Praying into 2016: a Christian prayer thread for the New Year

Happy New Year friends.

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

ALittleFaith - for good treatment for her anxiety; for better understanding from her boss; for the lovely Faithlet.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for her and her family.

Anjelica27 - for her DS, who has mental health problems, and for Anjelica and her family.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum. Praying for a peaceful and happy 2016.

Dontbesilly - for her dad, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for all who love and care for him; also for the medical team looking after him; for her DH's work situation; and for Don't's DDog who has a heart condition.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere. Thinking of her especially as the anniversary of the loss of her beloved Bob approaches, in particular after the recent death of her brother as well. May she know God's closeness to her in her grief.

EdithSimcox - for her to be able to find ways to support and nurture her faith; and for understanding from her DP.

FaithLoveandHope - for clarity about what she wants (and what God wants) for her future.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her to find comfort and joy in exploring her faith; also for a good recovery from heart surgery for her best friend's dad.

JugglingFromHereToThere - for her search for rewarding work, for health, and for comfort and strength for her and the rest of her family following the tragic death of her nephew.

Kaykat - following her divorce from an abusive ex; for happiness for her and for her DS.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit - for her to feel more at home and accepted by her church.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH; also for her DS going back to university after Christmas.

LightnessofBeing - for her new church, and for energy to cope with her punishing work schedule.

MadHairDay - for her health, especially in the cold, wet winter months which are always so hard on her lungs.

Pandora97 - as she starts a new job in a new town for the new year following difficult and stressful times relating to a court case in recent months.

passportmess (formerly known as QuietIsland) - for a colleague whose husband is very ill, and for a university friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

PatchworkTurtle - for healing in her relationship.

PositiveAttitude - for her DD1, who is depressed, to get the support she needs; for her DD3 and her DH to work through their relationship issues; for PA's DH to find work that makes him happier, for PA's DMum to continue to be happy in her (relatively) new care home and for PA's DDad to cope with her being there. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, to be happy and fulfilled in 2016.

QoF - for courage when she is feeling anxious.

ScouseQueen - for a full recovery from recent illness.

SESthebrave - for her DH, who has been working abroad, and for SES, juggling everything at home; for her DS to find ways of communicating, rather than lashing out, when he is frustrated; and for her to feel appreciated for the work she does at her church.

TheRealGracePoole - for her ministry to women in her area.

weegiemum - giving thanks for an improvement in her DD1's (borderline) anorexia; praying for weegiemum's own health and for the Master's course which she has undertaken.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, for 'old-timers' who haven't posted recently, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

A prayer of St Teresa of Avila

Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things pass away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Those who have God
Find they lack nothing;
God alone suffices. Amen

Well done. Now don't overdo it with 5.5 more jobs.

amberlight · 30/04/2016 17:11

Praying for all, as I'm reading through.
Here, still no results after now nearly 7 weeks. But a good senior GP friend of mine says this is good news, really. I believe him. It probably means that the surgery was all the standard treatment that this will need.
Thank you to all who have prayed in the last few months. Much appreciated.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/04/2016 18:46

good news Amber.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/05/2016 18:16

please pray. I have lost an important component of dd's bed. I now have a half assembled bed in the living room taking up the space we need to sleep in. Running out of time before bed time.

Dontbesilly · 02/05/2016 19:34

Hello everyone.

Been reading through and realised that a post I thought I sent has not gone. I have had trouble with the WiFi and buffering type stuff with my phone indoors, along with the whole family on laptops and ipad too and somethings taking too long, don't happen.

Anyway I had a rather snooty letter from school. Avoiding the issues again, stating that this is the third time they have addressed them and how, in my view, they still, have not been addressed. They have cut and pasted several passages of text from various emails of mine and tried to say that I was contradicting myself. They then sent a very pretty, colour coded, abbreviated teachers progress sheet that means nothing to a mere parent. Apparently, it answers all my questions and tracks dd's performance over the last year. I have no clue what the abbreviations or colour codes mean and neither did a teacher (albeit from another school) I asked.

Anyway I showed my sister the exchange of emails and everything to date from school, asking for her opinion. Without me saying anything she picked up on what I had noticed and agreed with me. She has drafted the most wonderful letter in return.
Let's hope it does the trick.

I have a new sort of job. It's 14is more hours a week with an existing customer and I am really enjoying it. The extra money is very handy and so is the timing. I could never had even considered it when dad was here as he was the main priority but now I have this opportunity, it is great for me to keep busy and occupied while earning money. A lovely little gift from heaven, just what I needed. A prayer was certainly answered!!!

Hopefully you all had a fab long weekend and Bes, I hope you are getting on well with your new carpet cleaning machine of which I am very envious Blush

Anyway love to you all and continued prayers x

Dontbesilly · 02/05/2016 19:35

Prayers both bes and amber x

BlackeyedSusan · 02/05/2016 19:45

Prayers for finding bed component BES.

Excellent news on the job front Dont and hourray for your sister helping you to draft a letter to the school.

Pray for an 'old' MNter Baroquearoundtheclock as she will be very stiff and sore tomorrow. She has 'only' 'just' run the Milton Keynes marathon! In aid of Restored, a charity for victims of domestic violence.

Hey MHD, come back, none of your slinking young lady! Been praying for you. How are things? Can you share a bit more yet? How are you feeling? How is the job going? You, see, you have to come back to update us all.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/05/2016 14:48

Ok, I'm back. How are you all?

Sorry I dissapeared. It's been a challenging time. We might be moving in the next few months, dh's job has been reduced to half time and they are advertising it out next month so we can apply but have to find more work, around that we are applying for other jobs, but obv don't want to go :( It all feels so wrong, somehow. But I am trying to trust God in it all, and do have a measure of peace. we applied for one the other day which looks promising so any spare prayers much appreciated, esp for the dc who are v unsettled and worried, esp ds.

Around that, I've been busy writing and writing and with work and a million other things, but health been pretty ok, although was bad yesterday/today. Still pretty good though, for me.

I want to catch up on you all. You haven't been out of my prayers, I've just been shut away a little. please fill me in...

EdithSimcox · 03/05/2016 17:27

Hey MHD good to see you; you (and Dh and the DC) are often in my prayers. IME things often slot into place in unexpected ways, especially when an upheaval is on the cards. I hope and pray something comes along that is just right for you all.

dont great news on the job front, praying for the school situation.

amber that's good news too, so pleased.

Praying also for bes (slow down!), oma, tuo, PA and everyone else who visits this thread, or lurks.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2016 16:03

here we go. collecting dc, one of whom may notbe in the best of post school moods. we shall see.

wonders wher I left the shin pads

EdithSimcox · 06/05/2016 16:13

Phew. Thought I killed the thread. Hope it's as sunny and hot where you all are as it is here. ☀️

My DD1 will be a teenager tomorrow.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2016 17:59

hmm, and I thought it was my stinky armpits....

small volcanic explosion erupted just inside the front door.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/05/2016 18:14

oh god it is going to be a looonnnnnnnnngggg evening.

Dutchoma · 06/05/2016 18:29

Prayers BES

BlackeyedSusan · 07/05/2016 21:11

well, not much progress was made on the big tidy today. none but I have regained the progress from last weekend.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/05/2016 22:43

a rather a late attempt to put the bed together has worked now it is putting the drawers under the bed to store stuff. they have got to be sorted out though first.

amberlight · 08/05/2016 20:46

Finally got the results back. A tumour, but benign, say the specialist sarcoma unit. Very relieved. It may regrow after the surgery, but is not a nasty prospect otherwise. Thank you again for prayers. So it's back to the usual checkups for the breast cancer, but can be more relaxed about this one.
Extending prayer to all others as I'm reading through.

Tuo · 08/05/2016 22:09

Sorry that I've been so absent from the thread. I've been away a lot (part work, part pleasure) in April and was absolutely flattened by a flu-y bug for a week or so too. I'm getting back to normal now, but still coughing, and still trying to catch up with all the things I'm behind with. Still... resolving to post here more regularly, as it definitely helps!

MHD - it's lovely to see you; I'm praying for you and DH (and the kids) at this unsettling time - praying that a path opens up in front of you and feels like the right one for you and that any change isn't too upsetting for one and all.

amber - excellent news; I'm so pleased that it wasn't anything more scary, though sad that it took so long for them to get back to you.

Don't - I'm really pleased about the job; giving thanks for that, but praying for the school situation and also for all of you who are missing your dad currently - especially for your mum.

Edith - happy birthday to your DD1; my DD1 also has a birthday this week. Prayers for you and for the whole family.

A prayer of St Ignatius

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
my memory, my understanding,
and my entire will,
All I have and call my own.

You have given all to me.
To you, Lord, I return it.

Everything is yours; do with it what you will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
that is enough for me. Amen
