A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

990 replies

Tuo · 30/10/2014 01:17

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

well, my two have been banished upstairs.... I need a coffee and a bit of peace... irritable... uh huh!

you probably need a stash of quiet no input from you activities. I find that computer games are a saviour to wind me down and to wind ds down and let me get on in peace. so much for my limiting screen tiome ideals... not killing the buggers (metaphorically) is a higher priority than limiting screen time.

anyway hoping dd finds something to amuse her.

try putting some toys away and rotating them so she has something fresh?

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 05/01/2015 17:01

I've had this nasty headache for 24 hrs now. I'm taking pain killers like they're going out of fashion. Please can you pray as I'm not sure how I'll cook dinner or prep their school bags at this rate. It's spreading down the back of my neck too :(

madhairday · 05/01/2015 19:26

Oh mome praying now, that sounds really horrible :(

QofF · 05/01/2015 19:56

Poor you Mome! Hope it is starting to improve. Praying for it to do so and howto am praying for energy.
Hope you enjoyed the Narnia exhibition Oma, sounds like a lovely way to pass the time. Praying for you, your dcs and family tonight.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 05/01/2015 20:15

Popping in very quickly to share this thought, which was part of one of the Northumbria Community readings for today:

'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' (Philippians 4. 13).

Praying that all on this thread may be upheld and strengthened by Christ in all they have to do... however hard it may seem to be.

well, today

Carmel206 · 06/01/2015 00:11

May I please share a favourite prayer that I have relied on at times of great need. It is for special intentions , Say this novena to St Jude 9 times a day for 9 days. Publish the prayer on completion to share with others.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised, adored, glorified, and worshiped throughout the world now and forever. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. St. Jude, help of the hopeless, pray for us. St. Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us.

I have found such comfort from this prayer over the years, I hope that it helps someone else also.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 06/01/2015 07:35

at one point in the night I woke up to find I could not turn over... then beame aware of a snuffling behind me .. thing is I did not know he had got into my bed.

Dutchoma · 06/01/2015 08:00

Thank you Carmel for sharing that prayer, it is so good to have all sorts or prayer on this thread.
And thank you Zing for your candle, Chris and I spent quite some time in Chester cathedral praying and there were candles there.

The Narnia exhibition was brilliant as were all the Christmas trees on show, we had such a lovely day. Today a visit to the cinema is planned, our minister said everybody should see Paddington.
So prayers for all of you who are going back to school to leave children there in more or less joyous mood. May Good bless you all.

FaithLoveandGrace · 06/01/2015 08:23

Just off to morning prayer. I too will light a candle for you Oma. Enjoy the cinema - I've heard paddington is very good.

QofF · 06/01/2015 09:31

definitely everyone should see Paddington Oma! We went the other day and all loved it (even dh who is a bit of a film snob and not a big fan of family films). Real feel good, cosy film and complete escapism for an hour and a half. So enjoy and God Bless you today.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 06/01/2015 10:13

dd is upset as her best friend has left. ds pushed her over and she banged her head. they got to school with pe kits water bottles and lunch.

Dutchoma · 06/01/2015 16:28

Paddington was brilliant.

madhairday · 06/01/2015 17:13

Praying for you today dear Oma

Mome how are you feeling today?

We loved Paddington too!

DC both back at school today, getting up a shock to the system and everyone a bit grumpy but was good to have space to get some work done today.

Blessings to you all.

innerstrength100 · 06/01/2015 17:21

Prayers for oma. Glad you enjoyed the film. Do hope you find some peaceful moments this evening.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 06/01/2015 19:00

glad you enjoyed paddington. have been praying on and off for a couple of days.

operation flat tidy:
living room: 15 mins laundry folding and putting away
landing/bedroom: 20 mins tidying and finding equipment
Kitchen: 5 mins tidying plus some of the day to day stuff
bathroom: cleaned out the dc's stinky bin. checking in the banana skins for the toys ds dropped in there. banana skins in the bedroom bin have been banned. far too much scope for little bits of toy needing to be fished out of the bin.

childrens room/hall yet to complete

DeladionInch · 06/01/2015 21:36

PP has namechanged Smile

Tuo · 06/01/2015 22:51

Oma thinking of you today. I hope you have felt supported and surrounded with our prayers. Lit a candle in the cathedral last night thinking of you and of Bob. I'm glad you enjoyed Paddington - we did too ... even the DDs who insisted that it was 'far too young' for them (never mind that I'm 47 and DH is 50 Grin!).

Hello Carmel and welcome. Do pop back and chat/pray at any time if you'd like to.

Momey is your headache better? Praying...

And praying for your DD, BES - hoping she has a better day tomorrow.

A prayer for Epiphany:

Creator of the heavens,
who led the Magi by a star
to worship the Christ-child:
guide and sustain us,
that we may find our journey’s end
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

goodnight.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 07/01/2015 07:50

Yes headache better. Thank you.

Struggling with my hormones at the mo. Wondering if it's linked. Just bought vast amounts of b6, evening primrose oil and red clover. Hoping it'll help. I'm only 36 but I have an awful lot of symptoms of the peri menopause. But as I understand it this can go on for 4-6 years, sometimes more. I'm hoping if this helps I'll start to feel a bit better overall as I'm struggling. It's amazing how much our hormones play a part. And also a bit rotten iyswim.

Time to get in the shower or I'll be late for school and work.

PositiveAttitude · 07/01/2015 07:55

Praying as I read through

howtoapproachthis · 07/01/2015 08:20
