The Christian Prayer Thread Prays Again...

Welcome to our new prayer thread as winter turns (not quickly enough for some of us...) to spring 2015. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... ALittleFaith, especially for her dad, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, praying that his medication continues to keep him as well as possible for as long as possible;

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes;

... Anjelica27, as she tries to find ways to support her DS who has been self-harming;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for Operation Flat Tidy;

... BlueTinkerbell, for a problem-free pregnancy with DC4 and a happy outcome;

... CaulkheadUpNorth, who is struggling with MH problems which are affecting her faith, and by extension her job in a church environment; prayer for her access the support she needs, inside and outside the workplace, and for her to find her way back to God, in her own time, if need be;

... ChocolateTeacake, for work and financial worries; and for her health;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths , for her busy life as a single mum, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; praying for her relationship with her DD; and continuing to think of her in her life without her beloved Bob;

... FaithLoveandGrace, for her mental health as she undergoes painful, but hopefully helpful, counselling; for her relationship with her DSS; and for her work on her PhD;

... howtoapproachthis, for her health, following her diagnosis with CFS and for her to find support for herself and her DD;

... innerstrength100, for strength, hope and joy in her life as she rebuilds her life following the unexpected break-up of her relationship;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find continue to support her DS through this process; and praying that her ex is able to see how damaging his current behaviour is for his DS so that, in this at least, he is able to change his ways;

... MadHairDay, for her ongoing health issues and for the strength to deal with them;

... MaryBS, in the discernment and selection process for ordination to the priesthood;

... ninetynineonehundred, for her relationship with her DH from whom she is separated but with whom she is still living , praying for healing, trust, love and forgivement for them both;

... Pipbin, following the loss of a desperately-wanted pregnancy, praying for strength, for hope, and for lots of support;

... PositiveAttitude, for her studies, her work situation, and her role within her church; for her and her DH as they consider where their engagement with their faith will take them next; for her mum, who has dementia and her dad who has finally accepted he needs help, but finds it hard to accept it; for her DD1, who has been depressed; and for the whole family;

... RoomForALittleOne, for her health in her new pregnancy;

... QuestionofFaith, thanking God that her DH has found a new job, and praying that this will be the turning-point that he needs to overcome his depression and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and me, Tuo, for my DD2 who has been self-harming, but seems much happier at the moment - please pray for that to continue.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: Badvoc, BlessedAssurance, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, DeladionInch, EilisCitron, Gingercurl, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, LollipopViolet, MrsPixieMoo, niminypiminy, PandaG, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, weegiemum, Zing and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). We pray for our muslim sisters over in the tea-room, at a time when many feel afraid in a world which seems suspicious of their faith, praying for peace and understanding between all faiths. And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

sports stuff found. mum is going back on her promise to lay grass on part of the garden for the children to play on. she is panicking about hedges... after two years of me managing to keep them cut back and about cutting back a triffid giant shrub. this does not bode well.

weegiemum · 27/02/2015 16:57

Can't stop crying today (well, I have stopped as dc are home now!).

My lovely girl! How has this happened!

Dutchoma · 27/02/2015 17:30

She's lovely. Thank God she has been diagnosed and has a support team. You will come through this with the help of the Lord, who loves you all.

innerstrength100 · 27/02/2015 21:57

Bes are you feeling better today and more rested?

innerstrength100 · 27/02/2015 22:00

Tonight I mean. Sorry, hadn't read your earlier post.

Weegie praying for you.

Prayer for Lent: Day 10

Phew... feeling the effects of last night tonight and feeling droopy. This will be a quickie...

Weegie - your beautiful, beautiful DD. She looks lovely. I am asking God to keep her safe and to help her to open herself up to the support that's on offer, so that she is able to change her view of herself and get better. I know it may not feel like it now, but it is better that this has been diagnosed now when she's living at home and you are there to help and support her. I have seen young people diagnosed later, when they are already at college and living away from home, and I think it can be very hard for them to cope in those circumstances. Also asking God to be with you and the rest of the family as you support your DD. Praying your own health stays as well as it can, too, and that your mobility issues can be worked around.

Praying too for all of us with troubled teens: me, Kay, Anjelica and there are probably others too... for them to know happiness and grow into strong adults at peace with themselves.

BES - continuing to pray for calm in your life too.

Here's a lovely prayer for tonight, which I found on the SPCK 'Classic Prayers' page. I'm trying not to be distracted by the fact that Nicholas of Flue sounds a bit like a Harry Potter character to me...???

A Prayer of St Nicholas of Flue (1417-1487)

My Lord and my God,
remove far from me
whatever keeps me from you.

My Lord and my god
confer upon me
whatever enables me to reach you.

My Lord and my God
free me from self
and make me wholly yours. Amen

feeling a little more rested today. breakfast of crisp, and chocolates Blush whilst reading in bed may have helped.

I have tackled some of the maintenence jobs that need doing, laundry, washing up, tidying the worst of the toys tidying and sweeping part of the hall. washed some of the worst of the paintwork too. gone from mucky to slightly marked. I am aiming to improve the overall state not have one perfect area.

Anjelica27 · 28/02/2015 20:52

I'm sorry to put everyone together but not thinking very clearly at the moment so just want to say really praying for everyone, really do every night. U have all been so supportive and I can't thank u enough. Bit lost at the moment. Ds has gone walkabout again. Don't know how we got to this. I'm sorry. Only seem to post when I'm in despair but honestly I try and I pray for help and nobody is there.

Tuo · 28/02/2015 21:52

I know that's not what you meant, Anjelica, but I wanted to let you know that I am here, reading, and praying. I'm so sorry that your DS has gone AWOL again, and I hope and pray that he comes back safely and soon. Is he still taking his meds? Do you have any idea where he goes when he does this? I am going to be up for a bit (DD having a birthday sleepover; could be a late-ish night!) so will come back later and see if there's news. Meanwhile, I am asking God to be with you tonight, and with your DS, to give you both strength and inner peace and hope for the future. I wish there was more I could do, but I am holding your hand tonight, virtually at least.

Prayer for Lent, Day 11

I found this prayer by David Adam, author of a life of St Cuthbert, on the SPCK prayer page:

Only you, Lord,
Can make us whole,
Only you, Lord,
Can save our soul.
Keep us at dawning,
Keep us at morning,
Keep us at sunset,
Keep us in darkness.
When our way is hard,
Be you, Lord, our guard,
When the way is steep
Keep us, Lord, keep.
When we are ill,
Protect us, Lord, still.
Only you, Lord,
Can make us whole,
Only you, Lord,
Can save our soul. Amen

Thank u Tuo. What I was trying to say very badly was that I know everyone is going through their own things too and I'm sorry to put everyone together in my prayers. I tend to get a bit panicked. I hope your sleepover wasn't too stressful and u managed to get some rest. Ds came back but I have no idea where he goes. Says he just needed to get out. Trying to get him to understand if he stuck his head round the door to say just going for a walk or whatever I wouldn't panic and worry. Yes as far as I know he is taking his meds. Your prayers are a huge comfort and I pray constantly for guidance and strength that we can get through this. I mustn't lose sight of the progress ds has made, like the meds. Will add praying for patience too. I appreciate hearing from u and your help. Take care x

innerstrength100 · 01/03/2015 07:19

Morning Anjelica. Really glad he is back.

Hope today is calmer for you. Can you do anything nice for yourself today? Go out somewhere or see someone? Please please look after yourself, as well as your DS. Everyone needs a break, from WHATEVER they are dealing with; it will help keep you strong.

PunkrockerGirl · 01/03/2015 07:31

Oh gosh weegie how awful for you. Praying for you and your beautiful daughter.

So glad your ds is back, Anjelica

Praying for you all. Please can I ask you to pray for my db who will be undergoing major surgery for cancer on Tuesday. We lost both our parents to this horrible disease and I can't bear the thought of anything happening to him too.

howoapproachthis · 01/03/2015 07:38

dd is starting a childminder tomorrow - just a few hours a week. For settling in i will be taking her up for an hour each day, so i need a lot of energy. please pray for both of us especially that she settles in, she has been so clingy and difficult lately.

reading through all all the prayer requests and praying. so much for God to do. i have the thought that it is a joy for God to move on our behalf.

Anjelica27 · 01/03/2015 08:45

Weegie, your daughter is absolutely beautiful, praying for you both.
Hello again, punkrockergirl, can't imagine what you are going through at the moment. Praying for a successful outcome for your db and strength for you.
I remember first days at nursery and school etc howoapproachthis, I will be thinking of you and your dd tomorrow and praying that it goes smoothly.

It means so much to be able to come and chat here. I wouldn't be able in rl to tell anyone how awful things are at the moment, like last night there was just no one to tell and having you all there helps so much. Saying thank you isn't enough and I can't tell you how grateful I am.

Sending love and wishes for a peaceful day x

madhairday · 01/03/2015 08:46

Dear punkrocker, praying for your db and you at this time for peace as he goes through this and comfort for you both. Flowers

Weegie. I'm so sorry dear one. Your beautiful dd - praying for her and for you all. It must be a terrible shock for you.

Praying for Kaykat and anjelica also for their teenagers. It can be such a difficult time . Teenagers are under so much pressure now. 2 of my dear friends have teenagers with eating disorders and self harm issues and I'm praying for them now as I think about all these children as they struggle. Praying also for our preteens as they come up to this age, for niminys ds and for my ds too who seems depressed a lot at the moment.

Lord God please heal your children and send us your peace this day.

Praying for you all as I read through and thanks again to tuo for your lovely posts. How is your dd doing now?

BlackeyedSusan · 01/03/2015 11:02

off to church. we are very late. ds has had a mega meltdown about going. full on stamping screaming meltdown.

I need some advice re solutions later.

Bluetinkerbell · 01/03/2015 12:42

Well, today was the day... Graham Kendrick led our service this morning and it was really amazing. And obviously we finished with Shine Jesus Shine. DD1 was most excited Wink

FaithLoveandGrace · 01/03/2015 13:46

Have not read the full thread since I last commented but bes wow! You actually had Graham Kendrick leading your service, that's amazing!

Praying especially for weegie's DD, for squishing and everyone else on the Muslim tea room thread, for kay and her DS, anjelica and her DS and for anybody who's struggling or just needs prayer at the moment.

Thank you especially for tuo for your continued prayers on here throughout lent.

I went on a quiet day recently which was wonderful. It's amazing how no matter how varied our backgrounds are, we can all share in the love and fellowship of one another and of Christ, simply through our faith in him. I thank the Lord for that, not just for the quiet day but for all those times we come together because of him; in church, on retreat, at Chaplaincies and here on this thread.

Bluetinkerbell · 01/03/2015 18:13

Has anyone heard this one before? I hadn't and it moved me to tears... m.youtube.com/watch?v=MksPRx1Ky9I

Tuo · 02/03/2015 00:42

Hello all. Didn't make it to church today due to the aftermath of DD's sleepover - I was still making pancakes for them all for breakfast at the time when our service normally ends - no hope of getting there in time! Your service sounds fun, Tinkerbell, I'm glad it went well. Thank you for sharing that song.

I'm so glad your DS came back, Anjelica. Thank God for that. Praying for peace of mind for both of you today.

Praying for howto and for her DD this week as she starts with her childminder. Praying it all goes well and that you have the energy to cope with the settling-in period. My DDs loved their childminder like a member of the family, and were with her for nearly 10 years . Praying yours will be equally good.

Praying also for Punkrockergirl and for her brother this week; may God be with him and with the medical staff looking after him.

Praying for all the teens and pre-teens who are struggling and for their parents. It's such a difficult time for so many, and so hard, often, to know how to support them. Thank you for asking about my DD, MHD - she is doing well and seems happy. I have reservations about some of her friends, but I am trying not to be judgmental but to be as welcoming as possible so that she never feels that she can't bring her friends here or that she needs to hide from me what they are up to.

And adding prayers for BES and her DS. No advice, I'm afraid, but praying for support for you both.

Totally echo your thoughts re. the way in which God brings us together, FLaG. Smile

Prayer for Lent: Day 12

A famous one for tonight: a prayer of St Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon:
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope
where there is darkness, light
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen

Amen.

Just got over an infection and caught a rotten cold. Feel grotty as still weakened from infection and it's hitting my chest. really don't need this but feel powerless :(

Continuing to pray for you all and especially for all the children represented on this thread.

Blue, yay for GK! I didn't know that song, it sounds good. Glad you enjoyed it, did you get to tell him about his sainted status on MN? Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 02/03/2015 16:05

get well soon MHD

just been copying out dd's DLA form as it is less obvious than ds's and I will need to refer to it for renewal. It was surprising how much help she needs as it is our normal. one sort of does not notice htat you have to stop them walkingout at the crossing before the traffic has stopped etc, until someone helps with the form. quite frankly, I thought I was mollycoddling her but looking at her behaviour in light of the form it is obvious htat she needs it. she topples towards the road if not held/yelled at to keep in. she falls off the path at school. shee fell on the way to school. I have been comparing her to others her age and it is a revelation.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/03/2015 21:39

meeting dd's teacher tomorrow.

got a dr's appointment on weds and worried about it.

PunkrockerGirl · 02/03/2015 22:04

Hope the next 2 days go ok for you Susan
Thank you for the Lent prayers, Tuo

Tuo · 03/03/2015 00:04

Praying for your DB tomorrow, PunkrockerGirl. Hoping for good news.

Get well soon, MHD. Rotten luck to be ill again, but it has been a bad winter for it. Praying for a swift recovery.

And BES praying for your DD, for her to get the help she needs. It's clear you are an amazing mum to both your DC.
