Praying into 2016: a Christian prayer thread for the New Year

Happy New Year friends.

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

ALittleFaith - for good treatment for her anxiety; for better understanding from her boss; for the lovely Faithlet.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for her and her family.

Anjelica27 - for her DS, who has mental health problems, and for Anjelica and her family.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum. Praying for a peaceful and happy 2016.

Dontbesilly - for her dad, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for all who love and care for him; also for the medical team looking after him; for her DH's work situation; and for Don't's DDog who has a heart condition.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere. Thinking of her especially as the anniversary of the loss of her beloved Bob approaches, in particular after the recent death of her brother as well. May she know God's closeness to her in her grief.

EdithSimcox - for her to be able to find ways to support and nurture her faith; and for understanding from her DP.

FaithLoveandHope - for clarity about what she wants (and what God wants) for her future.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her to find comfort and joy in exploring her faith; also for a good recovery from heart surgery for her best friend's dad.

JugglingFromHereToThere - for her search for rewarding work, for health, and for comfort and strength for her and the rest of her family following the tragic death of her nephew.

Kaykat - following her divorce from an abusive ex; for happiness for her and for her DS.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit - for her to feel more at home and accepted by her church.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH; also for her DS going back to university after Christmas.

LightnessofBeing - for her new church, and for energy to cope with her punishing work schedule.

MadHairDay - for her health, especially in the cold, wet winter months which are always so hard on her lungs.

Pandora97 - as she starts a new job in a new town for the new year following difficult and stressful times relating to a court case in recent months.

passportmess (formerly known as QuietIsland) - for a colleague whose husband is very ill, and for a university friend who has been diagnosed with cancer.

PatchworkTurtle - for healing in her relationship.

PositiveAttitude - for her DD1, who is depressed, to get the support she needs; for her DD3 and her DH to work through their relationship issues; for PA's DH to find work that makes him happier, for PA's DMum to continue to be happy in her (relatively) new care home and for PA's DDad to cope with her being there. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, to be happy and fulfilled in 2016.

QoF - for courage when she is feeling anxious.

ScouseQueen - for a full recovery from recent illness.

SESthebrave - for her DH, who has been working abroad, and for SES, juggling everything at home; for her DS to find ways of communicating, rather than lashing out, when he is frustrated; and for her to feel appreciated for the work she does at her church.

TheRealGracePoole - for her ministry to women in her area.

weegiemum - giving thanks for an improvement in her DD1's (borderline) anorexia; praying for weegiemum's own health and for the Master's course which she has undertaken.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, for 'old-timers' who haven't posted recently, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

A prayer of St Teresa of Avila

Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing frighten you.
All things pass away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Those who have God
Find they lack nothing;
God alone suffices. Amen

Maybe Drspouse there is somewhere you can sit in a bit of gentle sunshine and remember how important you are to God. You are worth so much more than a 'tiny prayerette', you have been quite poorly and you have been struggling through on little sleep and not feeling well. I am praying for you to a great God, Who loves you and I also pray that you will find a place of rest today where you can feel yourself the centre of God's attention and His love for you.

drspouse · 14/04/2016 09:09

Oh thank you! Not sure about sun today but I may go and look at the sea as we are close enough for a short day trip.

Dontbesilly · 14/04/2016 09:15

Prayers for passports friend, ethylb and Paula.

Mums keeping busy. She spent yesterday with her friend and her granddaughter aged 3 who is quite lively. She had mum playing Robin Hood in the garden and mum was Maid Marian. Apparently when the little girls grandad came home she declared 'ah here is Friar Tuck' and she informed mum that this was because he was fat the same as Friar Tuck. Mums friend rang me up to put my mind at rest about how mum was later on. Its still early days and dads birthday is in a few days so she is staying with us for the day and night of his birthday. Yesterday I was low so I tried to occupy myself and it is tough. It's also a wakeup call to me for the future too. You tend to put these things out of your mind but it's made me think about being widowed. It's early days for us so it's all new territory. I am going to mums house today to help her with some stuff that needs doing relating to dad and I am not looking forward to it. Yesterday I was pondering something and instinctively thought to ask dad his advice and realised that I couldn't, although I absolutely still can talk to him, it's just different types of communication now. Thought and prayer communication. I remind myself that each day is a day closer to seeing him again.

How is your friend doing passport. Can the doctors do anything for her to feed her? Dad had feeding tubes and machinery, they are unpleasant things. Sometimes they can cause stomach pains too which are quite nasty. Really hoping that she can get something to support her feeding and nutritional requirements. Flowers

How are you all doing x

Dontbesilly · 14/04/2016 09:17

Prayers too Drspouse. Hoping you are on the mend quickly and feel better soon Flowers enjoy your day!!

BlackeyedSusan · 14/04/2016 12:03

please pray I can find out why the computer is temperamental and crashing

ethelb · 14/04/2016 13:11

Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers. My MIL had her biopsy yesterday and the procedure went well, but they have found a number of blood clots on her lungs, potentially as a result of the growth in her leg.

These will need to be operated on at some point but we need to find out the results of the biopsy before any surgery is planned.

She is still in hospital receiving blood thinners and we are expecting her to be discharged tomorrow.

DH will spend a few days with her at home after that.

Thinking of you all too.

passportmess · 14/04/2016 16:35

Glad it went relatively well for your mil ethelb.

Hope the visit to your Mum goes well don't. I'm sure your Dad is never far from your thoughts. X

My friend has a feeding tube but is still quite sick with nausea. She went down hill quickly with this autoimmune disease. If the feeding tube works she may have 15 months left but if it doesn't then maybe 5 months. She is sleeping a lot. Thank you all for including her in your prayers.

QofF · 14/04/2016 20:58

ethel hope the results of the biopsy dont take too long to come through.
drspouse how are you feeling? There are some very nasty bugs out there at the moment

drspouse · 14/04/2016 21:19

ethelb · 15/04/2016 09:54

Sorry to hear that passport, thinking of your friend.

EdithSimcox · 15/04/2016 10:05

Don't how are you doing today? Have been thinking of you and praying. I'm so glad the service was so lovely, it's a great testament to your Dad, and well done with reading.

Praying for you too Ethel, for your MIL and for your DH, and for your friend passport.

Paula, good luck to your DD in the gala, and prayers for your DH’s friend. I'm big on prayers for marital discord, needing them so frequently myself!

Drspouse, I love looking at the sea, glad you made it, prayers for a speedy recovery.

Oma, QofF, how are you both? Always here praying for others… Flowers. And tuo, for you my friend too.

Bes, Bes, … So many things to cope with… I hate computers! Ok, not hate, but it sounds like you need Chocolate Cake Brew or Wine just as much a prayer…

Thinking also of MHD ... any news?

Dutchoma · 15/04/2016 11:27

Thank you for asking Edith. I am fine, a bit busy as I have had several visits and am expecting another one today. Some of you may remember CaptainDippy who was the one starting this prayer thread (or at least doing it when I joined). She is on her way to spend the weekend with me. Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 15/04/2016 20:33

waves to captain dippy...

still computer issues.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/04/2016 18:26

hoovered the furry coat off the back of the computer but still got overheating issues. I suspect there is an internal furry coat.

LittleBootsTheBabe · 16/04/2016 22:35

Hello, please could I ask for prayers for an acquaintance, for the best possible outcome this week and for healing and wholeness for her, her family & her life?

amberlight · 17/04/2016 19:07

Prayers for each situation as I'm reading through

SESthebrave · 17/04/2016 21:38

Oma - hope you had a lovely weekend with Captain Dippy

passportmess - praying for your friend

BES - hoping the internal fur isn't too great. Prayers for your computer.

LittleBootstheBabe - prayers for your aquaintance

ethelb - prayers for swift results for your MIL and for her and you all as you wait

dont - praying for you as you visit your mum and the date of your dad's birthday is close

It was lovely to see some old friends back at church this morning but sad as they are back because tomorrow is the funeral of a wonderfully inspirational lady that we all knew and loved. We mourn her but she was ready to be welcomed into heaven. She was a great lady of prayer and will leave a legacy of having encouraged so many in their prayer relationship.

Please can I also ask for prayers for our Best Man from our wedding 10yrs ago. He discovered a few weeks ago that his wife of 12 yrs was having an affair and she has now left him and their 2 DC :(

Finally please continued prayers for mine and DH's decision making in the coming weeks about whether I will cut back at work. We need a unified decision and although that may be possible, I'm not sure any option is an easy one!

Dutchoma · 18/04/2016 15:46

Dippy and I had a wonderful weekend. It went all too quick.

Praying for BES and SES and Littleboots" acquaintance.
How did your Sunday go this week drSpouse*?

Dontbesilly · 18/04/2016 18:15

Hello everyone. I have been reading through and praying for you all as I go along.

Ses - your poor best man and his dc. Hoping he is well supported and the dc too. What a shock for everyone. Hoping your decision making process goes well and you are all happy with the outcome.

Oma so glad to hear that you enjoyed your weekend. Time does fly when you are having fun.

We got through dad's birthday. Mum took my dh and dc out for a meal but I was unable to make it as I felt poorly. I have a tendency to be anaemic and tomorrow morning I am having an iron transfusion. I am so looking forward to it and I say this as a needle and hospital phobic person. I felt like I had flu, chest pain and awful joint and muscle pain. I just wanted to stay in bed or sit down. I will insist on the doctors keeping a closer eye on my blood tests and act a bit sooner when I start to go anaemic as the doctor said that it can affect my heart which was a worry as I can feel my heart banging away nearly all the time. This time tomorrow I shall have started the course of treatment and hopefully will be back to normal. On Saturday I couldn't even summon the energy to think about hoovering never mind do it. Shock

Passport - I have been thinking about your friend in the hospital. How are things with her and the feeding tube etc. Really praying for her. I know it's a different condition but it's reminding me of dad and his many feeding issues, tubes and machinery etc and just how weak and poorly he felt. Really hoping that they can sort out something for her. Also how is your friend doing who recently lost her husband? Is she coping ok? It's early days I know.

Did you get the Pc sorted out Bes? I wouldn't have a clue what was wrong with a Pc. You seem to be able to turn your hand to anything. Star

Can't believe it is three weeks since dad passed away and a week since the funeral. My lovely sil sent me a beautiful card about a daughter loosing her father and I had a little cry today. Mum got a little poem card for dads birthday and it mentions all the lost tomorrows and that got me. He was so young. 72 is young in today's world. He was fit and healthy and extremely active. He certainly didn't look his age. Life isn't fair sometimes and I can't change that.

PA - how are things with your dad and your mum's nursing home, any improvement? Has she managed to join in with the activities that were available?

Twee - how's things with your dc and the nursery school going? Really feel for you.

Better go and sort out the aftermath of teatime Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 18/04/2016 19:31

might need to take it to their dads for repair.

EdithSimcox · 18/04/2016 22:22

Reading, praying...
My poor mum seems to be getting a little worse each time I see her. Please pray for her and my Dad, thanks.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/04/2016 23:29

please pray. radiator in children room leaking. carpet sodden. still picking up stuff. children both in one bed. their bedding etc will need washing.

Newmamatobe · 18/04/2016 23:43

Hello ;-)

This thread warms my heart!

Here goes .... Honesty phew!

After a very traumatic 5 years of my life battling alcoholism - freedom from which was through a higher power that I choose to call God.. I am an unbelievably healthy woman blessed with a 10 week old DD and almost 2 years sober and free...

I really believe every single thing in His world happens for a reason and oh do I cherish the tiny pause moments of just breathing freely in my day and looking into MY daughters eyes...

I'm sure time will reveal with this that I would like to share but it's coming up while reading your thread so it feel right that I should...

My confidence in my faith is intermittent - it's like I don't TRULY believe I deserve this or something, I take everything I do apart piece by piece and criticise. I feel I'm only turning to God when it gets bad enough not respecting him by LIVING it? I sometimes feel sorry for DD that I'm her Mum ( the alcoholic one)... It's hard to relay my conflict but it's around belief I think, I'm scared to believe this is actually true and not some temporary good before the next bad??? Feel a bit of a fake with my faith too as I was kind of pushed into it for survival so it's convenient that I've adopted this way of thinking...

Have no idea how that sounds??
