The Yurt at Yule

glitterfairy · 24/11/2006 11:00

I thought I would start a winter yurt thread. So here is the yurt being decked with evergreens and alight with candles. A fire in the library is casting flickering shapes on Gothicmamas purple plush sofas and squishy beanbags and a low table is laid for tea.

Outside the forest is quiet and hung with drops of moisture and ready for the first snow to lay along the branches of the trees. The lake will be frozen in time for mid winter when we can go skating and the grasses of the prairie are rustling and frosted.

Happy Christmas to all yurt dwellers! Have a brilliant day and enjoy festive fun which seems to have been going strong here for about three days now.

Loads of love to you all you have kept me sane amidst the rubbish which has been handed out to me this year.Glitter!

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 27/12/2006 06:54

Hanging out with me is sure to send anyone sane Its been a real pleasure that the Yurt is here and still vibrant in its visions!

The children have been enjoying the chocolate bonbon tree, the tree is very saucy and loves to tease the children, moving a chocolate laden branch ever so slightly out of reach to squeals of excitment.

I went for a walk in the forest on Monday and it was a wonderful sight to see dd in her red suit running through the trees

glitterfairyonachristmastree · 28/12/2006 09:40

Am chilling today. Hvaing my nails done and my hair and a range of massages. Then a soak in the hot tub and a lazy walk down to the lake to see the children skating on the ice.

hinemoa · 28/12/2006 11:36

Today I sit at the foot of the Bong tree with my feet in a foot spa

(paps)

secretlywishIcouldknit · 28/12/2006 16:57

Today I have been sitting in front of a huge fire, enjoying the reflections of the fire on the snow, and making my resolutions for this new year. All the negativity in me is being fed to this fire, leaving me with just happy thoughts and some space in my brain for new, productive plans and schemes

hinemoa · 29/12/2006 09:08

Oh my feet feel fantastic after such a long hot soak! I am off to a leisurely foot massage, reflexiology treatment then paint job - something sparkly in gold I think. Then I will go lie in my enormous hammock - large enough for hammock guests to pop by for a mint julep and a cucumber sandwich.

Above me in the trees lies my tiger teacher who tickles me with his tail while he tells me and my guests stories akin to jungle book adventures.

glitterfairyonachristmastree · 29/12/2006 09:43

Oh paps what does your new name mean? It sounds vaguely womanish like hymen but am sure it isnt.

Am having as busy cleaning day in the yurt today ready for the New Year. Am clearing much of the festive evergreens and bringing in the bulbs I have been growing in the dark. Lily of the valley, hyacinths and daffodils will fill the yurt with scents and the children have made lanterns.

I notice that supplies of cakes are low so am making blueberry cakes, butterfly cakes and cranberry muffins. Alongside that I have a variety of cheeses which I bought in the market and some wonderful ham and suasage.

fortyplus · 29/12/2006 09:53

Mincepiedermama - I've heard the tales re: drinking reindeer wee! The substances in fly agaric that cause the hallucinations are not broken down by the body - so the Lapp village elders drink the reindeer wee, then those lower down the social order drink the elders' wee.

hinemoa · 29/12/2006 11:58

spidermama is a great wee drinker aren´t ya lassie

Here is the story of hinemoa so you find out more about my namechange!
The love story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai

Hinemoa is pronounced - Hin nay mo a - 4 syllables.

The butterfly cakes are fabulous and help me remember my other name !! Thanks for the food, it seems I was lolling about, on a liquid diet, with a hungry tiger above me. Am offering some to him now, but he say butterfly cake is abit light to keep him happy long, so after a quick nibble we are going to stretch our legs down at river where the salmon fly.

gothicsanta · 29/12/2006 17:12

Hi Just popping in to re-charge adn go skating hope you are all well

secretlywishIcouldknit · 29/12/2006 17:38

Paps - how is it possible for you to know so much about so many things and still have time to raise children, make superb food and have a life???

glitterfairyrenewed · 29/12/2006 17:47

Hi everyone just fortifying myself with cake and some sloe gin which the naughty elves have left behind. Had a great day skating and lighting lanterns in the woods to guide people around the lake in the darkness.

hinemoa · 30/12/2006 07:53

Midnight skating sounds fine, dd is excited and wants to try skating now. Is that 30% sloe gin Glitter??!! I am no good at skating and drinking, except here of course, then my skates take on a slightly swaying balanced effect.

So we go skating this morning then head up to the deck for a banquet lunch of roasted vegetables and white bean soup. While the children rest I help the dwarves in the garden.

FMF flattery will get you everywhere I am an imaginative bookworm with a flair and taste for paths less trodden.

glitterfairyrenewed · 30/12/2006 14:05

Ahhh the sloe gin is very good and sweet with a hint of bitterness and certainly more than 30% or at least the effect is!

Am in the library today planning the garden for next year and lazily flicking through some books on architecture. The fire is flickering and I am drawing stories in my mind and designing my years ahead.

Papillon · 02/01/2007 13:47

Lovely sleep, glad I took the long sleep revival tea, a cure to hangovers! Now I see groups of people being thoughtful in the new year... Voluntary Simplicity and Simple Living and happiness I will go join in after a breakfast of panetone and rooibos.

glitterfairyrenewed · 03/01/2007 17:20

Ahhhhh am here now and relaxing after long day which is going on and on and have headache in rl but here everything is so peaceful and calm. The deer are playing by the trees and the water sparkles on the lake. Tomorrow I am visiting all the sea people the mer people and the dolphins.

Papillon · 05/01/2007 21:17

The children are playing
they make no sound

arms flowing with the breeze as laughter spirals into the skies

blessings little m

in the forest there is a gathering of friends, who have come to sleep under the night sky, fires burning. The sparks crackle and dust flows with the breeze as smoke spirals into the skies

glitterfairyrenewed · 06/01/2007 18:04

For sleeping under the skies I have a goose down sleeping bag and a special fur cover made from the moulting fur of the gazoo. To untrained eyes it looks like mink but for me it is made without killing anything. (I like to be warm)

Your poem is beautiful paps by the way. Am cooking a vast and nourishing stew for the nights out as well.

Papillon · 09/01/2007 17:55

Hey Glitter

Am off tomorrow to SF for a week, then NZ for round 2 months.

And so it goes, my carpet flows
out the door
and into the sky

dd is soooo excited, as am I. Will be able to get online sometimes while there. So see you soon in an upside down position

xx

glitterfairyrenewed · 10/01/2007 09:29

Paps how wonderful no wonder you are all excited what about DH is he going too?

The yurt is quiet today and at peace with itself. It is a centre of meditation and relaxation and is filled with large squashy cushions and day beds. Calming bird song by real birds is being sung in the corner and we can hear the rush of the waterfall tumbling into the lake.

nearlythree · 10/01/2007 09:53

Can I lurk for a while?

(have a great time, Paps!)

majorstress · 11/01/2007 13:32

I need a new name. May I come in?

glitterfairyrenewed · 12/01/2007 07:43

Hi majorstress and nearlythere and welcome. The yurt hs a corner for lurkers with a screen made of silver filigree. Inside the corner is a tray of Pap's cookies, fresh juices and Glitter's cakes. There are books to read and a wonderful vista of the forest and lake glittering and inviting you to come out and post.

Papillon · 12/01/2007 22:58

Hi Glitterfairy

Me and the kids are travelling, in san francsico with my brother atm. No dh - he was not into it. Hard work with two, but they have been really brave. DD is quite homesick for home and daddy.

Take care

glitterfairyrenewed · 13/01/2007 11:57

Wow fantastic! Paps well done traveling with two babes on your own.

THe yurt is missing you and rather quiet. Have a fantastic time in the lands away Paps whilst I relax in the library and read a book or three.
