hi all,
glitterfairy I missed what work you do - what is it I am interested/nosey!!!

Re names for site I quite like c) spirituality and self - I like the self aspect,a s in taking time for..looking after...etc.

well just a quick message today need to jump in the shower, we are taking DS to fly his kite and for a hike near the beach, then fingers crossed the sun will stay out and back for a swim.

Sleep well everybody

gothicmama · 24/04/2004 21:40

glitterfairy · 24/04/2004 21:40

Hi sibble, I am a nurse by background, working with people with HIV/AIDs and in terminal care. I now run my own company doing consultancy and leadership development for healthcare workers. HOpe you dont miss this one!

juniper68 · 24/04/2004 21:55

Evening all,
sorry papillon, I just realised that I put afternoon before, silly me

glitterfairy, hope you get to the beach tomorrow. It's supposed to be fine here so after Church we may go to the seaside for a nice walk and fish and chips (oops I'm dieting)It is very calming by the sea, all those eons i think?

Oh sibble that sounds fabulous. I bet the views are lovely where u live. Hope your ds enjoys flying his kite. we only have a small one but I often make one from a carrier bag of all things when we get a windy day. The boys love it

Dh said she couldnt go it was too late but she was so excited and anyway reads until midnight sometimes that I caved in. Still cant remember staying up that late when I was 9!

juniper have you got us mixed up? Am a little confused bubblicious though great word

glitterfairy · 24/04/2004 22:34

you lucky thing I was tucked away in ballet and singing all morning with the ballet mufia

gothicmama · 24/04/2004 22:41

Yes it was nice am dreadingwhen dd is old enough for ballet the impression I have of ballet mums terrifies me

glitterfairy · 24/04/2004 23:29

Be afraid be very afraid gothicmama! But worst of all are the teachers who shout across the room so and sos mum you havent paid your bill! Mine never have the right hair or clothes but our bill is over £700 per term so I feel justified in shouting back. Mine all do competitions as well and even my son does it! Ballet mothers are even worse at festivals and do the most incredible things like shouting at their kids and threatening to samck them if they dont do well enough! It is a real eye opener and they all think Im mad as I just sit there reading!

sibble · 25/04/2004 03:23

glitterfairy - would be really interested too, I trained as a nurse as well, although it is many years since I have got my hands dirty, spent 4 years working with people with HIV/AIDS mostly doing drug research, burnt out so moved to gynae onc(!!) and spent 8 years setting up and running a research unit primarily focusing on screening for ovarian cancer. Also shared a business venture with a colleague running training days for healthcare workers. Am kind of in limbo since moving to NZ, am working as a study manager for a meningococcal B vaccine trial but only 15 hours/week until I decide what I really want to do. Would love to open my own complimentary therapy practice and concentrate on my reiki etc. It's jsut not very forthcoming.... Think there is a huge market in the business world with complimentary therapies, keeping people healthy. Although treating people with disease is obviously important I am a firm believer in shutting the gate before the horse has bolted and aiming for optimum health.
Anyway I have digressed and had better show willing and help DH in the garden. Too cold now for a swim so we are finishing some landscaping I have twisted his arm into doing.

papillon · 25/04/2004 09:42

Morning

Ballet sounds like it has taken a turn for the worse since my hey day of tights and bun wearing. I did Ballet for about 9 years in a small very non competitive town.
Did one summer school where I saw pressure Ballet for the first time... glad my Mum wasn´t like that and I still was in the front row on stage!! My one claim to fame

Sent an email to you Glitterfairy.

Sibble - I would be also interested in why the complementary medicine project that you would love to do isn´t forthcoming... especially since it is in NZ and I have often dreamed of doing something similar (hijacking my parents orchard and turning it into a healing centre )

Beautiful weather here today - so will be getting outside to enjoy as much as we can.

hi everyone. Have just been to the gym for an hour so am feeling good. Now off to work in garden with grumbling "you spend too long on the internet" dh! Wouldnt do ballet if I didnt get nagged by the kids and they love festivals which is worrying! Actually encouraging them not to compete against others but against their own personal best which is very hard for kids to understand. Sibble you sound like my doppleganger and am really concerned! I worked with a guy who practised reiki and my dh is a film maker and in the studios someone comes round twice a day to offer masssage and stuff free to all who work there. You might find a cool business who wanted you to do similar and wouold pay you a flat fee. They also ahve a cake trolley where he works, I have beer and crisps!

Snugs · 25/04/2004 16:17

Hi everyone. Just checking in whilst I drink my coffee before heading back out to the gardening (my back is killing me!)

Juniper ? Nature World looks great, glad you had a good day. Scarborough ? a place of glorious childhood memories. I spent my 2-week summer hols there, every year for 12 years or so. DH?s op was keyhole exploration and they removed a chunk of cartilage (this is actually getting a bit spooky now )

Papillon - beliefnet I have had a look occasionally, very interesting but I spend too much time on mumsnet as it is, can?t go looking at other sites as well!

glitterfairy · 25/04/2004 17:04

Hi Snugs hope you had a good day. Didnt really get into the garden apart from to sit in it but did do gym this morning and am about to go off for walk in park with the dog and my ipod! What a fab day the kids have been playing water fights with the neighbours all day and are all dressed in wet suits looking as though they are surfing gurus!DH is playing builder (apparently because the wall is dry and filling holes full of bricks) He is happy like kids mixing cement and chucking stuff at the walls whilst I pretend to be writing an article but really I am ....here!

juniper68 · 25/04/2004 18:11

Hi all,
glad to hear you're all enjoying the sun. It's been glorious here too. We've all been out to a folly in yorkshire but the kids weren't keen though as it's a bit spooky and has an underground chamber area. DS2 is a bit off colour so he wasn't in the mood. Glad it was DHs idea and not mine We all had a lovely lunch in a pub first though.

Snugs, maybe you're my mn twin after all! Your DH isn't older than u as well is he?

I'm glad i've got boys if ballet teachers go on like that. My DS1 goes to sportscoach and used to do stagecoach but gave that up. DS2 will probably do stagecoach as he loves singing and dancing. It doesn't seem very competitive though.

I'm not feeling very good at the mo as I've just fallen out with my mam. It was her fault though as she can be very selfish. I'd appologise if it were mine but I'm letting her stew for a bit.

I'm going to peruse the boards then go out in the sun again.

juniper68 · 25/04/2004 18:14

have a look at this
at the risk of being a link bore that's the folly we went to

glitterfairy · 25/04/2004 18:34

Where is it in the Dales Juniper? Looks good and I live in lancashire. Visit the Dales quite oftenas dh stepmother and my adopted mother (long story) lives in Litton in Littondale and that is where we met. I lived there for a year on her farm milking cows and making cheese we were trying to be self sufficient!

juniper68 · 25/04/2004 19:01

hi glitterfairy,
it's near Leyburn and Middleham in the yorkshire dales.
Did you enjoy farming? I used to date a farmer and remember getting up early mornings to help with milking and getting kicked by the heffers

glitterfairy · 25/04/2004 20:12

Was the best punk dairy maid in the dales! Used to re -train horses with white hair and black make up in a shite from Vivien Westwood who wasnt that famous then! Milking cows a nightmare by hand but can do it and make cheese and butter and also can plant crops and drive a cart so all in all a good experience. I was from an inner London COmp though and when I used to holiday back in London I used to almost kiss the milk bottles! And the milkman who thought I waS MAD.

sibble · 25/04/2004 21:05

hi Papillon
I think there are alot of potential reasons why things aren't taking off for me, some of them true reasons and some self made...
When we first arrived here, I advertised adn started offering reiki from home, part of the problem is that reiki is still relatively unheard of here compared to other therapies which are readily on offer (massage, reflexology, acupuncture etc) so there is also alot of competition. I know the way to boost business is to run free info sessions, offer free first sessions etc. then I got pregnant, had m/c and the fizz went out of me. I was then offered a job by my sisters friend as study manager p/t on a research project and thought why not.....
now I am torn between looking for premises to offer a host of therapies and rent rooms out (aim number 1) and tapping into the corporate market through occupational health depts eventually tying the 2 together...so am working on business plan, getting my head around it with a view to start next year as baby due in Aug....
so in a nutshell don't let go of your dream there is a market here, it's just doing the ground work to see what people want locally which differs and then building up slowly when the time is right. There is a huge gap in the market here for places with a creche, I am used to going to yoga classes, for a swim etc and dropping DS at the creche but can't find a centre like that here, so that's what I am looking at too, so women can come during the week (then I don't have to put in the evenings and weekends etc)....
so much to consider.....

anyway, have written what I want in my little book and will see what happens...have learnt not to be specific, spent a long time asking not to have to work, then it happened and I was bored to tears - a case of be careful of what you wish for it may come true - now ask to 'find my own business which I find fulfilling and is a balance with my home life'

catch you all later

glitterfairy · 25/04/2004 21:08

Sounds like a plan to me sibble! Have to say running your own business is great and very fulfilling but cash flow is a headache which can take away much of the fun!
