A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

i know! i did say it's a bit of a selfish one, and it's been dry for the last couple of hours so i just want the status quo maintained rather than something drastic Wink

PositiveAttitude · 02/11/2014 17:45

I hope you live a long way away from me Purple cos definitely heavens are opened here!!!! I am as far south as you can get, by the way!

PurplePidjin · 02/11/2014 17:46

uh oh is it heading east??

BlackeyedSusan · 02/11/2014 18:21

JugglingFromHereToThere · 02/11/2014 19:27

Thanks for lovely prayers on thread Tuo and Oma. Those prayers from the Northumbria Community have meant so much to me this year.
Can I ask someone to pray for me as I go back to work with the children in pre-school tomorrow. And DC back to school after half-term.
Wishing everyone a good first Monday morning back tomorrow!
Possibly time for Downton first after I've got them all to bed?!
Half-term week has been good here, if a bit tiring. But definitely a nice change and some good experiences for all.
Hope it's been as good for you all x

PurplePidjin · 02/11/2014 19:42

must've skipped north if me, all safely under cover now Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 02/11/2014 21:25

great purple.

I need patience. I have the tribulation already... lots of patience is required.

Dutchoma · 02/11/2014 22:17

Giving thanks for PurplePidjin's answer to prayer, not being that many miles away for PA.
Praying for stamina fro BES and praying for all children going back to school after the half term holiday tomorrow.
A very old (5th Century) prayer

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord;
and by thy great mercy
defend us from all perils and dangers of this night;
for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ

JugglingFromHereToThere · 02/11/2014 22:22

Thanks, that's a lovely prayer Oma - and great to think how many people have prayed it over so many centuries Thanks

blackeyedsusie · 02/11/2014 22:25

Just checking who I am posting as

blackeyedsusie · 02/11/2014 22:27

Damn! Off to email mn hq...

mummyrunnerbean · 02/11/2014 23:22

Can I say hello? I've been on mumsnet for ages but just found this - it's so lovely seeing the Northumbria community prayers used! Smile I missed church today as have been trapped under a cluster feeding 14 week old. He screamed so much when I tried to take him off that even the ten minute drive to church seemed too much. So feeling a little guilty and a little bit under-Sundayed...

ZingOfSeven · 03/11/2014 00:15

Thanks all.

so glad for sunny day and varnished toy sorted! what a lovely present!Smile

Oma

yes, I think i know what you mean.
I find it ok to pray for others but even that hasn't been wholehearted. I'd start off meaning it, but invariably I'd get sort of discouraged and quickly finish it or just stop.
I keep wishing it was different, which I guess is sort of a prayer. I don't know.

I did go to church today More of a sense of duty than anything else, but I kind of felt like it too.
Weirdly enough (or unsurprisingly? Wink ) the preaching bit was about why we go to church. I needed to hear that and be reminded.

Last hymn was "Jerusalem the golden, with milk and honey blest" which is a really lovely song and, as always, it made me cry.
And somehow I felt like this "resistance" to pray got weakened, like a tiny chip on a windscreen, and I found myself asking God to heal me.
Not sure what I meant exactly. I'm sure He does.

And just now, reading this thread one of my favourite songs have come to mind.
I don't know if any if you know it, if only I could sing it to you!

"O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer,
when I call,
answer me.
O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer,

Come and listen to me"

it's very simple, but beautiful, both the tune & words. I keep singing it in my head.

blackeyedsusie · 03/11/2014 07:20

It is cold. Quite a change from Saturday when I felt really hot, too hot for a while.

back to school.

need to go to a course that I have lost the details for.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 03/11/2014 07:29

Hello mummyrunnerbean! Very welcome on here.

Hope the little one finally settled x

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 03/11/2014 07:36

Zing your post moved me. God is with you at this difficult time in so many ways, he's speaking to you dear one.

Need to get ready for school and work x

Dutchoma · 03/11/2014 09:43

Welcome to Mummyrunnerbean. Enjoy the cluster feeding. it won't last long and there are years of being able to go to church.
Zing glad you made it to church and felt blessed. You know, God is not scoring points for good behaviour, He loves you as you are, whatever you do and at all times.
Yes, I do know that chorus you posted, I think it may be part of the Taizé service, but also part of the church universal.

BES can you think when and where you last had it?
TUO has arrived after a 20 hour journey

blackeyedsusie · 03/11/2014 10:00

I last had it on the computer desk to email the person... the good news is that I found it, under the far side of dd's chair. I also found the pe kit that was unfindable last night, near to where I had been looking. [eyeroll]

blackeyedsusie · 03/11/2014 10:38

I am about to stomp off to the meeting we have for two hours. I hate going new places.

madhairday · 03/11/2014 19:28

Just jumping in to new thread to say hello - thanks so much tuo for starting it and for the lovely roundup. Have prayed as I read through for the different situations.

Bes I hope the meeting went well?

Waves to oma and everyone else. Been away over half term so just getting back in the swing.

Dutchoma · 03/11/2014 22:13

For evening prayer I lifted a bit, just a timy bit out of the Monday compline service used at the Northumbria community:

O Christ, Son of the living God,
may Your holy angels guard our sleep,
may they watch over us as we rest
and hover around our beds.

I will lay me down and take my rest. For it is Thou, Lord, only that makest us dwell in safety Ps4:8

blackeyedsusie · 03/11/2014 22:20

lovely.

meeting Ok. run by parents of children with asd/add. they have lived it. ex has decided he will come too and take half days so rush back to work in the afternoon.

I have bought more base layer, at a discounted price. I will be doing an impression of the mitchelin man some time soon.

PurplePidjin · 03/11/2014 22:30

Omaha i think your angels are scaring ds he just had a nightmare and it's taken nearly an hour to settle him Sad side light on and door open (cat will have a field day with that Hmm perhaps his angel would like to watch from outside his room and I'll make him/her a hot chocolate?

Dutchoma · 03/11/2014 22:35

The holy angels will watch unseen. Yo may attract the baddies with hot chocolate, but I must admit I have never tried it. Best of luck.
