless you
With enough foolishness
To believe that you can
Make a difference in the world,
So that you can do
What others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness
To all our children and the poor.
Amen

Reading through (properly checking the dates, not relying on when I last posted as a guide ahem Blush) and praying for you all. Will be back later on x

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 18/01/2016 15:25

We all need extra prayers this week as Ds is majorly stressed over an initiative at school.

Dutchoma · 18/01/2016 15:44

Extra prayers coming your way

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 18/01/2016 22:11

oh and throw in dd crying for a coulple of hours over a lost homework sheet.

PositiveAttitude · 19/01/2016 07:20

Prayers for you BES, for DD and DS, too.

Praying through as I catch up.

I would like to share an answer to prayer - DD1 is still taking her antidepressants and is doing well. Last evening we sat and giggled together about something really silly, but I realised it was the first time we had done that for far too long.

Please pray for mum. She is in an absolutely lovely nursing home which would bankrupt the queen but we have been told she needs to be moved out into residential care because she does not need their level of care. All the residential homes I have phoned so far wont take her because she needs too much care. She seems to be slipping between 2 sets of rules!!

PositiveAttitude · 19/01/2016 07:22

Tuo I meant to say, I hope your DD is ok now. What a shock. DD4 is the worst for music in her ears and being in her own world! Sad

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 19/01/2016 14:55

off to get the children. it is always a worry as what I am going to get.

need to book a drs appointment for me probably. it is thursday before I get a chance. eek.

Madhairday · 19/01/2016 22:03

Tuo. ... poor dd2! I hope she is doing OK.

I will read through properly and pray. I have been internetless, I'll then busy. No excuse for not coming on an supporting and praying.

Things a bit up in air with our job atm. Trying to trust God.

Lungs a pain. But okish.

Hello baroque and momey!

Love to all. CakeFlowers

Madhairday · 19/01/2016 22:04

How are things with church, BES?

Tuo · 19/01/2016 23:43

Prayers for DS and DD, BES, and for you too.

Lovely to see you, PA, and thanking God for prayers answered for DD1. Praying her happiness continues to grow in the coming weeks. Also praying for your mum - for her to be in a place where she is well cared-for and happy. How is DD3? And how is your DH and his job? Please tell your DD4 about what happened to DD2 - not looking was the main problem, but not hearing and being distracted by loud music was a contributing factor.

MHD lovely to see you, but praying for your lungs and also for your job.

And prayers for all who visit the thread, whether posting or lurking. Thinking of Edith, niminy, Don't and her dad, Passport, Oma, Baroque and Momey. May you all feel God's reassuring love around you tonight and always.

dd has podiatry today but is missing out on a group coming into school. she is really disappointed.

she did get her homework done though. Smile

niminypiminy · 20/01/2016 10:54

Reading and praying.

Heavenly father, hold us close to you in our sorrows and in our joys, help us to know that you are with us in all that we do, and all that we have to bear. In Jesus's name we ask this, Amen.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 22/01/2016 07:11

last day of early start. ds was up at 6.12 eek.

PositiveAttitude · 22/01/2016 07:40

BES I could have done with your DS to wake me up this morning at that time!

I am off away for a long weekend today. very excited!! I so need this.

A lady is going to do an assessment on mum this morning to see if she can stay at the lovely nursing home, or whether they need to move her. It's complicated, but the home is perfect for mum, despite costing an absolute fortune. She has been deemed too well to be in this home, but none of the residential homes, which cost half the money, will take her because she needs too much care. Please pray that she gets what is right for her and that the finances are there for the best care for her. Thank you.

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 22/01/2016 07:44

have a lovely weekend

BlackeyedShepherdsbringsheep · 22/01/2016 07:46

ps, there is being woken up and there is being woken up with being jumped on. not sure you would fancey ds's method. he was not too bad today as he was quite quiet.

Dontbesilly · 22/01/2016 12:46

I haven't read through the posts yet so I won't post until then but thinking of you all and praying too. I am just rushing around today Blush

Just wanted to say that I am praying hard for Passport today. If I remember correctly today is the day she goes to hospital for her check up.

I have kept her in my thoughts and prayers this morning. Praying for strength and courage, the medical to work with her sympathetically and methodically, putting her mind at rest and for a positive outcome for her and her family. She was quite understandably worried about today and trying to remain positive so prayers for you Passport my lovely Flowers

As I said I am rushing around today so I will catch up with you all soon x

Dontbesilly · 22/01/2016 12:48

The medical team that should read duh me
