A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

Hi tuo praying you may rest in the Lord this night, may you wake up feeling much more refreshed.

innerstrength100 · 21/12/2014 09:34

Hope you had a good rest Tuo.

Sorry to hear you felt so rough last night Faith , how are you feeling this morning?

FaithLoveandGrace · 21/12/2014 11:30

Morning inner and to anyone else who's lurking. I'm feeling much better this morning, thank you. Woke up feeling fairly anxious but that's mostly calmed down now.

Chocolateteacake · 21/12/2014 12:55

Hmmmmm. Had a bad night after hearing of the death of a friends neighbour (a young mum) and reading on here about a mum praying desperately for her teenage daughter until she died, listening to the news through the night about the cairns woman, police shooting in New York...

Its all just a drop on the ocean of the worldwide misery, isn't it?

JugglingFromHereToThere · 21/12/2014 13:12

Yes, it's sadly a very broken world isn't it Chocolate? Sad

Came across these words (posted by Mother Teresa on walls at the orphanage where she worked) ...

"The good you do today will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway"

Dutchoma · 21/12/2014 14:21

"The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it". John 1:5

QofF · 21/12/2014 19:38

Glad you are feeling better today Faith.
Praying for Room, for her pregnancy, that the service went well and that dd3 is on mend.
And Amen to that Oma

Prayer for Advent: Day 22 - 'The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it'

Borrowing the verse Oma quoted for today, and starting off by praying for Oma herself, in the knowledge that this Christmas will be a difficult one, not least because of the anniversary that follows it. May our lovely Oma, who so often buoys up all of us here through her prayers, be buoyed up by the love of those around her as well as by the love of God.

Praying also for FaithLoveandGrace - thanking God that you are feeling a little better today, FLG, and praying that you continue to feel happier, and stronger, and less likely to hurt yourself. May you find real-life support, as well as support on here, and may 2015 be a more positive year for you.

Praying for innerstrength - may you too find support in the people around you and joy in watching your DC preparing for Christmas; with each day that passes may you feel stronger and happier and more ready to face a future which is not the one you envisioned, but which will, I pray, be a good and happy one.

Keeping prayers going for MHD - may you stay well for Christmas - just a few more days! - and out of hospital.

Praying too for Juggling and her family - especially her DSis - as they face Christmas without a member of the family who ought still to be there.

And praying for Room - for a safe pregnancy and for a reduction in her sickness at this busy time.

Finally, praying for all those for whom the world is a dark place at the moment - those on this thread, those known to us, and those touched by the kinds of tragic events that make the news. May they see glimpses of light and may they know hope.

A prayer for the 4th Sunday in Advent:

God our Father,
the angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary
that she was to be the mother of your Son.
Though Mary was afraid,
she responded to your call with joy.
Help us, whom you call to serve you,
to share like her in your great work
of bringing to our world your love and healing.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
the light who is coming into the world.
Amen

got the dla forms. that will be fun. eek.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 22/12/2014 10:32

Not enjoying how my pmt these days seems to involve getting anxiety/ panic attacks. And my cycle is no longer regular.

Too much info. But it's not fun. I used to be like clockwork. I'm taking vitamins to help.

I haven't finished Christmas shopping yet either. I need to work out what I've bought and what I still need to. Dd off to her first sleep over today. My boiler should be fixed by tonight.

So apart from my crazy hormones all is ok but busy here. No more work this year either!

What's a dla form BES? Why do you need to complete it?

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 11:01

disability living benefits form. for ds.

I get horrendous pmt, but not every month. august has probably gone down in the annuls of history... a small nuclear explosion was witnessed over the wmids. unfortunately it coincided with the return from holiday and not enough sleep as I was so tanked up on caffieine trying to drive home.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 22/12/2014 12:53

Beautiful prayer Tuo with thoughts very similar to those shared in a Salvation Army carol concert I went to with friends last night - of being called to bring light (love and healing) to a dark and often troubled world.
I will be needing to try to do some of that when I visit family during the week after Christmas.

Please pray that with grace we will all be able to go beyond "facing Christmas" (hard though it will be) to celebrating it too (your very kind words got me thinking Tuo) - including being thankful for those of our family and friends with whom we can share it, for lengthening days after the solstice towards spring and summer, for rest from work and time for relaxation, for some Christmas telly & maybe a Christmas afternoon walk, for Christmassy food and drink, for exchanging of some thoughtful pressies given with love.

Blessings to you all through approaching Christmas week x

MadHairChristmasEveryone · 22/12/2014 13:00

If you need any support with the DLA forms BES let me know, happy to help - have been through it all, they are horrendous :(

Praying especially for Room today and continuing to pray for innerstrength

Joining my prayers with Tuo for Oma this Christmas - Oma may it be a time where you experience light in the darkness, love and hope.

Was thrilled yesterday with our community christmas celebration in the local school hall - lots of people came along, it was great fun and just had a buzz. Lots of good things happening lately in our ministry here - taken long enough to get to this place but feels good at the moment. Thanks for prayers re keeping out of hospital, I'm doing really well for this time of year, still ahve to pace myself a lot and not do too much like I did yesterday but am coping well. :)

Prayers for you all, and love

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 14:15

we have a lady from cerebra going through it with us and filling it in. I do need to think about what evidence we will need to put on it though.

operation tidy flat has commenced. I have been doing a littl ein everyroom as it isi so overwhelming.
kitchen:washed some toys from the charity shop. put some washing up away and some shopping away.

hall: emptied bag of stuff. yet to complete a full ten minutes in here
bathroom: washed basin picked up washing put onto wash. picked up some of the rubbish that ds has scattered.
living room: hung some of the washing on hangers and put in wardrobe.
childrensroom: put said washing away and sorted out bits and bobs in the wardrobe so they fit away properly. picked up and put away some cuddlytoys and books.

brief stop for lunch and then off to go round the last rooms to finish off, then start going round the rooms again.

Dutchoma · 22/12/2014 14:48

I'm glad you are having some help with the dla forms BES. They are an absolute pig to fill in. There is not much 'evidence' to deliver wither: "ds is in my bed most nights and I don't get any sleep". How do you 'prove' that?
I hope you get all the tidying finished before ds scatters it all again.
Will you be able to buy some help in once you get the dla?

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 15:05

don't know about buying in help. may make life feel less stressed though.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 15:05

probably replace the things he breaks

JugglingFromHereToThere · 22/12/2014 15:11

Here I got the dc to write a few cards to dh's parents and sibs, along with very small token pressies. This has seemingly taken all day apart from dropping ds in town to get a pressie for his Dad, & getting some petrol.
So sympathies for you bes and anyone else slowly working through their pre-Christmas to do list x

FaithLoveandGrace · 22/12/2014 16:39

Will catch up with thread later but has anyone seen this:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-30580114

6 people are feared dead and several more injured after a bin lorry lost control and ploughed into Christmas shoppers in Glasgow earlier today. Absolutely tragic news, especially at this time of year :( Thoughts and prayers with all killed / injured and their families!

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 17:59

been praying already. horrendous. two awful accidents at the festive season.

looking for the christmas stockings. please pray. going to fight my way into another cupboard which is slightly easier than figting my way into the wardrobe which is still railess.

kitchen: tidied more floor. washed up.
hall/landing: picked up some of the rubbish ds scattered.
childrens bedroom: dd has boxed up some of the conkers to take to school. tidied more books and teddies.
my bedroom: spent an hour or so finding presents, collecting the scattered rubbish and shopping, putting shopping away, searching for christmas stuff. my bedroom is currently out of bounds but there is a huge pile of detritus in the doorway preventing all but the long legged getting in.

innerstrength100 · 22/12/2014 21:21

Praying for peaceful hearts for all of you. Madhair do take it easy.

Have managed better in the past two days to give time, time, and block the lovely memories that bring such grief. Have had a positive day, although did burst into tears half way round sainsburys. It's like a tidal wave that suddenly hits me without warning sometimes.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 22/12/2014 21:45

ah yes. done my fair share of crying in asda. glad that it was more positive today. don't get worried though if you are all up and down for a while. it is a general trend of climate not a daily forecast.

i found the stockings so that santa can fill them up.

I emptied the wardrobe of clothes. some went in the airing cupboard but there is also a massive mountain on my bed. wood is found. drill bits are on the stairs. saw, screwdriver, screws and small drill bit needed. and some oomph. oomph is lacking at the moment as I haveworked hard on tidying up the bedroom, not that anyone else would notice but it is not as bad as it was other than the fact that you can hardly see my bed. tomorrow is packing and going to granny's house. possibly tidying up the hall enough to get the packed stuff in the hall.

cloutiedumpling · 22/12/2014 21:53

Praying for all who were involved in the incident at George Square, Glasgow today.

QofF · 22/12/2014 21:59

Praying for those involved in the Glasgow crash, so sad.
