So glad to hear he's doing better. Keeping him and you in my thoughts.

xx

Glad to hear the news.

Whenever my kids were in hospital I always appreciated nice toiletries, especially moisturisers and hand cream. Lots of hospital concourses seem to have the infamous Costas Coffee on them now so maybe a Costas voucher?

MelodyBaker · 15/03/2013 16:50

What wonderful news Smile

Things useful to me on dull, monotonous, sleepless hospital stays:

1.cheery texts with news of the outside world
2.knowing what's round the corner, I mean the literal corner. Being able to get off the ward for half an hour is a sanity saver - so, get onto google maps and find out five places - small supermarket/coffee shops/charity shops/parks/hairdresser/nail place/swimming pool/anywhere your friend might enjoy. All within a brisk 10 min walk where she could kill half an hour and get back quickly if she feels the fear.
3.a playlist to download onto ipod of songs which will make her smile?

  1. lip salve
  2. healthy juice/food (Seriously, why do canteens only sell indigestion starting, artery blocking meals?)and some chocolates/one or two of those tiny bottles of wine/something indulgent.
  3. something she can share with her wee one, a new book to read, finger paints and a job lot of plain cards to decorate, jelly to mess about in, cornflour and food colouring and a big Tupperware box to make gloop (messy play in a hospital is to be encouraged) hand puppets - things to help her be an animated, capable mum when she doesn't much feel like one.

Anything that reminds you that you are not alone, that folk care and that there's a world outside the weird time zone that exists in hospital.

You are a lovely friend.

Something nice to smell so that she feels pampered and hospital smells fade away. A l'Occitane handcream?

We're all cheering for him in the Puddle xxx

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/03/2013 17:36

Hoping his Little Hug got to him today

Big hugs for big people, small gentle ones for small people X

ChaosTrulyReigns · 15/03/2013 19:33

Oh, I saw that Little Hug, Pistey, it's truly gorgeous. You lot are such Satrs.

I second hand cream, magazines, or books that are easily putdownable, these Cheerio books were great when mine were tiny.

Our local hopsital has a Costa but it doesn't take Costa cards, so they might not take vouchers? you could send some naice coffee sachets - there's normally facilities on the ward, but quite basic supplies.

if there are older siblings to visit, perhaps some sticker books or an aquadraw to occupy them?

I wish him a speedy healthy homeward journey. x

girlsyearapart · 15/03/2013 20:33

Hope he continues to recover well Olivia.

If you and she both have iPhones or other smart phones you could start a game of Scramble with friends. It got me through lots of bleak nights in hospital with the dcs who had to stay in. It's a free app a bit like scrabble

MmeLindor · 15/03/2013 20:40

Hope he continues to improve, Olivia.

Keeping fingers and toes crossed.

PacificDogwood · 15/03/2013 22:20

Oh, lovely, more good news today Smile.

I hope he and his mum will enjoy each other's and the Woolly Hugs x.

Thumbwitch · 16/03/2013 11:18

Hope he's still improving Olivia. x

LadyBeagleEyes · 16/03/2013 11:32

Just wow to you littlehug blanket makers out there.
You are truly amazing.

TheYamiOfYawn · 16/03/2013 11:41

When my godson was very ill in hospital I sent little parcels every couple of days so that there would be a small stream of nice things: graze boxes, nice chocolate, nicely-scented toiletries, a lucky pebble, some worry dolls, a couple of easy reading books carefully vetted for sad child-related storylines.

I also tested daily.

Thinking of him and his family.

OliviaMumsnet · 16/03/2013 13:46

Graze boxes already en route -
Think he is still doing well
