I thought seeing as our other thread has gone somewhere into the oblivion that is old MN pages, I would start us up again anew for a new term. This is a place for those who are Christians (and anyone who's not, we're not an exclusive little club) Grin to chat about life, theology, church, any other stuff and of course Graham Kendrick, as nickel would not forgive me if I forgot to mention him Grin

So all welcome, old and new, it would be fun to chat and chew over anything that comes to mind. Lurkers say hello!

Anyone got a nice juicy topic to get the ball rolling then? Or if not come say hi anyway and tell us how you are doing. :)

GinandJag · 21/01/2013 18:36

Thanks :)

Hmm, Graham Kendrick... A bit last century? I do like Servant King, but SJS used to be a bit overdone.

Tuo · 21/01/2013 19:37

Welcome G&J. This is a safe and hijack-free zone, where we can discuss things in a supportive way, or as is more often the case just witter [win k].

Tell us about yourself... It's great to have so many new people joining us.

Tuo · 21/01/2013 19:38

Wink, not [win k], obviously! Blush

GinandJag · 21/01/2013 19:39

Not sure if it safe to admit this but I go to a church which is in the evangelical wing of the CofE. Phew!

MaryBS · 21/01/2013 19:54

Better out than in, ginandjag :o

Dutchoma · 21/01/2013 20:18

Pedro has hijacked another thread...on churchwardens. Go help the OP Mary, you should know.

Tuo · 21/01/2013 20:25

Grin Mary!

All are welcome, Gin, and there are those of all persuasions here, so you'll fit right in. (I think I said on t'other thread that I am a liberal Anglican with bells 'n' smells tendencies, but people don't hold my love of incense against me!)

Tuo · 21/01/2013 20:26

That also needed to come with a Wink, btw!

GinandJag · 21/01/2013 20:26

We need to introduce Pedro to the wonders of Google and Wikipedia Grin

niminypiminy · 21/01/2013 20:43

Or we could all gang up and sing Shine Jesus Shine -- that'll larn him or her Wink again.

Great to have so many new people. Wouldn't it be great to have a Cool choirs... meet up one day?

Dutchoma · 21/01/2013 20:48

OOOH yes, that would be lovely. It's such a long time ago that we had a meet-up.
We could invite Pedro Wink

Tuo · 21/01/2013 20:50

GrinGrin @ death by SJS!

GinandJag · 21/01/2013 20:52

Oh no, not SJS!

How about, "Father God I wonder how I managed to exist without the knowledge of your parenthood and your loving care".

That is from the SJS era, and would be very apt. :)

Bluetinkerbell · 21/01/2013 21:06

I never made it to the previous meet up! Definitely up for that! :)

nickelbabe · 21/01/2013 21:32

welcome italiangreyhound and ginandjag :)

one each then - a charismatic and a normal Grin

to the newbies- this thread is definitely not aboyt debating the existence of god - it's just chat about life based on our mutual standpoint that we're all christians :)

just general chat, support and friendship. with a bit of comparison of worship styles.

nickelbabe · 21/01/2013 21:34

and yes SJSis shit.

we also have a long running gk theme based on some of us loving him and some hating

MadHairDay · 21/01/2013 21:37

pmsl at death by SJS, nickel would defo go with that one. And yes Gin, GK is so last century Grin

Now you're talking. I was brought up on Saint Ishmael and have loved introducing my dc to his stuff as well. Father God somewhat overdone though - we always loved his scripture praise party stuff

OP posts:
KayHarker · 21/01/2013 21:40

Father God I wonder is so minor key depressing, though. At least SJS is peppy. Although there's nothing to say peppy is always appropriate. My pet hate is Come, Now is the Time to Woooooorship.

newlark · 21/01/2013 21:47

Welcome Gin - I also go to an evangelical CofE church - initially by chance - we moved into the parish and I didn't know there was that much difference between different CofE churches but I love it and my faith and relationship with God have come alive over the last few years I've been there. This thread has been a safe haven amidst the fierce debates (with just a little gentle teasing now and then Grin!)

I've just discovered Ishmael - I saw a box set of 4CDs on special offere over New Year and bought them for the children me

niminypiminy · 21/01/2013 21:49

Oh, I hate that one, too, Kay

MadHairDay · 21/01/2013 21:50

My pet hate is 'open the eyes of my heart'

Grin
OP posts:
KayHarker · 21/01/2013 21:51

Grin I feel I have arrived...

niminypiminy · 21/01/2013 22:14

Not that I am spending any time messing around on the internet while trying to write something for the DDO that should have been done days ago or anything ... but I thought you might like this, being as it's on the subject of music Smile.

GingerCurl · 21/01/2013 22:17

Why is it that there appears always to be someone in church who can't modulate their voice and seem compelled to always SHOUT sing at the top of their voice? And why are they never the ones whose voices you don't mind listening to?

GinandJag · 21/01/2013 22:25

Shout to the Lord?
